It's Me And My Dog 4th Nov 2013, by SPCA Singapore
We often tempt our dogs with treats in order to help them learn faster during a training session. But do we always have to reward them with food when we want them to perform a specific act? What happens when we don't have treats on us? Can a dog trained using food rewards 'perform' without food?
Of course it can, if you use food rewards correctly - as a reward and not a bribe. Kang Nee, a certified professional dog trainer with a PhD in Zoology, works with us and the dogs in our shelter. Under...

Dog Alerts Parents About Abusive Baby-Sitter 3rd Nov 2013, by AnimalCare
Here is the story: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/dog-alert s-parents-about-abusive-babysitter.html#ixzz2ja57o 0X9
It is really a pity that street dogs have a rough time, especially in this country. Dogs are such loyal, friendly, trusting and faithful companions to humans and I believe they would even give their lives for their owners.
Unlike cats who are naturally more survival-skilled, dogs don’t do as well on the streets. Coupled with the fact that street dogs have a much harder time...

Hungry Udi 3rd Nov 2013, by AnimalCare
Poor Udi…he was so hungry this evening.
I did not see him for breakfast this morning. Only Willy came. But by dinner time, Udi had come into our house compound and was peeking from the wall.
I also found out that Udi has a sibling who looks exactly like him and both of them belong to a certain house. The owner must have gone off on a holiday.
As much as we wonder why owners do this, I think it’s better to be proactive about it and do the needful – feed the cats first. I couldn&...

Sweet, happy doggy with red dot on forehead celebrating Deepavali with family spotted outside a house at Taman Mayang.
This stunt doggy then nimbly hopped onto the fence, up the tall autogate pillar and back into the house, more agile than Jackie Chan!
Happy Deepavali and enjoy your weekend! =)

Wuchai - An Accident Victim 3rd Nov 2013, by Second Chance
This is Wuchai. He is a very quiet and calm dog that unfortunately was met with an accident in Sri Kembangan, Selangor and left him with two very weak hind legs that almost paralyzed him. He was sent to the vet by his rescuer, Jessica. He was warded for four weeks but he came out of the clinic with a big bad pressure sore. He is currently with us at Second Chance and is being given physio treatment by Sydney. He is also being fostered by one of our volunteers so he can do more exercises to ...

“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” 3rd Nov 2013, by AnimalCare
It means “The whole earth constitutes our family”.
The other day we shared this link on Indian street dogs and their rights: http://jaagruti.org/information-to-empowe r-you/indian-street-dogs-and-their-rights/
The parts which touched me most were:
1. As per Indian law, streets dogs cannot be beaten or driven away. They can only be sterilised (neutered), vaccinated and returned to their place of origin.
2. In India, there is no law that prohibits the feeding of street animals, and ...

TONIGHT'S MIRACLE-IN-THE-MAKING
We're helping in Bosnia this time....
Tonight we responded to a distress call about a three-legged dog Ferdinand who needs to get to a veterinary clinic in Zagreb. On the bright side, Ferdinand has gained strength and put on weight since he was found on the street with an open wound and missing leg. However he is experiencing urination problems that the local veterinary is unable to resolve. The only way to complete Ferdinand's rescue is to get him into a more co...

Feeding Willy And Udi 2nd Nov 2013, by AnimalCare
I’ve decided to call the creamy-white cat “Udi” instead of Alex. Somehow, Udi has a nicer ring to it. And it’s also rare.
Willy was waiting for dinner this evening…
While Willy isn’t afraid of me due to our past acquaintance…
Udi is.
And yet I could sense he must be really hungry to have dared to venture this far from home and come close enough for me to notice him.
Yes, he was really, really hungry.
He had THREE helpings.
Vincent watched them eat.
