The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recently named animal cruelty as a “top-tier crime” in the US. Prosecution for animal cruelty, in the US, will be given more priority and those convicted will face harsher sentencing. Just last month, a California man was jailed for a year and ordered to undergo anger management counseling, for beating his pet poodle to death. He was also put on “four years' probation and barred from owning, living with or caring for any animal for 10 years". ...

Puppies need a foster home!
These three puppies were dumped in front of a house yesterday. The family who rescued them are trying to find a fosterer but in the mean time they have very generously paid for the puppies first two vaccinations. They're three months old and very healthy. They need to be fostered for two to four weeks, after which we can accept them into our center.

This bull calf named Salvador was rescued from a Chilean dairy farm where he was fated to be killed and sold as veal. An update on Chihuahua Pedro! His foster-turned-adoptive family has shared that Pedro is still himself, only better, and coping well (bonding with 2 cats in the home!). Thanks, AnneMarie Timmer-Chua and family, for giving Pedro a forever home he's never known!
And some things just don't change - see how Pedro still fusses over his possessions (a trait he has displayed when in our shelter's care).

Whilst roaming through the beautiful waters of the Southern Islands by boat, we passed a section of the sea filled with rubbish. It seemed as if the waves were trying to get rid to the litter by ‘sweeping’ the litter into one area, only to realise it can’t actually get rid of the mess. It was a truly sad sight.

In October 2009, WWF-Malaysia’s patrol team discovered this snared tiger after noticing two suspicious motorbikes in the area. Based on the severity of the wound inflicted by the snare, it was estimated that the tiger had been caught in the snare for more than one day. Although the tiger was saved and treated, it didn't survive the wound and stress, and died shortly after.
