Always Read The Labels And Always Use With Caution 6th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
My friend related a really sad story, and the moral of the story is to remember how important it is to always read the label on any medication that we use, whether on ourselves or our animals.
I was at the vet’s today and saw a very miserable-looking purebred dog. I asked the owner what was wrong and she said she had just given her dog a tick bath and the next day, the dog could not walk, pee or poo. It had lost the mobility of its legs. After the owner came out from the examination room w...

Take A New One And Discard The Old? 6th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
This was related to me a few days ago by an officer from a shelter. This lady had brought in a 7-year old pregnant dog to be surrendered at the shelter.
As per shelter policy, the officer explained that they could not take in pregnant dogs because the infants, if born in a shelter, would have a very high mortality rate as shelter conditions may not be very hygienic and sometimes there is outbreak of disease. Most of the time, infant animals die at the shelter.
Moreover, this dog was already 7 ye...

Some Tips On Home-Cooked Food (for Pets) 6th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Dr Susanna gave me some really useful tips on the preparation of home-cooked food for pets. I’ve tested it out and it is spot-on!
This is especially for those who cannot cook every day and need to freeze some of the portions for the next few days.
1. Portions can be kept in the fridge, but no longer than three days. For my case, my brood absolutely will not eat even if it is stored in the fridge for one day!
So, I have to freeze.
2. Here’s the most valuable tip of all – when de...

Here is the long-awaited article in the NST.
It has come out in The Star, Sin Chew Jit Poh, Nanyang Siang Pau weeks ago.
Full online article: http://www.nst.com.my/streets/central/ch an-s-crusade-to-help-strays-1.71304
Interestingly, the reporter changed our C = “Care” to “Catch”, which is appropriate too!
We wish to thank all the four newspapers for giving our work some coverage. Hopefully, the CNRM idea will catch on in the wider community.

Who’s There?? 5th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
As I was busy doing my work in the room this evening, suddenly, I saw a cat outside the room grille. Now, how on earth did one of our cats get out?
Hello…
Why, it’s Mr G!
He had obviously plucked up courage and come in through the living room window and straight to our room grille.
He was asking to come in.
Well, much as I wish I could, but I can’t. Can you imagine the havoc it would create in the room if Mr G came in? Cow and the rest of the males would start spraying ev...

Bobby’s Acupuncture With Dr Susanna Brida 5th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
As you know, Bobby has been undergoing acupuncture sessions every two weeks under Dr Susanna Brida. His progress has been remarkable, to say the least.
From the scrawny elderly dog that he was, with barely any appetite and with no more interest in anything much except when he needed to break up cat-fights (!), look at him now…
And doctor, what are you writing about me today?
Bobby has gained weight and he is no longer boney. He is also interested in his surroundings now, and in fact, ...

Dogfood Fundraising For Meiji’s 134 Dogs 5th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
I spoke with Meiji today, and asked how much dogfood she has left. She says she only has enough for another 3 more weeks.
It is the rainy season and the income from rubber-tapping is not enough to supplement the expenses for the sanctuary.
Our call to Sponsor-a-Dog for RM50 at her sanctuary has not been successful: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/18/sp onsor-a-dog-at-meijis-sanctuary/
For 134 dogs, Meiji needs 40kg of dogfood per day, that would be about 2 packs (of 20kg) per day, supplemented ...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/03/28/medical-s ubsidy-for-curly-dog-with-cancer-meijis-2/
Meiji just informed me that Curly passed on on 31st March, after taking a turn for the worst on the last day. Meiji had been taking Curly for treatment at UPM for cancer. Unfortunately, the treatment is the chemotherapy tablet, and this medication had taken a toll on Curly’s immunity. We sponsored Vetri DMG for Curly and the dog with heartworm Stage 3, Herculis.
On the last day, Curly vomited bloo...

We have fully sponsored RM120 for the spaying of a female dog rescued by Joanne Lim Teng Teng.
I’m writing to apply for the spaying subsidy for Joy, a female dog born last June in the factory where I worked (Jalan Kapar, Batu 7 1/2). Joy n her sibling, Mei Mei were having their 1st heat end Jan/early Feb and they were quickly caged to avoid pregnancy. After their heat, both dogs were checked and vaccinated. And last week, I have sent Joy to the vet’s to spay. Joy is now doing fine...
