No Go For Rodeo, Say The Chinese
2nd Sep 2011, by AnimalCare

The Chinese people....you don't know what to say about them....they are known to eat practically anything and everything (earthworms, rhinoceros horns, deer penises), they wax puppies and kittens as delicacies; you name it, they have probably done it. Or, is it because their population is so large that it is due to the law of probability that the Chinese people would have done anything and everything?BUT, lately, animal advocacy has been surfacing in China, which is good. We hear of Chinese anim...

One-Week Fosterer Needed For Pepsi And Cola
1st Sep 2011, by AnimalCare

Pepsi and Cola was rescued by someone who had to return overseas, so Sudhamma offered to foster them while we help look for adopters.  But next week, Sudhamma, who is a primary school teacher, has been assigned to attend a course for 5 days (out of town), so she needs a fosterer to look after Pepsi and Cola.Pepsi and Cola have no more diarrhoea, and I have advised Sudhamma to get them dewormed by a vet (if the vet thinks they are fit to be dewormed). Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/06/mone y-is-yours-but-resources-belong-to.htmlI have posted this article (above) before, but today seems a good time to re-post it again, especially in light of my conversation recently with a very skilful and compassionate vet in the Klang Valley.I spoke to this vet and asked if he would consider offering a rescue rate for spay-neuter so that we could provide a panel vet in his area. I like his style because he would not give up easily on any animal a...

Agnes just texted to say that Snowy passed away this morning. He drank a lot of glucose water by himself this morning, too, before he passed on.  The X-Ray was scheduled this morning, but maybe Snowy decided it was time to let go and move on to a better place. We wish Snowy a good journey to his next destination, and may he be reborn in a happier state of being. Our deepest condolences go to Agnes and Maria.  Agnes has done her very best to make Snowy's last days comfortable and sh...

Peggy Tiong's Successful Catch
31st Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Tontee is the "cool cat" who was caught earlier on but found to be pregnant. She has since delivered, and Peggy Tiong was at her wit's end, trying to catch her again for spaying. Finally, after 4 hours of unsuccessful attempts two evenings ago, the cool one was caught the next morning. Our vets were all closed for the holidays, so I told Peggy to try this newly-opened vet in Jalan Kinrara 5A/3B.  Here's Tontee, all done and ready to go home.I followed Peggy to collect Tontee as th...

My Personal Bodyguard
31st Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I've always had this dream (and it is likely to remain so) of having a big tiger (yes, those real orange-coloured ones that you find in the jungles of Malaysia) as a pet. One whom I could take for walks without a leash and who would walk beside me, and I won't even have to lock the doors at night because my pet tiger would be on guard. But...of course, that isn't possible in this lifetime since I have no plans of migrating to live in the jungle.Little did I know I actually already have a sm...

The Middening Has Stopped...for Now
31st Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Updates from my cousin regarding her middening cat, Yevaud:No, it's definitely not diarrhoea. Anyway, I would like to report – with cautious optimism – that the middening has stopped. Not sure what we did "right" but Alina and I have been making a fuss over Yevaud (petting and cuddling him) to make him feel special. I also got up especially early the day before to "check on" the cattery to help defuse the tension. Time will tell if this works out in the long run. If not, we may have to ...
