Sometimes It Is Good To Be A Big Headed Staffy 29th Apr 2012, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
It was 7.30 p.m. and I was running a little late at work after a pretty full on day. I was feeling quite fatigued and when I realised I was on emergency call, I expressed myself aloud saying: ‘I hope not to receive a single afterhour’s call and if I do, it had better be a true emergency’. I knew the moment I uttered those words that I had shot myself in the foot.
Only five minutes later, the after hour’s phone rang. I immediately picked up the phone and the distress...

Baloo Is In Rainbow Bridge (Andy Lew’s) 29th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/28/baloo-blu ey-under-critical-care-andy-lews/
It is with deep sadness that I inform all our readers and well-wishers that Baloo passed on at 10pm last night.
I just received the news from Andy Lew and I think I’m also in shock. It is, however, not totally unexpected since she was in a critical condition last night. I was already prepared for the worst, but I hoped for the best. This morning, I told Andy that should I fail to find a fosterer for Baloo ...

Baloo Bluey Under Critical Care (Andy Lew’s) 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
While I was at the Bersih Rally, and when we still had reception, I texted Andy twice to ask about Baloo. However, Andy had left his hp behind, so I only managed to call him later, while on the train heading home.
Baloo was in a rather critical state. The X-Rays show fluid in the lungs and this is causing her breathing difficulties.
The vet was not sure what the fluid was and needed to draw some out for testing but told Andy the procedure was a 50-50 case and that Baloo might die.
That was shock...

Bersih 3.0 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Once in a while, I need to take time off from running AnimalCare and do other things which are important to me.
So, today, allow me the indulgence to share my day with you.
Last year I was in Penang attending my brother-in-law’s funeral on 9th July (Bersih 2.0). So this year, by hook or by crook, I just had to go. Talk about “social responsibility”, this is it.
It’s for our children’s future, and their children’s. And who knows, the animals might have better ...

Updates On 28th Apr 2012 28th Apr 2012, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
A poultry farm saw a reticulated python devour a chicken.
Rescue volunteer officer, Sheryl Fever: "Looking at those chickens cramped in cages, row upon row, with no shelter from the hot sun, I actually think the python did the chicken a favour, providing it with a quick death."
Charlene from ACRES: "Of all the rescues, this has to be one of the most disturbing to date."
(Due to confidentiality, venue cannot be disclosed).

Caty Is Back Home And Doing Well (Koo Swee Por’s) 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/26/medical-s ubsidy-for-caty-koo-swee-pors/
Koo informed me last night that Caty is now home and recovering well.
We will Caty a full recovery in no time, and may she be fit and healthy soon.
A lovely home with DT awaits Caty.
Once a street cat, once with a badly infected eye and ovarian cysts which nobody would have known about, could have died on the streets had the cysts burst, but now, off to a new home on a new lease of life.
Thank you, Koo and thank yo...

Those Who Look After Bobby 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
As you all know, Bobby has looked after every single kitten I brought back, and as I was doing a check-list the other day, 48 animals have actually been fostered in our home (mostly kittens) in these 3 years.
So, now that Bobby is old and grey, who looks after him?
Cow, being the eldest (or so we think) is always near. Cow has always taken it upon himself to be the “big brother” of the feline clan.
Nowadays, Bobby feels much better (after all regular acupuncture sessions), so h...

Why We Are A No-Kill Medical Fund 28th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/27/sweethear t-is-this-what-you-would-have-wanted-a-reflection- on-euthanasia/
A reader seems very upset (please see comments in post above) and she is of the opinion that we are condemning people who opt for euthanasia for their pets or rescues and that we are saying that it is wrong.
Let me clarify here, and this is our official stand, that we are promoting no-kill in animal welfare but we are NOT condemning euthanasia nor saying that it is wrong.
Promotin...
