A Pre-Dawn Attempt: The Quack Walked Right In…and Out! 18th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
I was determined to carry out Plan B.
So before 6am, I had already fed Ginger and my brood.
I then went to the pavilion with a carrier, a towel and one piece of fish head. If the Quack was there, maybe we’d try Plan A (the grab-with-towel plan. It worked with Abg G, for Maslinda). Maybe Francis could help too.
Francis had finished feeding the pavilion cats. I asked if the Quack came to eat this morning, Francis said no.
“That’s him fighting with another cat”, Francis ...

The Quack Resurfaces…and Terrorises 17th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
No sooner than I had finished writing the previous post than I heard the sound of catfight in the porch. I quickly rushed out and it was the Quack! He was trying to attack Rosie.
Oh no…I grabbed the house keys and opened the door. But the Quack is much, much faster. Before you know it, he had chased Rosie out.
I ran out to the road and spotted the Quack five houses away at the bend of the road. My goodness, he is SO fast. I called for Rosie.
After awhile, I heard the sound of heavy panting...

No Quack In Sight 17th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Ginger slept through the whole afternoon. He seemed to be exhausted. Many it’s the excitement from the visit or just the excitement (human vibrations can be transferred to the animals, I was told).
So we had a totally peaceful and quite afternoon.
Dinner time!
Plonking the pill in was as easy as the previous times, so it’s not beginner’s luck after all. He is just so easy to pill. My conjecture is that non-alpha cats are easy to pill. I think I could be right because I have ...

Operasi Quack, Plan B 17th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
I spotted the Quack twice this morning. He was at the playground.
My friend, Agnes, had already made plans to bring her trap over and we’d try to catch the Quack this morning.
But by 10am, four workers had come to the playground to do some construction work and it was very noisy.
Anyway, Agnes arrived with her trap and baked fish as bait.
The first thing to do was to cage Rosie with Ginger so that Rosie won’t be accidentally trapped.
That’s Agnes fixing the bait onto the ho...

Ginger Day 8 – An Amazing Shrinkage Of The “lump” 17th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
I checked Ginger’s “lump” this morning and I was totally amazed. It had shrunk to 1/3 of its size in just 24 hours. My guess is, the one week’s antibiotic jabs and the follow-up of oral antibiotics are working. Hopefully, the lump will disappear soon.
Good morning, Ginger!
Notice the extra platform on top? We borrowed that from Pole’s condo and Ginger loves it. He was sleeping on the upper platform all night.
The wound is healing well and the lump is 1/3 of yest...

Dear Kah Yein,

Updates On 17th Dec 2012 17th Dec 2012, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
Spotlight on: Malayan Sun Bear
Little Neung is a Malayan sun bear, as you can tell from the bib-shaped golden or white patch on her chest, which legend says represents the rising sun.
Ironically, sun bears are nocturnal. They lumber through the forests by night, snacking on fruits, berries, roots, insects, small birds, lizards, and rodents. They have an excellent sense of smell and extremely long claws, exceeding ten centimeters in length, which they use to rip open trees and termite nests...

Leave The Little Birdies Alone 17th Dec 2012, by Dr Rayya's Online Veterinary Journal
Summer has arrived and it brings with it the introduction of so many beautiful little birdies.
In the last two weeks, our clinic was inundated with so many different species of nestlings, fledglings and juvenile birds that have been brought in by the public. I was examining pigeons and different types of parrots (corellas, galahs, and sulphur crested cockatoos), ravens, honey eaters, kookaburras and so forth. Most of these little critters were in great health. Others were injured or malnourished...

Pilling Ginger 16th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
It was 9pm, time to feed Ginger his next dose of antibiotics.
It’s always been a nightmare feeding any pill or liquid medicine to my brood of 7, so I braced myself for the task. What more when Ginger is a community cat and not even my pet.
So I armed myself with a toweling floor mat (it’s thicker than a towel), a can of wetfood (Natural Balance Ultra Premium), cut open the foil containing the dratted pill (thank goodness it’s quite small), drank a glass of water and took a deep...

Don’t Mess With Cleo (a Story Of Feline Hierarchy) 16th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
With 7 cats, there is often room for change in the feline hierarchical ladder in my brood.
Currently, it goes like this:
Tabs bullies the outside cats. Bunny bullies Tabs. Cow bullies Bunny. Indy bullies Cow (yes…this is something new which started recently).
An Indy-Cow confrontation.
Note Cow’s lowered ears?
For now, nobody bullies Indy. I think it’s because nobody can quite figure out Indy.
Tiger stands neutral. Nobody bullies Pole. Cleo is afraid of Pole and only...
