Cow Bites Off His Bandage…twice
6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

Barely an hour after coming back, suddenly I saw spurts of blood outside the door of the carrier. Cow’s e-collar was intact but he had bitten off the bandage and the wound was bleeding a little. His e-collar was blood stained. I tried to bandage it back, but he was too fierce and uncontrollable, so it was off to the clinic again.  At the clinic, the vet said if he bites it off again, we could just leave it. But for now, the vet bandaged it back, this time, more securely. Cow was put on a...

Cow’s Back Home!
6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

Everyone seemed to know that Cow would be going in for something since last night. It must be the vibes.  Last night, Tiger accompanied Cow wherever he went.  He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother…  Everyone was especially protective of Cow, somehow.  Cow was his usual self.  You can see that bad nail there.  This afternoon, since Cow had to be fasted, everyone had no afternoon snack as well. There was not much of a demand for food, surprisingly. I’m glad. Otherwise...

Puppies In A Hole
6th Jul 2012, by Second Chance

I took this picture near my house. These two puppies took shelter in a drain. First thing that came to  to my mind was how cute they were. But they were starving and their mother was finding it so hard to search for food for them. People think that neutering is inhumane but please think hard about it again.....I know some owners  won't neuter their dogs but let them wander out of their houses. These dogs will certainly find 'interesting things' to do out there. Some...

While most of us look forward to the weekend ahead, Emerald the Green Iguana will not see another day. We found her just around the corner from our rescue centre, her head completely crushed. A sad, sobering reminder of why the demand for illegal pets must stop; it's up to all of us, everyone who cares, to create awareness and save animals like Emerald from such a cruel end.

Neutering Subsidy For 2 Male Cats (Lim Swee Yen’s)
6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

We have subsidised RM160 for these two cases. From: LIM SWEE YEN sweeyenlim@yahoo.com M essage: Hi Dr.Chan, I would like to apply for a subsidy for the castration of 2 male cats - Bee and Xiao Tan. Bee was rescued in October 2011 when he was just about 2 days old, with his umbilical cord still attached. He was abandoned at a park together with his sibling (which did not survive). They were left at the park with towels and a bowl of milk. The person who abandoned them obviously had no idea that...

See what happens when you are allowed take-out room service from ChinaHouse! Itchy (on the left) and Scratchy were both found at different times on the street outside ChinaHouse.           &n bsp;   As you can see, Itchy, who was rescued by Narelle on March 25, was in very bad shape and we didn’t expect him to survive… But look at what a menu of beef ribs, grilled chicken and omelette can do! Hope is the emotion that drives us forward. And Hope, the monitor lizard pictured below, is still very much alive after a hit and run yesterday afternoon. She regurgitated her meal, possibly a toad (crushed on the road beyond recognition). While the blood in her mouth could be from her meal, our vet has cleaned up her bloody toe where she had lost a nail and will observe her road to recovery over the next few days. Fingers crossed, we will update everyone on Hope's injuries and the poss...

Please Pray For Acel, Petknode Survivor (Maslinda Abd Talib’s)
6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

Acel (formerly Russell) is the Russian Blue rescued from Petknode on that fateful day many months ago. He was one of the three admitted at the clinic on that Sunday. Six were brought in, but only three admitted and they were in bad shape. All three went to Maslinda upon discharge. Callie, the one who was only skin and bones, passed on after several weeks, after a brave and courageous fight all the way. Ayap and Acel are still with Maslinda now, but Acel is unwell. We are subsidising Acel’s...

May Super be in a happier and better existence now, after having received so much love and care from Maslinda all these months. Thank you, Maslinda. From Maslinda: Super died at 11++pm . today sh...

When GREED Rears Its Ugly Head And CONSCIENCE Takes A Back Seat…
5th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

In running AnimalCare, the hardest and most tiring (and often, annoying) part is having to deal with applicants who are not honest and forthright with us. This is written in our policies: Our subsidy assistance is open to individual NEEDY caregivers of street animals. NEEDY = Those who have no means of raising funds on their own.   Our subsidy assistance is NOT open to recognised organisations.  And this: Our maximum subsidy for MEDICAL TREATMENT: 50% of the total cost for treatment subject ...

Coping With Blindness In A Pet
5th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

Nurul’s story on how she coped with Fang has been most inspiring, and here, we share another similar experience from one of our readers: Your posting on the cat Fang that suddenly became blind brought my attention to the attached file on side effects of baytril. My experiences with my cats I have noted that their medications have side effects on their behaviours and well beings. I have a blind cat Olie which we found abandoned in a car park as a kitten; she was too tiny to go through any p...

Cow’s In-Grown Nail Or Something Else?
5th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

Cow has been having this wound on his paw for sometime now. I took him to see the vet today and it is possibly an in-grown nail or something else which cannot be determined until he goes under sedation tomorrow. But it is infected already and he is currently on antibiotics. The vet said the options are to cut open the wound, clean it up and push the nail back, or if it is badly infected, digit amputation might even be necessary. This means part of his toe might need to be amputated. I hope it wo...
