Just wired the final $4,000 to the Ukraine to purchase the land for the wonderful new shelter for DRYG ("Friend") animal shelter. At last, the dogs and cats will have a safe place to stay and the rug can't be pulled out from under them. Thankful tonight to all of our incredible supporters who made this possible.

DEER ON ICE:
We got involved in the rescue of a deer on the ice today. It's not uncommon for deer to wander out there or get chased by coyotes. This one seemed to have lost its footing and couldn't get up. The deer is now safe and recovering but this is a good reminder to all of us to keep an eye on waterways this time of year. Wildlife do get themselves into trouble from time to time and it takes skilled rescuers, in this case the fire department, to undertake such a complex rescue with special...

"As a whole, macaques stand little chance against humans. But if the situation demands it, they do stand up. One has to respect them for that - and learn how not to trigger macaque revolts."
Being the most common monkey species in Singapore, you might just encounter long tailed macaques when you least expect it.
Read this article to better understand them and avoid any unnecessary conflict - http://goo.gl/guzFf

We just heard that a boy got bitten after going too close to a monkey. He was reported to be only 5 metres away, taking photos of the monkey.
If you see monkeys, please don't make eye contact with them, or bare your teeth by smiling. These are threatening behaviours to a monkey.
While our green spaces are decreasing, the monkeys can still find food, please don't feed them. If you have fruit trees around, please harvest them soon, or request for National Parks Board to trim fruit trees by the ...

New Food Ideas For The Brood, Inside And Outside 28th Jan 2013, by AnimalCare
Wheatgrass in a tray outside in the pantry for them to chew on by themselves.
So far, only Bunny was “caught” on CCTV chewing on the grass.
By the way, this is just ordinary soil and the wheatgrass is thriving like crazy (big fat leaves!).
The serai is dying, after being continuously attacked by Cow and Bunny!
This is steamed sardines (from the market), with freshly cut wheatgrass.
With just RM3 worth of sardine fish, I can feed everyone, inside and outside, and they all love i...

Activity On The Ledge! 28th Jan 2013, by AnimalCare
A lot has been happening on the ledge lately.
From being used as a convenient route of travel for Mr G, it has now become a convenient place for “other activities”.
A few days ago, I saw a tabby (I highly suspect it is Starry) humping on the bushy calico…on the ledge! I shoo-ed them but the tabby wouldn’t budge, so I had to spray water to break them up. Then, I quickly emailed Mr G’s owner to ask if the bushy calico is hers and if so, to get her spayed since it look...

Do you have time to help???
From a volunteer:
"My boyfriend and I (English couple) were visiting Penang and found out online about the SPCA shelter and emailed to see if we could pop by. We spent 2 days at the shelter walking the dogs and then a couple of hours each day playing with the younger dogs and puppies who could not be taken outside the shelter. The vet students working there informed us that the dogs do not get taken outside the shelter if nobody volunteers - which instantly made us ...

Feline Signs Of Love 28th Jan 2013, by AnimalCare
Here is a sharing by Bernice Chee:
Source: http://www.examiner.com/article/fel ine-signs-of-love
Cats can and do show affection to both their feline companions and the humans in their lives. They communicate their love with a variety of physical behaviors, some more obvious than others.
The degree of affection a cat shows people will depend on how socialized the cat is, the cat’s personality and how much they trust the person. Because of this, your cat may show you all or just some of the fol...
