Turtle update from Lao PDR.
In our Sanctuary in Lao, the turtle enclosure upgrade is now complete and we released them into their new ponds today.
For some of them it has been a while since they actually had the space to swim. So it took them a bit of time to get used to the pool, which slopes down to a depth of nearly a meter.
But they are all happy now.
We just need to do a bit of landscaping around the pool to make the ground more fun for them!

Love is Ageless, and our Executive Director Corinne Fong shares with readers of "pets" magazine (in the current, Aug/Sep 2014 issue) how owners of SENIOR PETS can better ensure they are given the best care possible.
Older companion animals may also better suit working adults and people who are retired or semi-retired. First-time pet owners who may have little or no experience with puppies/kittens/much younger animals may also be better off with a mature companion animal. (Senior animals are ge...

"Hi! My name is Rachel. I arrived at the SPCA with a couple brothers and sisters, but sadly I’m the only one left now…I was adopted once by a really loving family, but then I had to go back because one of my humans got a severe allergic reaction to me. Shortly afterwards I was adopted a second time, but they didn't want to keep me! I don’t know why, everyone says I’m sweet and full of life…I would love any family that would be willing to accept me and allow me to come into the house fr...

WOMAN GOES BACK TO PROTECT SKUNK CROSSING ROAD
Liz Bedard of Massachusetts was on her way home from a shopping trip and a very long day at work when she came across a skunk crossing the road slowly, and her intuition guided her to turn back and help:
"As I am driving down the hill, I notice a skunk on the grassy embankment start to make his way toward the street," Liz said. "I drive past and get an overwhelming feeling of dread for him so I turned my car around and headed back in his directio...

For Adoption 2014 9th Sep 2014, by SPCA Sarawak
CHAINED FOR LIFE: Kept "only for alarm", his owner claimed that he is "afraid of dogs", and has never let it off the chain before. The poor dog's infected wound was in such a bad state that it nearly cost him his life. He is now receiving proper medical attention in the vet's clinic.
Chaining a dog goes against its natural instincts. Dogs are not meant to be tied up! Do you know that studies show that chained dogs are much more likely to bite than unchained dogs? Please, help to educate your f...

We Are Just One Among Many Animals 9th Sep 2014, by AnimalCare
For those who need scientists to say it, it was already said out loud in 2012: http://fcmconference.org/img/CambridgeDecla rationOnConsciousness.pdf
Of course animal caregivers don’t really need to hear it from the scientists as they (the animal caregivers) already know this, intuitively, through their daily interactions with animals.
But here’s are some facts for reflection: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ingrid- newkirk/one-of-many-animals_b_1836537.html

REQUEST FOR HELP
Ms Sukuma found this dog dumped downstairs in the flats where she lives. The dog had hind leg paralysis, high fever and was crying in pain. A private vet was called to come and treat the dog, medicine was provided but the vet recommended further blood tests and other diagnostics that Ms Sukuma couldn't afford. She does not want the dog to be put to sleep, and is appealing for assistance with the dog's medical bill and a foster home for the dog.
If you can help, please call Ms S...
