EXTREME CHIMP RESCUE LEADS TO PLANET-WIDE MISSION! http://animalrescuechase.com/donation/chi mps-in-congo.html Eighteen years ago, I was working at an international animal rescue charity in Boston and was involved in a campaign to rescue captive chimpanzees in the African rainforest. Mokolo was the first of them. As a baby he'd been sold to a German couple who adored him and let him eat at the breakfast table. But when they left Africa, they gave him away and his growing size meant growing dang...

Life Is Oh-So Comfortable…with Patchwork Blankets!
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

Ever since I placed the folded patchwork blanket on my desk for the purpose of photograph-taking, I never quite had a chance to remove it because at any one time, a cat would be on it! Meanwhile, the total number of orders for the patchwork blankets is now six. My mum is really excited about it as she can put her creativity to work again! Peace to all. Goodnight!

Willy’s Ear-Notch Is Healing
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

The ear-notch is nice and dry now. I think Willy’s rate of healing is just slower than the average cat. I’m still giving him Vetri DMG.  Letting him get used to eating with Heidi. Heidi ate kibbles again today. Sometimes she forgets…shh. But the moment Heidi growled, Willy fled!

Every state that passes similar laws moves our country closer to shutting down the U.S. market for shark fin soup. This newly ...

Bunny’s Mischievous Water-Bowl Game
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

For two days in a row now, I’ve caught Bunny red-handed toppling the water-bowl. Not just any water-bowl, mind you. It’s the stainless steel water-bowl which comes in a holder, hooked onto the side of Pole’s condo. I didn’t manage to take photos of how he unhooked the water-bowl as I’m still not very good with my phone camera, so I missed all those shots. But here are some after he had unhooked the water-bowl. The aim of the game is to unhook it, that’s it. A...

Heidi And Mr Zurik’s Spots
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

This is Heidi’s favourite spot nowadays. It’s so comfortable, it’s almost like a hammock of sorts for her. And this is Mr Zurik’s spot??? Is this for real? Mr Zurik is in the cage with the door wide open? Yes, it’s for real. He seems to know the cage is his canteen and he is quite comfortable sitting there after eating. Isn’t that cute? He comes out now… Oh oh… He came to “cari pasal” this afternoon. I think maybe it was...

Drumrolll…..the ARMY GREEN Colour!!
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

Finally….the supplier was so accommodating, they mixed six army green shades and 2 cobalt blues for us to choose from! Here they are…. Hmm…now, they seem to look almost the same, but no, they are all quite different. So, we took it out into the sun to get a better and sharper look… To be fair, the priority is Army Green as it won by one vote (remember?) and the two shades of cobalt blue weren’t nice too. I thought no 560 (covered by the supplier’s thumb) was ...

We received a call about an injured community cat and our Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) arrived on the scene to find this. Near the flower bed at the void deck of Block 837 Woodlands Street 82 was an adult white and brown local cat. But this girl had an unusual injury - there was a rubber band tied around her left front leg. Our ARO brought her back to our shelter, and our consultant vet gave her a thorough check. The rubber band appears to have been wound over twice. She may be injured, but s...

Body Language In Cats
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

Chen shared this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvsfB7sf4QU No wonder, I’ve often noticed that none of the cats like a belly rub when they do “tummy up” and I’ve actually stopped doing the belly rub (I believe it’s dogs who like it!).  What I do is to speak to them and acknowledge their trust, maybe rub their thigh instead. This video says all they want is a scratch on the head. Lots to learn, folks! And about time too, since they understand us better than we do...

The Vegan Pet Controversy In Australia
1st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

While it is entirely possible for some humans to be vegetarian or even vegan, we believe that cats are carnivorous while dogs are also carnivorous (but need a little bit more plant food than cats). However, we are not any expert on nutrition, so we always advise that you seek the professional opinion of a vet or pet-nutritionist on what is best for your pet. This is reproduced, with permission, from the Vegetarian Society of Singapore (http://www.vegetarian-society.org/):   The link to the...
