Teaching "Sit"

Every dog can sit, but they don't instinctively understand that the word "sit" means you want it to plop its butt down on the ground. Dogs need to be taught to understand our commands and should not be expected to know English from the get-go!
Kang Nee, a certified professional dog trainer with a PhD in Zoology, works with us and the dogs in our shelter. Under her Canine Education programme, she works with our volunteers and helps us train our dogs so they can better adapt to their environment....

Tabs’ Temperature Is Normal!!

I am writing this from my phone as I know everyone is waiting for good news. Tabs’ temperature is 39.44 degrees which is NORMAL!! She defecated lots too. No diarrhoea. All normal. No hairball at all.
Her vet wants to do a full blood profile to be on the safe side and advised one more night on drips.
Tabs is very perky today and says THANK YOU to all the aunties and uncles who prayed hard for her recovery.

Lulu's torn ligament has been assessed, and it's a relief for all of us that the tear is not too bad, however exercising the joint at the hip to ensure maximum range of motion is crucial while she recovers. Tiger Looks For Tabs

It’s probably anthropomorphising, but Tiger went berserk yesterday, squeezed out of the grille and dashed around the living room, looking for something or someone.
I think Tiger was looking for Tabs as both of them are very close.
So, how do you explain it to an animal that his best friend is in hospital and won’t be back yet, but not to worry, as his best friend is safe.
You can’t.
We can say it in our language, in our thoughts, and only hope that they will somehow understand....

Daniel is recovering fast though he still has abscess and secondary infection on the head. He still needs to stay a few more days at the clinic for treatment and observation prior to being discharged. The swollen part on the head where the vet drew out some pus.His eyes look more hopeful and trusting now.Despite eating a lot, he is still underweight.

Tabs In Hospital – Day 2

I reached the clinic at 9.30am this morning. As I approached her cubicle, I saw her sitting down facing the wall (that means she is angry). When I called her, she looked in front and her face lighted up immediately. She wanted to come out of the cage, so I let her out and she sat on my lap immediately.
She seemed so much more perky today so I was sure she had no more fever.
I brought her food up and managed to feed her 50ml of the blended ID. She was hungry!

After 4 months of communication with multiple agencies and concerned members of the public, ACRES Lao PDR finally coordinated the successful rescue of a juvenile pig-tailed macaque from Savannakhet Province. Kept as a pet in a guesthouse, malnutritioned and constantly frustrated in her small cage, she is now awaiting her chance to join her new macaque family at ACRES after her quarantine period.

The rain definitely did not stop the crowd from turning up at the Adoption Drive last night.
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank all 13 adopters who adopted a pet from us. You saved a life, cause you opt for adoption. :)

Neutering And Medical Subsidy For 2 Dogs, Miki And Xiao Bai (Kimberly Ong Bee Kin’s)

We have subsidised a total of RM376.65 for Miki and Xiao Bai. The breakdown is below. This subsidy comes from the AnimalCare Donors (RM176.65) and Berjaya Cares (RM200).
The breakdown below is based on the items in the receipt (it differs slightly from the estimate given by Kimberly in her email):
Miki: RM25 for vaccination.
Miki: Medical bill: RM327.30 (excluding Frontline, shampoo and e-collar; but we have subsidised the hospitalisation as it involves surgery). Our subsidy is RM163.65.
