Having A Closer Look At Sunshine Courage’s X-Rays 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Today, my friend brought Sunshine’s X-Rays and we consulted our panel vet for his opinion.
The spinal chord IS broken at the lumbar vertebrae L6. It is obliterated and bits of it is crushed. From a medical point of view, an injury of this nature causes lifelong paralysis and Sunshine will not be able to walk again.
Her heart is not enlarged, but her lungs do not look too good.
Thanks to the homeopathy medicine from Dr Susanna, my friend was able to express all the compacted faeces you ...

Photos Of Sunshine Courage’s First Acupuncture Treatment 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
My friend sent these photos and a description of Sunshine Courage’s first acupuncture treatment on Monday:
Hi Kah Yein,
I just remembered that I hadn’t sent you the photos at Sunshine’s 1st acupuncture session at Dr Susanna’s clinic.
We did not take her out of the opened carrier as we wanted to minimise movement. The towel over her head has been useful in keeping her calm and she even fell asleep during the session with her head wrap on!!
I’d like to thank Joan Sh...

Philippines: ACRES Responds To RWS 24th Nov 2011, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
ACRES to RWS: Set the record straight I refer to the letter "Dolphins bound for Singapore park not endangered" (Inquirer11/22/11). Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) states it believes in "controlled collection of particular species" and that it complied with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). However, can RWS clarify if it conducted proper scientific studies into the status of the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in the Solomon Islands prior to ...

Finding Lost Animals 24th Nov 2011, by SPCA Singapore
SPCA thanks all those who have helped to reunite lost animals with their owners by calling us when you come across one. But SPCA needs a bit more help. If the animal is running loose, we would need callers to confine it or monitor it to see where it goes until our Animal Rescue Officer arrives. This is to make sure that the dog, cat or rabbit has not run off somewhere else and cannot be found. This also applies to animals that are injured or sick but still mobile. Other ways you could help is t...

A Sunshiny Day For Sunshine Courage! 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Updates from my friend who is nursing Sunshine Courage (please note that my friend has requested anonymity, hence, she remains as “my friend”):
Hi Kah Yein,
Today has been an excellent day with Sunshine!
As far as I can tell, as of this morning, all the previously compacted poo has been removed manually. It must be such a relief to the system and I believe this opens the possibility of more healing as the body is not stressed by the accumulation of waste materials.
Previously when...

Saying My Piece, And Moving On… 24th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
I’m not in the habit of dwelling in the negative, but sometimes, in the course of dealing with so many different types of humans, the ugly human annoys you, and you just have to say your piece, if only to preserve your much-needed sanity.
I’ll get straight to the point, say all that I want to say and move on as there’s lots to do.
1. There are those who demand for help. Not ask, but demand. Please don’t do that. Nobody on earth owes anybody anything. Even our parents don&...

More Options For Sunshine Courage 23rd Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Courage is now officially named “Sunshine Courage”, Sunshine is the nickname given by my friend who has agreed to nurse her for a few weeks.
I spoke to another vet today, just to widen my understanding of Courage’s condition and if she has more options.
According to this vet, it is recommended that spinal chord damage undergo reparative surgery within 2-6 hours of the trauma. After that, it might be too late and the damage would be settled.
For Courage’s case, we do not e...

SARAJEVO — Two intoxicated youths duct-taped a firework in a German shepherd’s mouth and blew off his face. But the torture didn’t stop there. The poor dog, known as Vucko, wandered for five days, unable to eat and with maggots infecting the meaty pulp of his ruined face. Vucko was finally picked up b...

Loyal Till The End 23rd Nov 2011, by AnimalCare
Mrs Wong shared this:
Two Stories of Loyal Friends and Proof Nobody Loves You Like a Dog
by Megan Drake
November 22, 2011
The love and loyalty of a good dog is well known. Recently, a report of a Hachi-like happening came from China. That was also on the heels of a similar story in California.
China
Lao Pan, a man in China whose only companion was a dog, died earlier this month at the age of 68. He left no family other than the loyal yellow dog with whom he shared his life. Once ...
