Guinea pigs are social creatures and do better with a companion. However, they also breed fast and should be kept in same-gender pairs to avoid unwanted litters. Instead of heading for the pet shops, Samantha came to our shelter to look for a companion for her existing guinea pig. She found Pipi, and the rest is history. Read Pipi's adoption story here - http://www.spca.org.sg/services_adoption_happyendi ng.asp
Thank you Samantha for adopting and saving lives! And for being a responsible pet ow...

This afternoon, there was thunder here followed by very heavy rain.
It is always a problem when there is thunder during feeding time.
For example, inside, it’s Indy and Bunny who are not afraid of thunder and they will be demanding for food. The rest, especially Tabs and Cleo would be far too afraid of eat and both will be hiding; Tabs behind the door and Cleo under the bench. So, only Indy and Bunny will be eating and the rest would have to be fed later by which time Indy and Bunny would ...

Tiger Day 20 – Still Not Out Of The Woods Yet 26th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
It’s been a very busy day today and it was only now that I managed to get a closer look at Tiger’s sores.
Looks like we’re not out of the woods yet.
Tiger had a happy day, without me “disturbing” him too much.
He took all his medicines and I only applied the Wound Protector once in the morning. No Lamisil. Occasionally throughout the day, I would steal a peek at his sores and they looked “good” to me.
But just now, as I was giving him his third dose of...

Spay-Neuter Subsidy For 13 Cats In Jerantut (Ngoo Nguk Poh’s) 26th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
It was on 7th May 2013 that we subsidised the spaying of 11 female cats looked after by Mdm Ngoo Nguk Poh in Jerantut. She had no access to a vet in Jerantut so a vet from Subang Jaya went up there to help her spay all of her 11 female cats at that time.
Mdm Ngoo contacted us again some weeks back asking for help to neuter the rest of her cats. The same vet obliged and drove up there last week and this round, the rest of her 13 cats have been all neutered now (5 males and 8 females).
We have sub...

Tiger Day 20 26th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Tiger’s sores continue to shrink and dry up!
The left front paw.
The left hind leg.
The above are the last sores to watch out for – the originals and most stubborn of them all.
They are shrinking by the day and drying up. And Tiger doesn’t want anything applied on them anymore (like he knows?) but I still sneak some Wound Protector on them. It was on Day 18 that the sores started shrinking. Sporotrichosis is infamous of taking a long time to heal, so 18 days is already a bonus,...
