APS CHALLENGE – HORTICULTURE FOR #ACRES
The Assumption Pathway School (APS) Challenge this year provided a platform for students to give back to the animal community. Students were tasked with creating terrariums, to be sold to to raise funds for ACRES.
In July this year, a group of APS educators volunteered at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC), helping with maintenance work and providing enrichment for the tortoises in our care. One month later, a group of APS students started their A...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP (PLUS ANIMAL VISITORS): 23 OCTOBER 2015
1. Buffy is an insectivorous bat who became stranded on the ground. Some insectivorous bat species are tiny and may be mistaken for baby bats who may need to be rescued. Buffy was found by a concerned member of the public, who kept her safe until we arrived. Thankfully, Buffy flew away once she was placed at a suitable height in a dark and quiet corner of the estate.
2. Cambridge is an adult common wolf snake who stayed st...

Cat Helps Doggy Friend Escape 23rd Oct 2015, by PetFinder.my
Cat Helps Doggy Friend Escape
Apparently cats can be quite selfless when they want to be.
This video shows a cat trying to help a little white pup sneak out through a small hole in a wall. At first, the dog desperately tries to push himself through the hole, but seems either too afraid or too big to get through.
But the cat's having none of it. She slips through the hole herself, and a few seconds later the dog pops out, apparently encouraged by his feline friend's example.
It's unclear whet...

A Halloween-Kitty Comes A-Visiting 23rd Oct 2015, by AnimalCare
This morning, I spotted a jet-black kitten walking at the playground. She was actually walking in the direction towards our house but soon disappeared. She did look rather small and I’ve not seen her before.
Then, this evening, as we were about to go out, would you believe it? The same black kitty was already at our front door. It looked like she had confidently come into our house compound and the PatioCats allowed her in.
Here she is.
I’m guessing she’s female, but I r...

Meet Serene. She came in with her brother Samuel, they were very sick. Luckily, one of our fosterers took them in and nursed them back to health! Samuel has since been adopted, and Serene is waiting for her lucky day to go home!
She is cheeky and loving. Approximately 4 months old, vaccinated and dewormed!

SPCA, EMAS and Traffic Police jointly rescue a dog in distress from the PIE
In early October 2015, we were alerted to a dog sighted on the central divider of the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) near Corporation Road, at about noon.
SPCA’s rescuer, YaoHuang, promptly arrived on the scene to find the dog, a Cross-German Shepherd with a suspected leg injury, scurrying across the divider to the road leading towards Tuas. As we would have to cordon off the relevant part of the expressway from oncom...
