Jeannette wrote to me last week when a cat she rescued was suspected to have FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_ infectious_peritonitis
From Jeannette:
Dear Kah Yein,
I found a female cat about 3 years old having breathing problems.
Sent it to the vet and suspects it to have FIP.
X ray was done and confirmed fluid in the lungs.
Was advised to put her down.
I dont want to do that and I am trying at all costs to keep her alive.
I am hoping if you give me ...

The Rescuers (and Hoarders) Defend Themselves 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
There certainly has been an influx of applicants asking for help recently and I’m actually caught in a rather difficult situation of whether “to help or not to help”. So, help me out, please. I’d like your opinion on the following cases. I’m running a poll here, and would appreciate your answers YES/NO to the following questions:
1. Knowing that she cannot manage financially, physically and emotionally, a rescuer keeps taking in the animals dumped at her doorstep. ...

Updates On Blackey, Sporo-Cat In Kedah (Sha’s) 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Updates from Sha:
Sad news, the sporo comes back..the wound opens up and begins to bleed soon after I take her back. The vet asked me to bring her back to the clinic in 2 weeks time (interval time without medication). And the treatment and boarding at the clinic will continue like before. I have been fostering many kittens cats during the past years but Blackey is the most serious case I have ever seen. kind of panic and anxiety at the same time. And her hernia is getting bigger too, bigg...

Woman Who Won’t Let Pig Be Barbecued (happy Ending) 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Read all about it!
Source: http://www.care2.com/causes/woman-won t-let-pig-be-barbecued.html
Written by Laura Guttridge of Florida
I received an early morning call from an animal welfare group that needed someone to rescue a 4H pig named Dragon, who was about to be auctioned off for slaughter. Apparently, this pig was a 4H project for a group of mentally challenged students, that had no idea of the impending fate of their beloved pig.
Well, this sounded like a job for me! The group wired me e...

Baby Alligator/crocodile Relocated To The Zoo (Nandhini’s) 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/01/24/baby-alli gator-found-in-small-aquarium-at-restaurant/
If you remember, Nandhini reported this to the Dept of Wildlife, but apparently, nothing could be done.
Undeterred, Nandhini went to the press, and as of last week, the baby alligator/crocodile has been taken to a zoo.
Perhaps having been taken away or bred in captivity, the baby alligator cannot survive in the wild anymore, so it may be better off in the zoo.
Three cheers for Nandhini!

Food Subsidy For Kelly And Jacinta’s Dog Sanctuaries In Ipoh And Tanjong Rambutan 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
In July 2011, I highlighted the plight of Kelly Tan Juat Jong and Jacinta Victorine Emmanuel’s two dog sanctuaries in Ipoh and Tanjong Rambutan. These two ladies manage more than 100 dogs in their two shelters. Jacinta still works for a living, but Kelly does not. Kelly has also sold her house in order to raise the money to look after these dogs and maintain the shelters.

The Other Side Of The Story (Caboodle Ranch) 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
I published this on 28th Feb 2012 - http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/28/news-from-ac ross-the-ocean-petas-on-caboodle-ranch/ . It was news from PETA, claiming that the cats on Caboodle Ranch were in a bad state.
However, there is also the other side of the story, and just minutes ago, I received this: http://caboodleranch.livejournal.com/
Pleas e read both and do the needful.
IF ONLY humans would tell things AS IT IS. If only humans would not lie, scheme and plot with their own selfish agendas...

A Bed Of Thorns, Part 3 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/28/a-bed-of- thorns/
You may wondering if there is any progress on the hoarder’s application to us for food subsidy.
Yes, actually, there is.
Here’s what has happened in the past week.
Since this hoarder is not dwelling in Selangor, I needed some help to find out what she does and what is going on. I found the help and apparently, she IS a hoarder, by all definitions.
She just keeps taking in animals from the streets, thinking that she is doing t...

Academic Research On Hoarders 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Here’s some very useful information on hoarders, from one of our readers:
Dear Dr. Chan,
I appreciate that you feel strongly about the Hoarders that you encountered. I feel particularly saddened that they are animal hoarders that exist among our community and sadder still for animals involved.
So far, I had not personally encountered animal hoarders but mostly object hoarders. If someone I encountered brings in a pet to a vet and get the appropriate medical treatments and feed it and care ...

Fun In The Sun…with Mr Gorilla? 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Ever since we netted our gate to prevent Bobby from accidentally slipping out when he goes for his daily walks in the garden, Mr Gorilla had stopped visiting our garden. It was a little sad, though, ‘coz the old guy is a harmless chap who just wanted to make friends with our cats (and in the process, was also destroying our rock garden..ha ha).
But, how can anyone keep a cat out for too long, right?
Take a look at this morning’s episode….
Mr Gorilla is back for a visit!
G...

Litter Matters 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
After about two weeks of testing out three brands of cat litter, I’ve decided to use a mixture of Ever Clean and Breeders Celect (paper litter).
Cat’s Pride was good for odour control, but it has too much dust and was not cost-effective for me because I’d end up scooping a lot of good un-used litter (because it doesn’t clump).
I also found out from various sources that the clumping agent is actually just good old-fashioned CLAY. There are no chemicals. The chemicals are o...

My Internet Connection Is Down 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Hi everyone,
In case you are trying to reach me online, please be advised that I have no internet access until I can make the Unifi people understand that I am requesting for a technician to come fix my phoneline (which is down) and my Unifi signal (which has only been at 2 bars ever since it was installed – long hair-pulling story, will spare you the details). A long phonecall to their customer consultant last night resulted in my losing quite a bit of hair – I failed to convey the ...

Little Kumquat Is Now In Rainbow Bridge 4th Mar 2012, by AnimalCare
Little Kumquat was a tiny kitten picked up by my schoolmate, Sharon. Sharon had never handled such a tiny animal before, but she learnt. We communicated, she learnt a lot from the internet, Kumquat was brought to the vet for check-ups, and her two sons helped as well.
Kumquat was doing really well. See this: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/15/kumquat- the-kitty-from-a-first-time-rescuer-sharon-anne/
B ut last night, it was time for Kumquat to leave this life as a kitten. He passed on at around ...
