Weekly Pet Care Tip - Preventing Canine Heartworm
Dogs can develop illnesses just like you and me. Canine heartworm is a deadly disease where a dog is infected with large roundworms through infected mosquitoes. The disease develops over a period of 6 to 7 months but symptoms only show in the advanced stages. Do consult your vet for preventive medication.

Note on emergency calls (04 281 6559). SPCA's Inspectors are disappointed that many times when they attend to emergencies after office hours, there are no animals when they arrive. We will ask that the caller stays with the animal until we arrive. Only genuine emergencies will be attended to out of hours.

Wally @ SPCA Selangor, Jalan Ampang
http://www.petfinder.my/pets/65187
This boy pulled off a little stunt that lead to his rescue – he got stuck in a drain, and the fire department had to use a fire hose to extract him out.
A loyal and intelligent boy, Wally is capable of alerting the owner when something is amiss. Loves following and hanging out with you too, lounging around chilling out and having a cool drink.
Due to his past experience as a stray, Wally is a bit insecure at times to str...

Jellybean @ Petaling Jaya
http://www.petfinder.my/pets/65072
Jellybean is small in size but strong in character. With a unique 3rd eyelid that is "stuck", this tiniest of the litter has a cool "I-can-do-it" attitude" and often leads his other bigger brothers. Also known as "spring", as this bouncy Jellybean is always jumping up and down.
He may outgrow his stuck eyelid condition when older, or it can be corrected, but it is not necessary as it doesn't affect his health. Doesn't this make him l...

SUGAR-FREE SWEETS CAN KILL YOUR DOG
The artificial sweetener Xylitol is as dangerous to your dog as a puddle of antifreeze. Dogs metabolize Xylitol differently than humans and will suffer a massive crash in blood sugar within minutes, followed by liver failure. Quantities as small as a couple sticks of gum are often fatal for small dogs, and it won't take much more to seriously damage a larger dog.
Sugar-free cakes, muffins, sweet breads, candy, Jell-O and chewing gum smell irresistibly delic...

Does Your Pet Pass The Knuckle Test?
There's a rising problem of obesity among pets. According to one study, "veterinarians consider 47 percent of their patients overweight or obese but only 17 percent of pet owners think the same. Why the difference? It could be denial or the difficulty owners have in recognizing when their pets are overweight."
It is understandable. Not only can it be hard to know if your pet is on the pudgy size if you aren't trained in animal health, but pet owners love t...
