This week, 5 of our blankets have been “adopted”!
First, we wish to thank Yuen Foon for ordering 3 blankets. These are going to be presents for two weddings and as a retirement gift.
Thank you very much, Yuen Foon, for your generous donation to our Fund and for your kindness in using our blankets as gifts. We are very honoured!

Our Own Owl Pillows! 5th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
Updates: I was supposed to make a bigger owl for Jessy and this turned out a wee bit too small. So, I’m going to sew a bigger one, hence, would anyone like to adopt this Ms Pink? I need more kapok! Where’s the nearest place to buy (in Subang Jaya)?
The original post:
So we got Ali-Baba-ed by the company who shortchanged us 4 owls, but as I’ve said, we will make our own.
So, here it is…our very first own owl pillow!
We hope you like it, Jessy!
The making:
Get the match...

A Twin Black Cats Apron! 5th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
One of our readers wanted an apron done with four black cats. But we suggested two instead as four black cats would be very cluttered.
So, here it is:
My mum sewed the apron and I put in the frills at the bottom.
We hope the reader is happy with this apron.
Could you please check your email? Thank you!

Fattening Owls 5th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
Ming-Yi is at my mum’s house helping her to fatten the owls. Once we finish this batch of 12 owls, we will not be ordering the cloth anymore since we were shortchanged by the company.
Those who have ordered, I have already written to you and I hope you will respond soon so that we can fly the owls off to you!
Meanwhile, at home, I’m going to attempt to make our very own owl…
This is really good for the brain…

Updates On 5th Apr 2015 5th Apr 2015, by SPCA Singapore
It's the 2nd Easter Sunday ever for rabbit pair Ling-girl and Jing-girl in Catherine Chong's family (who adopted the bunnies exactly a year ago from SPCA, on Easter Sunday 2014!).
Though with differing personalities, both girls have become BFFs (Best (Furry) Friends Forever), and they groom each other, sleep together, eat together and even poo 2-gether! In any case, friends who play together stick together.
Thanks, Catherine and family, for giving Ling and Jing a forever home. Have a hippit...

Oh No, We’ve Been Ali-Baba-Ed! 5th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
The other day, due to my excitement at receiving the owl cloth, I forgot to open up and count. I had assumed the company would have sent me 16 owls as advertised and paid for.
It was only today that I counted and…oh no, they have only sent me 12 owls, not 16. No wonder, they must have compensated it by sending me the small owls….
Sigh…
I will be writing to the donors and ask if they would mind choosing other owls, because we now only have one of each of the following (and the...

Updates On 5th Apr 2015 5th Apr 2015, by SPCA Singapore
As we wish a Happy Easter to all, we urge caution in the giving of pet rabbits as presents expressly to commemorate Easter, many of which have become abandoned once the novelty has worn off.
Prospective adopters READY for the lifelong commitment to rabbits can take heart that there are many adoptable sweet, cuddly and loving rabbits looking for their forever homes.
These rabbits can be adopted from the SPCA and House Rabbit Society Singapore (HRSS).
(Our thanks to Nicole Lim, who adopted P...

IN LOVING MEMORY OF RAMBA
Today marks the 11th anniversary of Ramba's passing. Still missing her loads...
Ramba was the inspiration behind the setting up of ACRES in 2001 and the memories of the time I spent with her will always remain in my heart. Still and always thinking of you Ramba.
I've attached the story and poem I wrote 11 years ago.

KEEP THEM WILD AND FREE: LARGE PYTHONS
Giant snakes - such as the Burmese python and reticulated python - can grow to a length of 6 metres – the height of 4 humans! And they can weigh 200 pounds or more. They urinate and defecate as much as a horse does, and you can expect to be caring for them for more than 25 years – one quarter of your lifespan.
All too often, want-to-be owners purchase these large snakes, ignorant or in denial of the immense effort and financial outlay needed. Then, t...

Adopted Pitbull Detects Seizures 4th Apr 2015, by PetFinder.my
A recently adopted pit bull came with an unexpected perk: he can detect seizures. Danielle Zuckerman didn’t know that when she brought him home, but because her dog can give her a 15-minute warning before a seizure strikes, she can now make sure she is somewhere safe and take medication that shortens the episodes.
The former Navy nuclear scientist went to Sammie’s Friends Animal Shelter looking for a dog to be a companion for her son and herself, but ended up with something even better. ...

The “trouble” With Silent Movies 4th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
…is that it needs great actors (like Charlie Chaplin, for example) to convey the story accurately.
Or else, this is what happens when your actors are….cats.
This is “the other version” of the stories and yes, it comes from Jakarta (where Jia-Wen is currently stopping over at and he is definitely bored).
Note: Jia-Wen is partial to Team Bunny.
Have a happy weekend with your pets!!
An update for those who might not remember why the PatioCats is called Team Bird: http:/...

Rosie’s Day In The Kitchen And Vincent’s Raid 4th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
I’m bored…
Don’t you do anything interesting around here? Like…serve me some food, for example?
I guess not…
Wait…what’s happening outside? Food? Did someone say “food”, I thought this kitchen is the food-place?
Sniff, sniff…
Approach with caution…is there anything alive in there?
Check with paw first…
Hmm…
Not very interesting…it’s only some plant-food…yucks!
Humans don’t know what...

Preparing Smoothie Stock (the “Eat Less Meat” Campaign) 4th Apr 2015, by AnimalCare
This is part of our “Eat less meat” campaign.
Preparation for our meals and snacks for the next 2 weeks…
All gst-free!
Note: The kiwifruit skin is completely edible and makes this nutrient-dense fruit even more nutritious! A recent study shows that eating the skin triples the fiber intake compared to merely eating the flesh. And by not peeling the skin, you preserve much of the vitamin C content as well.
Freeze ‘em all and blend them when a smoothie is required.
