Snowy Day 5 - To Take RetroMAD1 22nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Since Snowy is FeLV positive, it occurred to me last night that rather than just providing palliative care for him, we could try RetroMAD1 as well. So, first thing this morning I contacted the scientist and he said in their earlier trials, the drug did kill off human Non-Hodgkins Beta Lymphoma cells and did not affect normal cells. If the ratio is at least 50 per cent normal cells, it's worth a try.So, that's it. I proposed this to Agnes and she said YES. We're going to try. I ...

Dawn wrote me to sometime ago requesting help with the spay-neuter of some community cats and dogs that she looks after. For her geographical convenience, she would use her own vets. Dawn sent two dogs for spaying last week and we have subsidised the cost based on our rates. Catching the dogs. At the vet's.The two dogs have since been released back to the colony. This is one of the cats Dawn would like to get spayed. She's Fafah, and her spaying will be done later, after she is done bre...

Fair & Lovely Johnny Still Looking For Home 22nd Aug 2011, by Second Chance
Johnny is one of the featured dog in our press release yesterday. He was surrendered to us by his owner after a neighbour complained she had too many dogs. Johnny is devoted to his owner and was initially depressed when he first got here but has learnt to adjust, although he is still wary of new people. Unfortunately, the stars forgot to shine down on Johnny yesterday.. He waited and waited and waited but didn’t managed to be adopted. Perhaps it is partially our fault as in order to keep him a...

The Little Girl And Her Pet Rabbits 21st Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Whenever I give talks at the Bandar Utama Buddhist Society (BUBS), the Sunday School children will come see me after the talk to either get my autograph for my books, or talk to me about their pets or about my pets (!) whom they have read about and believe me, they know every single detail, too. Some would insist on chipping in a donation for AnimalCare.Today, one of my favourite little girls waited until after the talk to tell me about her two pet rabbits. Here she is...she's complet...

Little Missy's Devotion To Her Kittens 21st Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
CP came by yesterday to return one of my big cages. I had wanted to lend it to Wei Leng for Only-One.Anyway, CP just got Little Missy spayed and Little Missy is looked after by the Filipino domestic helper, May.May had a story to tell....(get ready to go "aww...." or maybe shed a tear or two).Apparently, Little Missy, who had to be caged for her 3-4 day recovery period, missed her kittens so much. May tried, but the kittens refused to go into the cage (smart little ones). However, they have been...

Bobby's Lunch Routine And Other Idiosyncracies 21st Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
It has been quite a challenge feeding Bobby for the last two years or so ever since he became extraordinarily picky over his food. I have to try all sorts of food just to entice him to eat and at one point, nothing worked. He refused to eat, or would just pick at his food and ended up losing a lot of weight. He doesn't care for AD either. So, when i discovered Canine Caviar AND he actually liked it, I thought I had found an elixir from doggie-heaven. By just eating Canine Ca...

All About Roody 20th Aug 2011, by Second Chance
You have no idea how delighted we are when we received some recent updates about Roody . Why, well because it seems he’s adjusting very well at his new home and bonding easily with members of his newfound family (yep and this includes a fellow canine family member). As fate would have it, Roody and his adopter met during our IOI adoption drive 2 Sundays ago. According to his adopter, he can bond very well with the adopter’s existing doggie, Fluffy. In the exact words of the kind adopter “ ...

Snowy Day 3 (leukemia And Lymphoma) 20th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Updates on Snowy on Day 3 - it's not good news. Snowy is FeLV positive (which means he has leukemia), but FIV negative. However, he has lymphoma, which is a malignant cancer.
From Agnes:
Snowy has been taken out of the bubble from 10.00pm last night and has been breathing on his own. This was after the vet extracted 136 ml of bloody fluid from his chest cavity (Left 74ml, Right 62 ml). No fluid was detected in the abdominal cavity.
He's tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV +ve) a...
