A Response On The Case Of The Siberian Husky 23rd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/23/the-case- of-the-2-year-old-siberian-husky/
This is from Maneki:
Your post about the lady who wanted to just dump her husky made me so sad. Huskies are absurdly ill-suited to Malaysian life for so many reasons. They’re high-energy dogs with a powerful work drive, and of course their double-coat is not meant for life in the tropics. It breaks my heart to see them becoming so trendy here. Further, they are prone to quite a long list of congenital diso...

SPCA: Huskies Recommended For AVA Impoundment After Follow-Up Inspection 23rd Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
SPCA officials attended yesterday (22 Dec 2011) to follow up on the improvements for the huskies. We agree with the writer that the conditions at the field are unacceptable, and had relayed this to the owner initially.
On arrival at the location yesterday, conditions for the dogs were found to be appalling. The dogs were entangled in their leashes restricting their movement (we subsequently untangled them giving them access to their water bowl), flies and insects were flying around them, and f...

Tabs Shows Her Alpha-Ness 23rd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Ever since the vet told me Tabs is on heat, and being a young kitten, she can come on heat every two weeks (!), we’ve been keeping her confined in the house until she can be spayed as there are tomcats around the area.
And Tabs is NOT happy!
It’s ironical that a few days ago, when we closed the windows for Indy’s sake, Tabs was dying to come INTO the house. Now, we have to close the windows for both Indy and Tabs’ sake, and Tabs is dying to GET OUT.
It’s as thoug...

2 Female Cats Spayed (Maslinda’s) 23rd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, we sponsored the spaying of 2 female cats brought in by Maslinda, on behalf of a feeder in Shah Alam:
Attached are the 2 cats sent for spaying today from a feeder in shah alam. they even named these two cats since they regularly fed them from the back alley. both cats recently gave birth to 4-5 litters each. but only 3 left. some are adopted while others died. i was told that both cats are related. maybe kak nita is actually tweety’s granny. these two are extremely healthy an...

The Case Of The 2-Year Old Siberian Husky 23rd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Two days ago, a lady (who only speaks Chinese) called me asking for help. Apparently, her friend wants to “throw” her Siberian Husky out on the streets. This lady asked if I could take the dog in.
Gosh, I don’t run a shelter, I said. I cannot take any dog in. Why don’t you advise your friend to put the dog up for adoption at PetFinder.my (this lady is IT-illiterate so that’s useless) or send me a photo with the owner’s contact details and I’ll put it up?...

A New Litter-Box For Tabs 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
I went out to buy a new litter-box for Tabs since she is already litter-box trained. The one I have is rather small.
That’s Tiger (not Tabs) looking at the new litter-box. Everyone is welcome to use it. When I move, I have two big jobs – confining the cats and re-training them to use the litter-box. Somehow, years ago, when they were growing up, they stopped using the litter-box and went out to the grass instead. At that time, I thought the grass was more natural for them, so I allo...

39.3 And Going Down, I Hope (Indy’s Temperature) 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
This evening, Indy went for his jab again and with bated breath, we took his temperature.
39.3 degrees!
Still considered low-grade fever, but it looks like his temperature is going down – Hooray!!
The hypothesis now is Indy may have contracted toxoplasmosis but his body weathered the storm and now, he is on the road to recovery. OR, it may have been a viral fever and the virus has run its course now.
Whatever it is, I’m just so glad Indy is recovering.
MY storm is clearing…at l...

Bunny And Tabs Go To The Vet’s 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
I’m really becoming a permanent feature at the vet’s these days, aren’t I?
So, Bunny and Tabs went to the vet’s. Bunny with his non-stop orchestra, and Tabs, would you know it, was feverishly scratching at the carrier latch to let herself out. Poor thing…
Bunny, complaining all the way.
Tabs, determined to get out.
Bunny is definitely limping on his back leg. And he has a temperature of 39.5 degrees, which is a low-grade fever.
“Why are your cats sudd...

Adoption Spotlight 22nd Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
Sad fact: While many are enjoying this festive season, spending time with loved ones, many are also giving up their pets during this time, as happens every year. SPCA is absolutely full to bursting with dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters looking for new homes.
Happy fact: If you've been wanting to get a forever friend, now is the time to come down to the SPCA and find the dog for you.
Though their previous owners decided, for one reason or another, that they could not keep them, these wonderful ...

One Day With Bert 22nd Dec 2011, by Noah's Ark CARES
This is a story left to be told, and in loving memory of the animal we will never forget. Having worked with so many over the past few years, each animal has a place in our hearts, and heart wrenching ones like these, will only push us on to pursue our causes even further.Note: The writer finally took time off to write this blog post, so that when she grows older and looks back, these beautiful memoirs will make her smile no matter the tears shed.Seems like it never rains but pours. Having been ...

Updates On 22nd Dec 2011 22nd Dec 2011, by SPCA Singapore
If you are thinking of giving a pet as a present this season, please think again. We believe that pets should not be treated as gifts and given as presents.
Countless pets are on sale and the temptation to buy them as a gift for someone is hard to resist. When the novelty wears off, the unwanted pet may end up being discarded/given up to the SPCA.
Animals are living beings that are capable of feeling pain and suffering. A plush dog/cat/rabbit may be a better gift for Christmas instead.
Pleas...

Tabs Doesn’t Belong To The New Neighbour 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
I finally plucked up courage to go over to the neighbour’s to enquire about Tabs. “Courage” as in being emotionally prepared to accept what they say and make a decision. I’ve been so busy and anxious over Indy and Bunny I wasn’t ready to take on Tabs’ case yet.
But today, I went over and guess what? The makcik said Tabs isn’t theirs. Apparently, Tabs also went to their house, but they chased her out thinking she should go home to her owner since she has ...

Bunny And Indy’s Acupuncture Session 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Dr Susanna arrived at my house on the dot and was welcomed by Tabs!
Tabs was a most gracious host, you’d almost think she’s been properly groomed at finishing school.
Dr Susanna immediately said Tabs has some British Shorthair or European Shorthair in her. She’s partly purebred – it shows on the roundness of her face and the spots on her body. Well, that’s something I know absolutely nothing about since I’m always dealing with street animals! I sometimes can...

The Storm Is Not Over Yet For Indy 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
So off we went, Indy and I, on our twice-daily pilgrimage to the vet’s for Indy’s Trixone jabs.
I had earlier texted the vet with the good news that Indy is eating on his own already and he did pee and poo.
Indy wanted to come out and explore the clinic.
The injection was given and Indy still has a temperature of 39.5 degrees. Yesterday evening, it was 39.9, so I guess that’s a small improvement.
His weight loss today is 50g, so that’s also a small improvement.
I spoke...

A Request To Help Some Kittens (Yi Lian Low’s) 22nd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
A request below. I have written to Yi Lian (Sophia) if she would consider picking them up and doing the needful.
From:
Sophia
buttercupyl@hotmail.com
Mes sage:
Dear Dr Chan,
I went to the morning market today around 8.40am and saw a cardbox
containing about 5 kittens and 1 dead. I’m not sure how old are they
but they have yet to open their eyes. It’s orange tabby colour. Placed
on a curb right in front of the morning market. Unfortunately, I do
not have a handphone at the time and n...
