Learn To Swim….and Help The Animals, Too! (Maslinda’s Contribution) 25th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Maslinda wrote to me a few days ago with a very generous and well-intentioned proposal. Maslinda is a swimming instructor and she runs private swimming lessons for ladies.
Here’s her proposal:
I have a proposal for AnimalCare Society. As you might already knew, I’m running a private swimming class, CPR & lifesaving lessons. For private swimming class, we mostly teach ladies and our private pool in PJ is only open for ladies. Besides private swimming class, we also conduct lifesav...

Updates On Blacky (Jessy Lian’s) 25th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Some updates on Blacky, from Jessy Lian:
…I called the vet clinic to check whether Blacky is fit to be discharge. The vet assistant said Blacky’s stool is firm & did not have diarrhea (Phew, what a relief!). So, I straight away drove there to discharge Blacky & sent her to the pet shop for boarding.
We are subsidising Blacky’s medical bill, and Blacky is up for adoption. Interested, please call Jessy Lian on 016-2988636.

Pretty Mama Goes To Her New Home! (Jessy Lian’s) 25th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
It is always an occasion for celebration when an adult animal (or any animal, for that matter) gets adopted.
Pretty Mama had just given birth about 2 months ago. Unfortunately, due to not having a home to live in, all her kittens passed away. It was really sad when Jessy buried the kittens and Pretty Mama looked on closely. One cannot begin to wonder how that must feel for Pretty Mama.
But things soon perked up. Someone saw Pretty Mama’s photo on PetFinder and she looked exactly like their...

Another Sporo Cat (Elaine’s) 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, while I was at the clinic, I met Elaine, a college student. Elaine is a cat rescuer and she had just brought in a sporo cat. While we were there, the FIV-FeLV test was being done, and the cat was found to be FIV positive. I suggested that Elaine request for the RetroMAD1 since it has shown very good results with FIV symptomatic cats.
I also offered our medical help for the cat, should Elaine require it.
Upon further discussion, it turned out that Elaine is a student from my college!

Visiting Sugar (Eling Chan’s) 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/sugar-rescue d-dog-needs-hind-leg-amputation-eling-chans/
I went to check on Sugar today. Apparently, Sugar has a great appetite and gobbled up her food, which is a good sign. Part of her blood test results are out and to quote the vet, “it isn’t fantastic, but it isn’t that bad”. The vets were extremely busy today, so we did not want to take up too much of their time. The vets will wait for all the results to be in before proceed...

Having A Closer Look At Sunshine Courage’s X-Rays 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Today, my friend brought Sunshine’s X-Rays and we consulted our panel vet for his opinion.
The spinal chord IS broken at the lumbar vertebrae L6. It is obliterated and bits of it is crushed. From a medical point of view, an injury of this nature causes lifelong paralysis and Sunshine will not be able to walk again.
Her heart is not enlarged, but her lungs do not look too good.
Thanks to the homeopathy medicine from Dr Susanna, my friend was able to express all the compacted faeces you ...

Photos Of Sunshine Courage’s First Acupuncture Treatment 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
My friend sent these photos and a description of Sunshine Courage’s first acupuncture treatment on Monday:
Hi Kah Yein,
I just remembered that I hadn’t sent you the photos at Sunshine’s 1st acupuncture session at Dr Susanna’s clinic.
We did not take her out of the opened carrier as we wanted to minimise movement. The towel over her head has been useful in keeping her calm and she even fell asleep during the session with her head wrap on!!
I’d like to thank Joan Sh...

Philippines: ACRES Responds To RWS 24th Nov 2011, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
ACRES to RWS: Set the record straight I refer to the letter "Dolphins bound for Singapore park not endangered" (Inquirer11/22/11). Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) states it believes in "controlled collection of particular species" and that it complied with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). However, can RWS clarify if it conducted proper scientific studies into the status of the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in the Solomon Islands prior to ...

Finding Lost Animals 24th Nov 2011, by SPCA Singapore
SPCA thanks all those who have helped to reunite lost animals with their owners by calling us when you come across one. But SPCA needs a bit more help. If the animal is running loose, we would need callers to confine it or monitor it to see where it goes until our Animal Rescue Officer arrives. This is to make sure that the dog, cat or rabbit has not run off somewhere else and cannot be found. This also applies to animals that are injured or sick but still mobile. Other ways you could help is t...
