It is an extremely hot afternoon out here on day 3 into our renovation works for the office and lounge at ACRES! Everyone is covered in perspiration! However, the appearance of 30 vegan chocolate cupcakes lighted up our day! A very sweet gesture by Zarifah Fisal, one of our dedicated wildlife guardian. It was her birthday yesterday, and she made cupcakes for others to celebrate her birthday instead; remembering to leave a whole lot for us! From everyone here at ACRES, including the animals, w...

Path-Away Feedback
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

Thanks again, everyone, for asking about my Zurik-bite. It seems to be a lot better today. For the past two days, it would get inflamed, even hot and I did wonder if it was infected, but today, I’m quite confident that it’s not. I sprayed Path-Away on it frequently, from the moment I was bitten until now. The wound has closed up and it’s not as swollen or painful today. And here’s another piece of feedback on Path-Away from Joy Saga: Joy’s ringworm, before and aft...

Zurik Alert, Zurik Alert!
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

Mr Zurik is here!! What are you doing, Mr Zurik? Giving instructions to my shrews… He’s in the house now! Zurik alert, everyone!! Vincent came in, to take care of things, just in case. A Jedi warrior never abandons his friends. Even Heidi woke up. Daffodil is not afraid. Chill, everyone, chill…I’m just a harmless little pussy…see? Rosie is still asleep and Ginger is probably still at his rooftop den.  Fear not, outside cats, an inside cat is helping to kee...

Cow-Tiger Fight
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

I don’t know if it was fueled by the presence of a new cat (the white kitty), but Cow terrorised Tiger today, resulting in specks of blood on the ground and very tiny specks of blood around Cow’s shoulder. By the time I got out to the Clubhouse, I saw Cow facing Tiger at close range, Tiger was sitting under the chair and looking a little scared but calm. Cow was huffing and puffing like a deranged….well, like a deranged Cow, I suppose. I broke up the fight and that’s when...

Oh, Hello There, Are You New Around Here?
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

This afternoon, I spotted a new cat on the ledge… Hello there… And peek-a-boo to you too! He looked hungry because he was eyeing the kibble jar, so I placed some kibbles onto a bowl and left it on the patio floor. Cow and Indy had already spotted him. Daffodil went for the kibbles. Oh well… Aww…you didn’t get to eat…sorry. The kitty walked along the ledge….I suspect he is from Mr G’s house. In any case, I’ve sent an email to ask if he...

Latest on SPCA’s Appeal for Jail Term for Businessman (Lim Soo Seng) convicted for Pet Neglect - The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) assesses that “the S$10,000 fine imposed, the maximum fine under the law, was not manifestly inadequate”, and therefore, did NOT appeal against that - hence, there would be NO JAIL TERM over and above the S$10,000 fine The AGC has responded to SPCA’s appeal a month, or so, after our letter to them (dated 5 May, 2014) asking for a court sentence that wo...

A Peaceful Porch
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

I came home this afternoon to a peaceful porch…(because Mr Zurik wasn’t around!). Daffodil on the lookout point while Timmy sleeps at the Canopy Cafe. Ginger is probably in his rooftop den. Rosie is fast asleep in her favourite place at the flower pot. Heidi is safe under the sofa! Vincent was under another chair. So all is well and why so? (‘Coz Mr Zurik isn’t around, that’s why!) I wish Mr Zurik would go home. He can come for meals, but please don’t initi...

Morning Wake-Up Call
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

This morning, at 5am, Rosie came upstairs to wake us up. Gosh, it was only 5am….why, Rosie? She kept mewing non-stop, jumped onto the bed and nudged us up. We finally figured out what she wanted – she wanted food before her “line-dancing class” at the pavilion. I guess she has been getting food elsewhere early in the mornings because normally she is not exceptionally hungry every morning and sometimes just nibbles and goes off. Sometimes, she and Vincent vomit out multi-c...

How To Safely Break Up A Dog Fight
11th Jun 2014, by AnimalCare

http://dogingtonpost.com/how-to-safely-break-up-a- dog-fight/#.U5fHqPmSxqV It’s called the wheelbarrow method – grabbing the hind legs (if you are with a friend). Or, if you are alone, then the recommended approach is the belly-leash, but only after all else fails (making loud noises, etc.). Our disclaimer holds. Please do not risk getting yourself injured.

WINDOW WASHING CREW USE THEIR POLES TO SAVE DROWNING HEDGEHOG Hedgehogs can swim, but a crew from Archer Window Cleaners in Manchester, England recently found one in distress in the Ashton Canal. “One of the lads spotted something in the water and he thought it might be a turtle or something at first," the company's founder Chris Oaks told the Manchester Evening News.“But when we got a bit closer we realized it was a little hedgehog. It was really small so can’t have been very old." O...
