A Malaysian Street-Cat At A Nearby Restaurant 13th Feb 2013, by AnimalCare
We had brunch at an Indian restaurant today and the regulars drew our attention to this street cat. According to the regulars, she’s a very nice cat, but recently injured her eye due to a fight.
Take a look at her photo:
Doesn’t she look a bit like the European street-cat on my wall?
The restaurant regulars asked if we’d like to adopt her. I said we couldn’t as our house is already full, inside and outside.
I think the cat is pregnant, from the looks of it.
Does anyone ...

This Year of the Snake, why not sponsor Stubby, the rescued python?!
Stubby the ball python was being kept by a member of the public who was unaware of the restrictions on keeping snakes as pets in Singapore (it’s illegal!), Stubby was handed over to ACRES in August 2011, all set to begin his second chance at a better life.
Stubby was likely to have been bred in captivity or smuggled all the way from Africa to Singapore. He’s now enjoying life as a sn...

Updates On 13th Feb 2013 13th Feb 2013, by SPCA Selangor
This poor black dog was left by his owner in a motorbike sidecar at the Petronas petrol station in Ampang Jaya. He waited there faithfully for 4 days for his owner to return, and finally the Petronas staff called SPCA to pick him up as the owner was nowhere to be seen. Poor dog spent his holidays alone - abandoned without food and water. SPCA Selangor has decided to make him as our mascot for our new Eco shelter that we are trying so hard to start building soon. Let this new year ring in hope, l...

Updates On 12th Feb 2013 12th Feb 2013, by The Great Animal Rescue Chase
Kelle Mann Davis captures more lost and homeless dogs in a month than many dog catchers do in a year. Honing in on Houston’s 5th Ward, where the number of street dogs has reached epic proportions, this former ob/gyn nurse gave up her career helping deliver babies from high risk pregnancies for an equally engaging passion, and people who know her often question whether or not she has something more than luck on her side.
Over the weekend, Kelle was driving on US 59 in Texas when she happene...

<< Tips for snake encounters >>
Snakes naturally live in Singapore’s parks and reserves, and if you’re lucky enough to spot one, stand back and watch their graceful movement from a distance.
Most snakes are not venomous, although we do have some venomous species in Singapore, so you do need to be cautious if you come across a snake.
Snakes will only attack as a very last resort, if they feel threatened and cannot escape.
They’d rather save their venom for catching their prey....

Oh Gosh, Slithery Encounters On The First Day Of The Snake Year? 11th Feb 2013, by AnimalCare
I am not superstitious and I do not observe taboos, so I shall tell the story as it is.
You know how it is that this year is the Year of the Snake and people send wishes saying “May the Year of the Water Snake bring you….(all the blessings for a good year)”?
Well, late last night, as I was closing the patio door, I saw Rosie, Daffodil, Timmy and Ginger surrounding a dead snake near the patio.
Again?
Yes, again.
And this one was big. Not huge, just bigger than the last one.
As I...

Elephant, My Friend – Joe The Little Pygmy Elephant, Is Learning To Have Fun Again 10th Feb 2013, by AnimalCare
I think we were all appalled and deeply saddened to learn about the deaths of so many pygmy elephants in Sabah recently.
But now, Joe, the surviving baby elephant is learning to have fun again, all thanks to his caretakers who are taking really good care of him. However, they are not sure if Joe would still die of a broken heart. It takes a lot of work and dedication to help Joe adjust to his new life.
This Chinese New Year, let us not forget that many lives out there who need our compassion and...
