A lot of the conflicts that occur between humans and macaques is due to the lack of awareness in reading them and knowing how to behave among them. Macaques use facial expressions to ‘talk’ to each other and to humans. For the next few weeks, the Macaque Team will bring you through a guide to the different Macaque facial expressions. Feel free to ask us anything and remember to spread the crucial knowledge you gain for the sake of the macaques and everyone!
Let’s start with ‘happy’ ma...

Spaying Subsidy For 3 Rescued Dogs, Now Adopted In Johor Bahru (Loh Chuan Chyi’s) 26th May 2014, by AnimalCare
We have fully sponsored RM150 for the neutering of the male dog and subsidised RM300 for the spaying of the two female dogs.
Initially, we only received an email with photos of these dogs (without any message). There was, however, a phone number later, so I called but there was a communication problem as Mr Loh could not speak English or Cantonese and before I could revert to Bahasa Malaysia, he had hung up.
He managed to get his clerk to reply to our email and we have called the vet to verify t...

Cow Wars 26th May 2014, by AnimalCare
Today was a day of Cow wars.
It started with Ginger standing right outside the grille.
Ginger was just looking in.
Cow was already foaming at the mouth.
I could hear Cow huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf.
While Ginger looks completely innocent.
I had to break up the escalating anger before Cow lost his mind.
Then, later, Cow and Indy were both standing at the grille and suddenly, I heard a explosive “Bang!”.
I don’t know who hurled himself at the grille but I think ...

Loyal till the end, truly man's best friend.
An American bulldog and her puppy in Lake Wales, Florida risked their lives to defend their family against a rattlesnake. They were bitten in the process, but are now resting comfortably and recovering.
Unfortunately, a third dog involved did not survive the snake attack that took place near the front steps of the dog owner’s home.
Candy Sappington said her dogs, particularly Maisy, began barking furiously at the six-foot-two-inch diamondback ra...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2014/05/19/ivan-and- justin-a-rescue-and-rehome-story/
It was on 19th May that little Ivan sauntered into my computer lab one morning. I guess someone had dumped him at the college grounds as he looked very lost. I picked him up and Connie helped send him to the vet’s for a check-up. As I was leaving the college, another younger kitten was found at the parking lot, also looking very helpless. I named him Justin and also brought him to the clinic.
Ivan was give...

Bunny Bun Buns’ Day 4 26th May 2014, by AnimalCare
Here’s…..Bunny!
He is okay and has been taking his Clavomox obediently (wrapped in food, of course).
As of yesterday, there was no more soggy mass. The wound has healed but I still continue spraying Path-Away on it.
I’m quite amazed that despite his FIV+ condition and his age, Bunny did not get a fever with that deep wound and he also healed fast compared to his health condition years ago (at a younger age) when a simple wound would lead to a fever, a sneeze would lead to a t...

Dog Bite Prevention Tip #1
A dog seldom bites ‘out of the blue’. It usually starts with the dog communicating its discomfort in being in a particular situation through a display of stress signals, e.g. turning away, lip licking, yawning, shaking off, closing its mouth, stress panting, growling etc. When these signals are repeatedly ignored but we continue to put the dog in that stressful situation, the dog reaches its limit of tolerance, and bites in an attempt to escape or protect itself. ...
