Our officer attended this reported case of a neglected pet poodle, only to find out the entire family is facing domestic problems and feeling very hopeless. We have engaged the welfare workers who are trying to help this family out, and at the same time we have forwarded this case to the DVS. We are advising the owners to surrender the dog so it can be rehomed in a family who have the time and means to care for the dog well. We will follow up with the DVS officers about this case, and we hope fo...

Yet another case reported to us about a dog that was left outside the compound without adequate shelter. Our officers have spoken to the owner, who says the house is under renovation. We have advised them to find a safe, sheltered area within the compound to relocate the dog, or get someone to care for the dog temporarily. We will monitor to see if any improvements made.

Official SPCA comment on the posts over the last 18 hours: A request was made by the owner in which the dog was housed. SPCA deliberately delayed the request and gave the owner time to think over before requesting euthanasia. A week later, the owner called to urgently have the dog taken to be euthanized as the dog was unmanageable. Furthermore, the dog has bitten a member of the family. A form to request for euthanasia was duly signed. We deem that the people staying in the house are the rig...

HEAT STROKE RISK HIGHER IN DOGS WITH BLACK FUR
It's true. Animals covered in dark colored fur are at greater risk of heat stroke. The darker fur absorbs more light (rather than reflecting it) and that light is converted into heat energy. A dark-furred pet will get hot much more quickly than one with lighter fur.
Overweight and short nosed breeds are also at greater risk during hot weather. Make sure to provide ample shade for your pets and enjoy most of your outdoor time together during the co...
