We received an emergency call today about an animal in distress and boy was our Animal Rescue Officer surprised when he arrived on the scene! Unable to fly, this bird was found on a void deck in Yishun by a resident. Our Rescue Officer managed to bring the injured bird back to our shelter, and the bird is now on its way in our rescue vehicle to Jurong Bird Park, where the vets have better expertise with wild birds. If you spot an animal in distress, remember to call our 24-hour emergency ...

Stray Dogs And Cats In Istanbul, Turkey
12th Jun 2013, by Second Chance

I have spent a few days touring around in Istanbul, Turkey. I am most impressed by the freedom given to the dogs and cats to roam around in this big city. I have taken pictures  of them in the popular tourist spots, open parks, shops, eateries and even religious places. I see many Turks play with the cats in the parks, those in the eateries will feed them, some of the residential area will see bowls of kibble in front of their houses for the strays to eat. The Turks are  really animal ...

EXCITEMENT GROWS OVER PLAN TO HELP DOGS: "We Just Can't Sleep!"
12th Jun 2013, by The Great Animal Rescue Chase

The winters in Romania are bitter cold. Yet thousands of dogs and cats there are living in shelters that have gaping holes in the roves and in the walls....and those are the dogs lucky enough to have a building to take shelter in. We at the Harmony Fund don't believe these animals should suffer just because the volunteers who care for them are poor. We believe we can do something big to change their fate for the coming winter. The Harmony Fund is in an urgent race to turn things around in the ...

Beware Of The “dog”
11th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Yes…and he even does a mean tightrope walk to boot! Who has a dog? Me!! Nandhini dropped in this evening to collect something and I wasn’t back yet. When I came back, Nandhini had a story to tell. She was standing outside my gate and guess who came to guard the house? Vincent Valentino Starr….! Yes, our patio alpha is back in action, mind you. He’s back from his sick leave and has resumed full duties. Nandhini said Vincent was “patrolling” by walking to and fr...

“Crown Court” At Bunny’s Place
11th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

One of my favourite tv shows when I was growing up was “Crown Court”. It was a fictional British tv series on legal proceedings in the English court which was shown on our tv in the 70s. Well, we seemed to have our own version of “Crown Court” today, at Bunny’s Place. WHO was on trial?? Well, you need some background on this first. For the past few days, Tiger had been the victim of bully tantamount to abuse. By whom? Who else? The Bunnyphant was the chief perpetra...

Dogfood For Lester Hiew Thiam Hock And Mum, Jenny Khong Chin Chin
11th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

I was enquiring the price of canned dogfood for the many, many dogs whom Lester Hiew and his mum feed. My friend, Amy Lim, who runs Subang Pet Products, was very touched with Lester’s work, she wanted to donate too. Here’s Lester and Amy. Amy donated a pack of dogfood and has pledged to donate to these dogs on a regular basis. Meanwhile, we have sponsored 36 cans of Chicopee High Premium Dogfood (1.275kg) and 4 packs of Caliber (22.7kg) dog kibbles for the dogs. This includes the c...

The Importance Of Ear-Notching, Part 15 (or More?)
11th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

We have been going on like a broken tape recorder about the importance of ear-notching or ear-tipping for 4 years now, because one of the first things we did when we started in 2009 was to emphasise ear-notching. I’ll let Koo do the talking this time with his story of the “Pool Cat”. Hi Dr Chan, Just want to share my experience on the importance of ear notching of stray female cats. Yesterday, AL a condo resident e-mailed me to seek my help to recommend a nearby vet for a stray...

SPCA's Adoption Gallery
11th Jun 2013, by SPCA Singapore

Ida is a female mixed breed with one of the friendliest faces you’ll ever see on a dog. She enjoys being with people and would make an excellent family pet. She is a medium size girl and likes to exercise, so she would do best in a home with a garden or access to a public dog run. She is sociable with other friendly dogs but needs to be introduced to them slowly. She is very pretty (she looks like she’s wearing mascara!) as well as intelligent, and she can sit, down and walk on leash for tre...
