Nanyang Junior College Runs Wild! On 15 August 2015 (Sat.), SPCA visited Nanyang Junior College for its annual “Wild Run”. Our Singapura Special, Ida, was there to walk alongside the students who brought along their own pets too, to show their support for the animal welfare cause. The students had even dressed up in onesies as their favourite furry friends, while on their run. We thank the kind students and staff of Nanyang Junior College for their generosity and for sharing the day with ou...

Indy Eats!
17th Aug 2015, by AnimalCare

Indy is not fully recovered yet…but he ate his wetfood on his own this morning!! Yayyy, Indy! It must be the dewormer or/and the antibiotics or whatever it is, we’ll never know, but we’re just so relieved Indy appears to be on the mend! One of these little lumps of yummy food contains the hidden half-tablet of antibiotics. It took some forcing, but I managed to get Indy to eat it. Bunny was on standby trying to help. In fact, Bunny was more than willing to help eat it too! ...

Indy And His “straitjacket”
16th Aug 2015, by AnimalCare

Since coming back from the vet, Indy had not regained his appetite. I’d learnt about the dangers of hepatic liver (or “fatty liver”) from a few vets before, so since Indy’s appetite hadn’t been good for a few days now and since yesterday, he had totally stopped eating except for the small amount being force-fed, I continued force-feeding him at regular intervals all day today. About hepatic lipidosis in cats: http://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/dig estive/c_ct...

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORDINARY AND EXTRAORDINARY IS PERSEVERANCE. This Sunday, we want to dedicate our volunteer post to all the unsung heroes who have been working with us tirelessly for the animals. These are the ones who have never been mentioned by name, nor their faces shown on this page. These are the ones who have soaked in sweat under the hottest sun, been drenched by the heaviest rains, taken all the mosquito bites silently, and carried out their tasks in the muddiest places. These ar...

Indy Goes To The Vet
16th Aug 2015, by AnimalCare

Indy started losing his appetite on Thursday. But since he was still very active, I thought maybe it was a self-limiting problem and I’d give it a few days to see if it can resolve itself. Indy is also rather fussy about food, preferring kibbles to canned food. But I have always given him both. He was turned off canned food on Thursday, but was still eating a bit of kibbles. He would ask for food, but upon sniffing the food, he’d turn away. But he is still very active (keeps asking ...

THANK YOU OPHELIA! For the past 3 months, the fundraising team had some extra help; and very good help at that! Meet Ophelia, a student who decided to spend her holidays not relaxing, but interning with ACRES! She has been a GREAT help for the team, helping with social media, donor relations, and our fundraising events! The ACRES family is small, so help from kind souls like Ophelia is much appreciated. And it wasn’t all work and no play! We had great fun with her, and we hope that she had...

Pups For Adoption At SPCA

SPCA has recently offered to help Second Chance rehome our pups through a weekend arrangement (there are just too many at the shelter at the moment and we are very thankful for this assistance from SPCA).We are to bring a few healthy pups (at least 1 vaccination) to their Ampang Centre on a Saturday and if the pups are not adopted, we bring them back on Sunday evening. So here we have 2-month-old Roy (the cream coloured) and Rosa (the black coloured) waiting at the SPCA Selangor, Jalan Kolam Air,...

DOG RESCUES GALAXY OF STRANDED STARFISH !!! On a tiny reef off the coast of Diani Beach in Kenya, a galaxy of starfish is about to kiss the sun. In the distance, a small, sandy dog named Princess begins cutting across the glassy surface of the Indian Ocean. Perched at the front of a wooden canoe, she's leading the race to bring the sea stars to deeper waters before it's too late. "We knew the tide would be at an all time low and at the hottest time of day so the reef would be extremely exposed...

Never Teach Cats To Facebook
15th Aug 2015, by PetFinder.my

So you think your cat is your friend, eh? Well, maybe, but not likely on Facebook. Give Kitty access to social media, and this is what happens. Trust us, there's only one reason your cat needs a Facebook account: to find adoptive homes for all his friends who need one. Here in Malaysia, we have a fabulous site where you (and your cat) can browse listings for adoptable pets -- http://PetFinder.my. Remember, adopt, don't buy. Your cat will like you for it. Really!
