Hearts Aligned
Owning a dog could benefit your mental health.
Pedigree Australia has released a video in which dog owners and their pups have their heart rates monitored to see what kinds of effects they have on one another, and the video shows that when humans and hounds are around each another both species’ heartbeats have a nice, calm rhythm. But it this all just a shaggy dog story?
“Although the video only showed a few instances of synchronous heart rates between owners and their dogs...

IN MEMORY OF SPECKY
Remember Specky? We started off the year with a post on how the 15 year old Jack Russell Terrier was doing after being adopted by his new family. https://www.facebook.com/spcasingapore/posts/10153 464769108155
We were informed by his owner, Geraldine, that the sweet boy crossed the rainbow bridge on 5 April 2016.

Staring Into Nothingness 18th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Have you ever wondered why cats can sit for long hours, just staring into nothingness?
Like so.
I don’t mean sleeping. Sleeping is sleeping.
I mean, like this. Just sitting and staring into nothingness. For hours.
Indy says humans try so hard to learn this thing called “meditation” by attending classes and so on and so forth, but cats….cats are meditating all the time. They are ever so mindful and alert.
Cats are not addicted to distractions – they don’t...

We have sponsored RM200 for the spaying of 2 female cats.
The vet (from Mentakab) sent these photos:
Mdm Ngoo sent the photo below and explained that it wasn’t easy getting transportation to take the cats from Jerantut to Mentakab for the spaying procedure. She had to use a bag (for the cats) and take the bus.
On two occasions several years ago, we managed to arrange for a vet from the Klang Valley to travel down to Jerantut to get many of Mdm Ngoo’s cats neutered (also sponsored ...

Authorities To Step Up Enforcement To Prevent The Release Of Animals Into The Wild 18th May 2016, by SPCA Singapore
REFRAIN FROM RELEASING ANIMALS ON VESAK DAY
Do you know that in Singapore, it is against the law to release any animal into our public parks, reservoirs, nature reserves and other places? Many people do not realise that these animals are unlikely to survive in natural habitats and may even threaten to affect the ecological balance of the environment that they are released into.
Releasing animals into the wild will do them more harm than good.
Do your part to demonstrate compassion for anima...

A New Visitor Tries His Luck 18th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Was it due to the “vacuum” created when Heidi went missing-in-action for half a day, or was it purely coincidental?
A new cat entered our house compound last night and made himself (I’m assuming he’s a he) very comfortable in the porch.
The surprising thing is that Ginger and Vincent just let him be and did not chase him out.
I heard some unusual noise in the porch and went out to look. The new cat looked a lot like Vincent but seemed to be lighter in colour. I’m n...

5 Bags For Fundraising 18th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Many thanks to ISKL Grade Two Team (15/16) for ordering 5 of our bags as gifts for parents of their school! Thank you very much for the kind donation of RM50 per bag!
The mustard-coloured upholstery cloth is donated by Janet.
The price of canvas has gone up considerably since last year and it is also very difficult to get supply nowadays, so we will make use of whatever that is donated to us. We do, however, have just enough canvas to make three more bags, and these three have been booked...

Updates On 17th May 2016 17th May 2016, by SPCA Sarawak
PLEASE NEUTER YOUR PET!
They multiply too fast!
YOU can help solve the overpopulation problem.
Over the years, animal organizations and councils have collected and put down hundreds of thousands of stray dogs and cats simply because suitable homes are not found for them. Therefore, we take every initiative to encourage pet owners to bring their pets to be neutered or desexed to stop the multiplication. In a single dog's life, it can multiply to more than 5000 within it's lifetime!
We congratu...

Dog Vs. Cat: Drinking Habits 17th May 2016, by PetFinder.my
Dog vs. Cat: Drinking Habits
Sam and Si, the two genius videographers at BBC's Earth Unplugged, take a good, long, slow-motion look at how cats and dogs drink. (Their drinking methods are strikingly different from each other!) So to whom would you grant the Heavy Drinking Award -- the dog or the cat?
This is also a great time to remind you that your pets need a steady supply of clean drinking water at all times -- especially on the hottest days. If you'd like to adopt a skilled drinker of ...
