My Deepest Apologies, The Mistake Is Most Regretted 29th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
I was informed this morning by a friend that one of my blog posts in the previous weeks had contained the price of the food (Sunsuper-food) purchased by a certain shelter operator and the name of the shop from which it was purchased was also published. You know how I always cut and paste what is sent to me and the only information I remove are vets’ and clinic names.
Inadvertently, that one blog post had created a lot of unpleasant complaints to the shop owner because other customers went ...

A Bed Of Thorns, Part Two 29th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/28/a-bed-of- thorns/
Updates on 29th Feb, at 8.00am:
These two applicants are not from the Klang Valley, so it had been rather difficult for me to get the resources to check out their “shelters” and what they do. But as luck would have it, someone wrote to me last night with more news about this “hoarder”. YES, she IS a hoarder. Apparently, it is not due to ignorance, but plain stubbornness (the “I know what I am doing, so don&...

A Bed Of Thorns 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
I just had a most unpleasant conversation with a rescuer who is asking for food subsidy. I cannot BELIEVE how unreasonable and demanding some people can be. When they ask for help, they dictate terms and it’s worse when they use the “I’ve done this for umpteen years and I know what I’m doing” line on you.
Since when, in our human culture, dare we dictate terms when we ask another for help?
We have a food subsidy but we also have very strict rules on who qualifies. T...

Urgent Help Needed To Rescue An Injured Cat (Shain Rashid’s) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Shain Rashid (016-3412980) has requested help to rescue an injured cat who has a bad wound on its left jaw. If you are able to help, kindly contact her directly and make arrangements.
This cat needs treatment urgently. I hope Shain will get the cat treated once rescued. We have offered our medical subsidy.
I’ve also asked Shain if it might be possible for her to pick up the cat and send it for medical treatment as the wound looks really bad, rather than wait for so...

Keeping The Mischievous One Out Of Mischief (Diva News) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
After the afternoon episode where I was more freaked out than she, Diva was frontlined and caged. I needed the break!
She had her evening meal just now (ate most heartily) and jumped down to go explore around the piano this time. Uh-uh, nope, you’re not going under the piano because it takes EIGHT able-bodied men to lift the piano.
So I brought her into the room with me.
Tabs wasn’t friendly at all. She hissed and chased Diva and the poor thing ran and hide behind the waste paper bas...

Cat For Adoption (Fenton Yong’s) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
If you are interested in adopting this cat, kindly contact Fenton Yong at fenton.yong@gmail.com:
Hi Dr Chan,
A friend of mine is actually seeking some help to find a permanent home for a male that that she is looking after now. This cat (no name was given and it is estimated that he is around six months old) was actually found lingering around the place where my friend works and it was believed that someone has dumped him there while he was still a kitten. Initially it was my friend’s col...

Exciting News From Soi Dog, Thailand 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Let’s watch and learn!
I am writing to tell you of an exciting development in the future of Soi Dog Foundation. You may be aware that our ambition is to establish a national organisation here to tackle the problems faced by millions of stray animals.
You are no doubt aware that Soi Dog has been actively involved in Bangkok in the latter half of the year; firstly working with local people to fight the illegal dog meat trade and to introduce animal welfare laws, with this work now accelerat...

Subsidy For Last-Ditch Efforts To Save The Poor Dog (Shirley Wong’s) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/13/dog-in-cr itical-condition-passes-away-shirley-wongs/
When Shirley Wong called me for help on 4th Feb, I had already offered our medical subsidy.
Nothing was done until 12th Feb when the dog was already in a severely critical condition.
She asked if we would still subsidise if she sent the dog for treatment and for the sake of the poor dog, I said yes.
It was too late to save the dog. He died that night itself.
As promised, we will subsidise and have bank...

Adorable But Oh-So-Naughty Little Diva 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
I just spent the last 1 hour trying to “extricate” Diva from her hiding place…
I came home from work and saw Diva had made those precious “rocks” (glorious poo!) we had been waiting for – well-formed and good looking ones, too. So, that’s a relief…at least we now know she can pee and poo on her own. There was pee in the litter box as well. More than that, she had also kicked sand out of her box onto the floor and overturned her water bowl.
She see...

Animal Rescue: Puppy Under A Pavement 28th Feb 2012, by SPCA Singapore
This little guy was found by community caregivers yelping in distress in the middle of the night. He was stuck under a pavement, hungry and his mother was nowhere to be found. With the help of the caregivers, our Animal Rescue Officer dug an opening through the ground to the puppy and was able to free him. The puppy was taken back to SPCA and is now safely in a foster home.

Good Morning, Diva! 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
I was awaken this morning by loud mewing from downstairs.
It was Diva, of course.
Last night, she had already learnt how to squeeze out from the edge of the cage door (many kittens soon discover this), so I tied a yellow ribbon to secure the door to the bars of the cage and that took care of that.
Diva was quite unhappy about being caged. She wanted to walk about the dining and living room. So, I let her walk around until almost 1.30am.
This morning, she ate on her own, from only from my hand ag...

Busa, Puspa And Billie (be Inspired!!) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
My friend, Lydia, called me up about two weeks ago. She was clearly very excited to share a most wonderful story. Dr Susanna had referred a first-time rescuer, by the name of Billie Eez, to Lydia because Billie had picked up an injured cat from his alley, and sought Dr Susanna’s help. Dr S is now treating the cat, name Busa, but at the same time, advised Billie to consult Lydia on the possibility of physiotherapy help.
Billie is a Chinese man who runs a very small and modest pizza joint so...

More News From Across The Ocean (HSUS’ On The Oscars) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
From the Humane Society of the U.S.:
If you watched the Oscars last night, you might have seen it: A phony “consumer alert” ad attacking The Humane Society of the United States.
Your HSUS is under attack by a shadowy front group called HumaneWatch, which placed that ad. Led by a notorious D.C. lobbyist nicknamed “Dr. Evil,” the group is funded by the restaurant and food industries, among others. Their goal? To stop you and me from fighting against animal cruelty in all it...

News From Across The Ocean (PETA’s On Caboodle Ranch) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
From PETA:
Imagine that your family has packed you up and shipped you across the country to a total stranger. You are surrounded by others who are also stressed, terrified, and confused. The stench is overwhelming, and disease is rampant. You cannot get away from the insects—they swarm around you, cover your eyes, and fly into your nose. There are maggots and roaches in the food. When you fall ill, a stranger forcefully grabs you and scrubs your face with a Clorox wipe, burning your eyes. You ...

A Precious Rock? 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Yes, even diamonds come from rocks and before they are harvested and polished, it isn’t much to look at. Why, we might even pass it off as another stone by the roadside!
Take a look at this…
What IS that?
Well, for tonight, it is something more precious than diamonds…
It’s Diva’s pee clump!!
YES, Diva pee-ed on her own in the litter-box! And a mighty big one at that, too.
She is out for a walkabout now….mewing loudly.
The next “precious rock” will...

All 7 Kittens Adopted! (Jennifer Govin’s) 28th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/20/fosterer- needed-for-mother-cat-and-7-kittens-jennifer-govin s/
Hi there,
Firstly, a big thank you for putting up the pictures on your site. All the kittens have been adopted. I will next proceed to have the mother neutered (wonder if you can help me out in this?).
As for little ‘Alien’, we have seen 4 different vets to date. And yet none are able to give an accurate diagnostic of her condition. Notice I call it a ‘her’ now, as the...
