No Kill Advocacy Centre 30th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
The chairman of Selangor's SPCA shared this with me: http://www.nokilladvocacycenter.org/We've always advocated the No-Kill Policy. We do not condone euthanasia but instead, provide palliative care for terminal animals. We do not spay pregnant animals. We do not support capture-and-kill and that is why I pulled our support out of the petition initiated by the SPCA as proposals No. 2 and No. 3 was "to euthanise in humane ways" - we cannot support that, so I asked that our logo be remove...

The Story Of Difficult (challenging?) Humans 30th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
I once gave a talk on "Dealing with Difficult Humans" and was told by a member of the audience that in the first place, perhaps we should never label people as "difficult" because that already gives them a negative connotation. Point taken. So can I call them "challenging" humans instead, or perhaps, humans who have been sent to earth by some higher force to teach me patience? As most people doing animal charity work will attest to, animals are never the problem, it's always the humans. Yet...

Three Little Different Stories 30th Sep 2011, by Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better
Given that we are always busy doing so many things at the same time - we do not update our blog or FB page with what goes on in and around MDDB. Herewith three different stories that had come our way the last month or so.STORY 1Just over a month ago we received a frantic call from a young lady saying she saw a dog sitting on a divider along the busy Federal Highway stretch near Angkasapuri. We asked her if she could rescue the dog and hand it over to us the next morning given that it was...

Pet Care Tip:
A running wheel is a huge part of a hamster’s life. In the wild, these little fellas run constantly. A hamster that doesn’t have the opportunity to run in a domestic situation, will definitely be at a loss both in terms of physical and mental health. Imagine being cooped up in a cage all day long. So if your hamster does not have a running wheel, please do get one for it. Your hamster will love you for it : )

Callie's In Hospital Again (Pet Boarding Cruelty Case) 30th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
During the Pet Boarding fiasco, 16 out of the 300+ cats died as a result of not being fed food or water for 9 days or more during the Hari Raya holidays. A total of 12 cat graves were also later uncovered within the premises of the operators of that boarding place. As such, we are unsure of he death toll. Of the ones rescued, many had been identified by their respective owners and have been reunited. Many were traumatised and some needed medical attention. We helped out with the medica...

Please Pray For Putih (surgery This Morning) 30th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
This is regarding Putih, the neighbour's cat that Beng Kai rescued. I have just communicated with the vet and Putih needs a rather complicated surgery which involves the re-wiring of his broken jaw and insertion of a feeding tube. According to Beng Kai's conversation with the neighbour last night, the neighbour does not want Putih anymore after Putih was hit by a car. The accident caused injury to his jaw and eye area, plus head trauma. The neighbour (who is the owner) prefers that Putih b...

A Touching Story On Loyalty 30th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
This is from a comment by Connie. I'm reproducing it here for the benefit of all readers: My belated dad once brought home 2 cute puppies. He said he found those puppies inside a plastic bag which was hanging at the fence. He said to my mum these two pups are god's creature yet, human ( god's so called most intelligent creature) has no brain for leaving the pups to die. He made a promise to the two pups that he will take care them until his last breath. He did take good care of them.10 year...

Sharing Responsibility For Putih, A Cat 30th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Khoo Beng Kai had earlier written to me asking how he could help this white cat, Putih, who lives in his neighbourhood. We discussed what needed to be done, and I had not heard from Beng Kai until a few days ago... Hi Dr ChanI am not sure you still remember me or not. I first wrote to you last month.Sadly today at about 8pm the cat that I have been feeding got hit by a car. Then the cat ran very fast to some bushes. I went to look for him & found him to be bleeding at t...

One Female Cat Spayed (Francis Tze's) 29th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Today, Francis brought a female cat to be spayed under our sponsorship. The male (who is the brother) was neutered on Monday. These siblings' mother was also spayed under our sponsorship a few months ago when I first started the One-Street CNRM.This is but one of the many community cats that Francis feeds on a daily basis at the playground in SS18.This is exactly what we are striving for - to turn stray animals into community animals, to have one (or a few) people looking after them for the rest...

Updates On Mickey - Day 3 29th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
I went to visit Mickey this evening, hoping the vets would be free so that I would be able to get some updates on his condition. Unfortunately, the vets were in surgery so I couldn't speak with them.Mickey seems alright to me. I have urged Mickey's owner to please visit him, but she says she has no transport. It would mean so much to Mickey if she could visit and spend some time with him. An animal wouldn't understand why he has been separated from his owner and his safe environment (his ho...

3 Female Cats Spayed (Nandhini's) 29th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Nandhini brought three female cats to be spayed under our full sponsorship today. These are amongst the cats that Nandhini feeds in her back alley. Unfortunately, neighbours have got together and complained over the feeding and looking after of these cats, so Nandhini has to relocate the cats with immediate effect for fear that these angry neighbours will do something to the cats. I saw these three cats when they were just babies, when Nandhini brought them to our vet for mange treatm...
