Subsidy For Brushy, Rescued Female Dog (Esther Cheah’s) 29th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Esther Cheah Suet Mei wrote to me 11th January, requesting help for Brushy, a rescued female dog in KL:
I’ve been feeding an abandoned dog (at least I believe she was abandoned because she would look up expectantly at every passing car) for the past few months.
She reacts very intelligently to soft commands like sit, up and no. I would like to foster her while looking for a home as she is currently still on the loose without a roof over her head. As of now, I would believe she is in danger...

More News On Blackey, Sporo Cat From Kedah (Sha’s) 29th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Here is more news from Sha (Wan Rozima Meor Shahimi) regarding Blackey:
Dear Dr Chan,
It’s hard for me to put into words how grateful I am for your help and and the vet’s willingness to help Blackey. I suspect another spot of sporo on her body but can’t yet confirm whether it is involved the same disease or not. And yesterday I saw a bump under her belly (stiches from last surgery). I talked to the government doctor and he said most probably the dead tissue from the last su...

Calling For Votes! (Sunsuper Dream) 29th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
My friends tell me that the Kenyan Dream chalked up more than 1200 votes in the last 24 hours. At the rate it is going, it will overtake us in the next few hours. They voted round the clock, putting in 3-4 votes every minute.
And our votes have literally “dried up” because I think all our supporters have already voted.
We only managed to get 20 new votes today, while Kenya is putting in votes by the hundreds!
Can you think of anyone of your contacts who have not voted yet?
We need vo...

Neutering Our Dogs 29th Jan 2012, by Second Chance
With more than 150 dogs at our cramped shelter, it is vital to have them neutered and spayed once they reach the age of six months so that their numbers can be controlled. Spaying/neutering is not cruel but does good to the dogs. On a weekly basis, we send dogs to the vet for spaying/neutering. Here are some pictures of our dogs at Dr Tan at Citivet Animal Clinic. She is one of our panel vets. Those neutered this time are : 1. Yoyo (female 8 mth old) and William (male 1 and half year old) at Dr...

Swee Ling has been adopted by Mr Chin from Semenyih. He loves dogs all his life since young. His previous dog has passed on due to old age. Thus, he adopted Swee Ying to fill the void. We are thankful to Mr Chin for adopting one of our pups although he may have a young baby but does not mind the extra workload as a dog owner.

Ah Wah, Our Ground Worker 29th Jan 2012, by Second Chance
Ah Wah is in charge of the ground work mainly at the puppy section of the shelter. He cleans, feeds and manage the dogs at that section on a daily basis. He is not an ordinary worker. He has the charms to handle fierce and aggressive dogs that other are not able to handle. No one can go near Blackie 2 feet but Ah Wah not only could touch him but also could bath him! The male dogs also listen to him a lot, see how Victor responded to his command of "Jump Up"!

Thanks to the guidance from one of our supporters Tan Hang Chong, we were alerted to assist and Bandie is back home in a suitable habitat now. Kindly remember it is best not to catch/handle wild animals on your own not only for the animal's welfare but also yours. This species is venomous and the ven...

The Big Heat Wave 28th Jan 2012, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
I have had a rather steady two weeks at work. However, my weekends have been rather interesting. Last weekend I threw Alana (my colleague at work) an 80’s dress up farewell party. She is off to the UK in February and I will miss her heaps.
We have a great vet working relationship and have also become close friends.
She plans to torture me with her travel adventures and I hope to exploit her for free accommodation if I decide on a UK holiday trip. The 80’s theme party was in...

I know most people are still in a joyous mood celebrating CNY, but let us never ever forget that beneath all the happy events, there are still a lot of sad things that happen in the world.

Sunshine’s Updates 28th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Based on the vet’s advice when we brought Sunshine to him yesterday, there is no need to test Sunshine for heartworms (because she is still young, estimated to be below 1 year old) to start her on Heartgard.
We offered the choice of using Revolution, Advocate or Heartgard and Lydia decided just Heartgard would do since Sunshine is not in an environment which has ticks.
We’ve sponsored her Heartgard for 6 months at RM60 per pack.
The vet said to test her for heartworms after 7 months ...
