Thank You Very Much, Shah Alam Buddhist Society! 29th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare
Just when I thought our tshirts were not selling well, there was a happy turnaround today at the Shah Alam Buddhist Society. Many thanks to all the devotees for their support, Bro Kevin and our volunteers, Chiew Leng, Connie and Lester.
Looks like we have to re-order the Black! Somehow, Black, Faces and now, Army Green, are everyone’s favourites. And it’s the same set of cartoon characters. Cute sells!
Thank you very much, SABS!
We sold out on the soap! We didn’t bring enoug...

TRIBUTE TO MS ARNOLD
We are so sad to learn about the passing of our long-time supporter and friend of the animals, Ms Celine Arnold on the 20th of September. She was a retired English Teacher, and she came in the same time every year to donate RM5,000 annually for the last 16 years without fail. She loved animals, and always kept SPCA Selangor and our shelter animals close to her heart. We will miss your loving heart and beautiful spirit, Ms Arnold.
With love, from all the animals and peop...

PEPPER THE 'CHICKEN-KILLER' GETS A GREAT NEW LIFE!
www.HarmonyFund.org
Doreen Tumminia was at work one day when she found herself consoling a coworker who had just said goodbye to her elderly dog. And with a reputation for being active in helping locate lost pets, Doreen seemed like a natural ally.
“She knew that I looked for peoples lost pets in my spare time, so she asked me if I could find her another dog,” Doreen said. “Her other dog was sad at the passing of his companion, so ...

The Wisdom Of The River 29th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare
I remember an old poem my teacher penned in my book in primary school. It goes like this:
Do your best and leave the rest;
‘Twill all come right; Some day or night.
I later found out that it is from Anne Sewell’s classic, Black Beauty. Of all the poems I’ve come across, this is one that I’ve remembered and held on to all my life as my guiding principle.
It is so full of wisdom about what we can do with everything that we have to do: Do your best and this is so important. ...

My Able Tabby Assistants 29th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare
The teddy bear blanket is almost done…just two more lines and I’ll be handing it over to my mum for the finishing touches…
Of course part of the credit goes to Dame Heidi.
She supervises.
Tabs is my other able assistant.
Peek-a-boo!
Yes, she plays…!
Anyone wants to play with me? It’s Hide-and-Seek…on my rules!
We’ll be selling our tshirts, soap and toothpaste at the Shah Alam Buddhist Society in Bukit Rimau this morning, after my talk.
If you are ...

A Veggie Meal – Simple, But Filling And Nutritious! 29th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare
Here’s an idea of what you could do for a simple, homemade veggie meal.
Use a variety of vegetables (5 to 6 types would be good). Add a dash of your favourite oil, and voila, you have a nutritious soup, which serves as a whole meal by itself. For bulk, you might want to add sweet potato.
Boil the carrot, leek and celery first. Add in the cauliflower/broccoli in between and the leafy greens last. I’ve got french beans in there too, but that’s only because I wanted to eat it up ...

Updates On Daniel.... The Maggot Wound Dog 28th Sep 2013, by Second Chance
One of our volunteers went to the clinic to check on Daniel, vet said he has a good appetite and been eating a lot. However Daniel can be a snappy dog, well for a homeless dog, it could be due to the hard life he's had out there, or it could be the pain he's suffering from the wounds. He has a sad face, perhaps he still does not know what awaits him. We at Second Chance hope you get better soon Daniel, no more maggots, no more pain and no more suffering. Daniel has lost one ear becaus...

A Smelly Affair......Get Better Soon Daniel 27th Sep 2013, by Second Chance
This is our latest rescue. Daniel was found wandering weakly near the shelter area. When we got close to him, we were shocked to see the severity of its wound! He was thin and frail. We could see his eyes were running out of life. He must have been in a lot of pain as when Dr Calvin tried to check his wound, he would try to bite him. We thank Dr Calvin for his prompt action and withstanding the stench. The maggot wound smells like rotten flesh. His wound has been cleaned and it will take some ti...

Inflation, Our Funds And Your Rescue And Caregiving Work 27th Sep 2013, by AnimalCare
With the recent petrol hike, inflation usually follows. Everyone is going to be hit. We know that animal caregivers are also going to be hit hard as there are vet bills to be paid, petfood to be prepared/bought and this is above the household and personal expenses of every individual and family.
Since May 2013, we have had a sudden increase in medical claims. This coincided with the Berjaya Funds that came in so that has been a great help. But in a few months’ time, the Berjaya funds are g...

Guide Dog Sacrifices Life Saving Owner's Child
ATLANTA, US - An Atlanta family is mourning the loss of a beloved guide dog who left them with one final heroic act.
Seconds after he was struck by a car, Simon, an 80-pound Boxer, pushed his owner's child to safety.
"This is true loyalty and courage," said Dave Furukawa.
Furukawa, who is visually impaired, has counted on Simon as his companion and guide for the last four years.
On Monday, Furukawa was walking his child, Will, to school. Simon ...
