Tabitha Jane Spencer, A Vagabond At High Noon? 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Just when I’ve given Tabs a regal name, not only because she is cross-breed but also because she is very well-mannered (confident, but not aggressive, doesn’t fight with anyone, and is obedient) she decided she’d be happier to be vagabond!
Yesterday, Indy was sulking till no end because he got told off many times for stalking poor Pole. Pole would be happily lounging on the sofa in the living room but the moment Indy spider-catted out, she’ll flee to the porch. Then, Indy...

Third Party Requests – Kindly Take Note 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
In the past, there have been readers sending in third party requests, ie. they hear of an S.O.S. posted on another website or facebook page and they send me the link to be publicised on this blog.
While it all seems very genuine and sincere on the part of the requestor and also on my part, here’s the backlashes that I receive after the link or story has been publicised:
1. The person who posted the S.O.S writes to me to ask why I posted it without his/her consent and permission. “I p...

Cash Donations To Needy Rescuers – Please Bank In Directly 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Dear Friends,
We truly thank all of you very much for always responding in kind and cash whenever we highlight any rescuer in need. Very often, after I write about any rescuer, donations of food, cash and other useful items will pour in for these rescuers. Thank you so much for this.
However, for us, we only have a Medical Fund, a Food Fund and a Disaster Relief Fund, so we can only accept cash donations to be used for such purposes (to be converted into paying medical bills, purchasing food and...

Harry, Absolute Cuteness, Kitten For Adoption (Chen Chen’s) 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
From Chen:
Hi Kah Yein!
Back to my normal schedule again after a week long break. Now I’ll concentrate on finding a home for Harry. For now, here is a later picture that I managed to capture when he was feeling sleepy. I’ll send more updates as I go along. He is a perfectly healthy little kitten – exuberant, playful with a great appetite for food and life. And he always, always uses the litter box and would careful ensure his poo is properly covered like a well-mannered kitty. ...

More Of Dr Lai Chong’s Canine Caviar Gifts 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
This morning, I brought 4 packs of Dr Lai Chong’s Canine Caviar puppyfood to PAWS.
The manager of PAWS conveys his thanks to Dr Lai.
There are always surrendered puppies at PAWS each time I visit. It is sometimes so sad to listen to the surrender stories, how some people would surrender their longtime pets (who have served them well but are now old and sickly) or to hear of puppies dumped at the gate and the “dumper” scooting off without paying the surrender fee.
When I hea...

Sunsuper-Food And Dr Lai Chong’s Canine Caviar For Pak Din’s And Mr Low’s Dogs 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
We’ve given a set of 2 bags of Sportsmix adult dogfood (from our Sunsuper prize money) and 4 bags of Canine Caviar from Dr Lai Chong to Pak Din and Mr Low respectively.
This is Mr Low.
Mr Low feeds 20-30 dogs and puppies abandoned by people on a barren piece of land in North Port. Initially Mr Low only fed them bread, but after his plight was highlighted by his daughter, Winnie, we supplied dogfood to him. Even so, it is not enough, and Mr Low has to still supplement with bread every d...

Sunsuper-Food And Dr Lai Chong’s Canine Caviar Gift For Meiji’s Dogs 19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Meiji came down today to collect our Sunsuper-sharing and also the dogfood which we purchased with the RM828 we raised during Casa’s Ang Paws Furrez event.
With the RM828, we topped it up to RM860 from our food fund to purchase 10 bags of dogfood for Meiji.
Our Sunsuper-food sharing was supposed to be 6 bags for Meiji, but 16 bags of 22kg would be too heavy a load for her jeep to carry, so we took away 4 big bags and replaced it with 4 smaller bags of puppyfood from Dr Lai Chong’s Ca...

Sponsor-A-Dog At Meiji’s Sanctuary 18th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
I have written lots and lots about the great work that Meiji does. She currently looks after 135 dogs single-handedly at her sanctuary in Raub, and her only source of income is from rubber-tapping.
We have been helping Meiji now, for three years, in (previously) fully sponsoring the spay-neuter of her dogs, their medical treatment and providing dogfood in bulk every 1-2 months. Under our new subsidy scheme, we now continue to subsidise the medical needs of her dogs and we still provide dogfood...

Bulldog Becomes Surrogate Mum For 6 Wild Pigs! 18th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Tan shared this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN1xUo1Nxoc& amp;feature=youtu.be
I guess this is the wonderful thing about animals. They respond to needs. They don’t think as much as we do. They don’t need to reason, ie. Is this too troublesome for me? Will this be very inconvenient? What’s in it for me? What will people think of me if I do it? What will people think of me if I don’t do it?
They just act accordingly. Call it following their instinct or following their h...

Finally…he’s Called “Darwin”, A Story From July 2006 18th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
In July 2006, long before I started AnimalCare, I helped some rescuers in the Puchong dogpound rescue where we took out about 40 dogs due for mass euthanasia in one afternoon. I enlisted the help of my brother-in-law to use his lorry for the transportation.
These dogs were all sent to the Ti-Ratana Welfare Home and another group of people took over from there.
One of these dogs needed amputation and I raised RM1000 for the procedure and was told the dog was later transported to a no-kill animal ...

Canine Caviar For Needy Rescuers! 18th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
And here’s more heartwarming news to share. Dr Lai Chong of Hand N Paws Veterinary Clinic has donated RM1000 worth of Canine Caviar, and since the good doctor is busy helping animals, he has asked me to help distribute the food to needy rescuers. Instead of 4 big bags, we thought 30 small packs would be better as we can distribute the food to more rescuers.
Looks like ’tis the season of dogfood sharing, isn’t it?
How wonderful! It’s a blessing to be able to give, because ...

We’d like to humbly request any Scratch-KTAJ volunteer to please collect our Sunsuper-food by tomorrow (the time frame was from Wednesday to Saturday (today)) because we only have the storage space until tomorrow at the very latest.
If you can collect, please contact me at chankahyein@gmail.com as soon as possible to make arrangements.
I have sent two reminders already. It is probably an oversight that the volunteer has forgotten to collect.
We hope a volunteer from Scratch can collect soo...

Happy Tails From SPCA! 18th Feb 2012, by SPCA Selangor
"Rafiki (called "Chocolate" at the SPCA) had her unofficial 6th birthday recently - we took her home from the SPCA Selangor Animal Shelter on the 4th February 2007 when she was about one year old.
We have been back in the UK since July 2010 and Rafiki has adapted extremely well to the somewhat cooler climate here. She loves spending time in the garden even when it's around about freezing. She is such a happy and loving dog - we couldn't have chosen a better one!"
Anne, Naomi, Emma & Katya...
