Mei Yee told us about a dog she wanted to rescue which had suffered a severe fracture. We told her to do the necessary and that we would raise the funds for the dog's veterinary care. The dog Mocha has undergone surgery and is on the road to recovery - the total cost has come up to about RM2,500. We would be grateful for sponsorship of this dog. Message:
hye.. i have this cat at my college universiti. would u like u catch
it? bcz that cat is to scare n always run.
I’ve replied to let Aida know that we are not rescuers and cannot help in that area. This poor cat looks very sick. I’m not a vet, but it looks like sporotrichosis or it is a very bad wound that needs immediate medical attention.
I have advised Aida to take the cat to a vet and get it treated. We have offered our medical subsidy. B...

Sick Cat In Need Of Help (Ms Mak’s) 3rd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
From:
Ms. Mak
girli29@hotmail.com
Message:
Hi,
We have this stray cat that we have been feeding for quite a while now
but it didn’t come home for a couple of weeks. Last week, the cat
finally came home, in bad condition. It’s very skinny now
(previously it was normal size, healthy) and very bonny. The worst
part is that it lost its ‘voice’ and smells really bad. The odor
is that of a dead rat or something rotten. We have been feeding it but
from our observation, it seems to have trouble ...

Beautiful Bella is a 6-month old kitten, with a lovely character . She had slash wounds on her back, and a kind passerby had picked her up and brought her to the animal shelter. It’s hard to imagine that anyone could hurt such a sweet, gentle kitty. She has since been treated and neutered, and is ready to go home with a family who will love and protect her!

From Koo:
Dear Dr Chan,
Please help publicise this found dog case:
This toy breed dog has been reportedly roaming in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur (TTDI) for weeks and the residents have been trying unsuccessfully to rescue her until yesterday (2 February 2012) when she followed a dog home after his walk.
A quick trip to the vet revealed the following details: female, healthy, weighing 3.5 kg, likely unspayed but most likely never had a litter and young estimated less than 5 years old. Sh...

Be Very Vigilant And Choosy When Doing Adoptions – A Sharing 3rd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
A sharing from Koo:
Hi Dr Chan,
Usually, I don’t like to forward or share stories of animal abuse/torture/killings because there is no moral or educational value to do so.
But I saw your comment about underground dog meat restaurants in Puchong and it got me thinking how they get their dogs which I’m sure have to be disease-free to be edible. Could it be that some rescuers may be inadvertently supplying lost and healthy dogs to fake caregivers out there who somehow managed to get...

The First RM300 For Blackey (Sha’s) 3rd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
We have just transferred the first RM300 (from Sau Yee and Alida Mahyuddin) to Sha (Wan Rozima) to start Blackey off on her sporo treatment in Kedah. We are confident the vet in Kedah will do all he can to help Blackey heal.
Sporotrichosis is a treatable disease and does not have to be a death sentence unless it is in a very, very bad or late stage where the body cannot heal anymore and medication cannot help. Even then, we can still try.
We are happy Sha has decided to get Blackey treated in Ke...
