Bunny’s First Home Subcut 28th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
Jia-Wen helped me with Bunny’s first home subcut this morning.
I didn’t know what to expect, but I know Bunny is very strong, so it was wise to have someone help.
I used Vincent’s favourite minky cloth again, prepared the kit and brought Bunny up.
This time, I decided we’ll do it higher up and not at the flanks.
Pinched the skin, and poked….and poked….and poked….my goodness, Bunny’s skin is like some sort of leathery “hide”. It was S...

Kidney Diets For Cats (holistic Recommendations) 28th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
When Vincent was diagnosed with last stage kidney failure in July 2018, I was also at a loss on what would be the best diet for him. Of course vets recommended the prescription diet, but here’s the thing: Vincent was a very strong-willed cat. There was no way I could force him to eat whatever he did not want.
So, I decided to respect Vincent’s food choices. Vincent chose raw food. It was also partly due to his terrible mouth ulcers where he could only eat raw chicken fillet and raw l...

Kidney Diets For Cats (conventional Recommendation) 28th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
I am still researching kidney diets for cats and would highly appreciate any sharing from anyone who has achieved success with their kidney cats. Or, if you have done extensive research on such diets, please do share.
Here are two articles which talk about what most conventional vets would recommend. After this post, I will share three other articles that recommend more holistic diets.

Feeding Time!! 28th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
For the Cow Clan.
Indy’s appetite is still not very good. But Indy has always been a kibble-king. Sometimes, he will walk away from his food and all it takes would be a sprinkle of kibble onto the wetfood, and that does it – he will eat. However, he did not eat much today. He is supposed to be on ID for the diarrhoea.

Oh Oh….Cow Took Off His Cow-Collar! 28th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
Last night, I was already worried that Cow might break out of his cow-collar.
After all, when he was very little (maybe about 1-2 years old), he had a large fight wound on his flank. We took him to get it stitched up; it was done and he was put on the plastic e-collar. I would admit that at that time, I may not have fixed the e-collar properly. Cow broke out of the collar and bit all all the stitches and walked around nonchalantly with the open wound, skin flapping. It did not bother him at all....

Our Super Tahan Lasak Cow Mau 27th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
Cow had supper just now and I’m so glad his appetite is good despite the extraction and 3 stitches.
Our truly super tahan lasak Cow Mau!
So much has happened in these few days and I’ll need some time to consolidate everything so that we know how to go forward from here.
Let me just summarise the important things here:
Cow Mau – FIV+ but no kidney issues at the moment. Bad teeth extracted, scaling done, has the cleanest teeth in the clan now!
Bunny – known FIV+. Has early...

Indy’s SDMA Test Results 27th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
So, I took Indy to the clinic. Everyone of our cats have already entered the geriatric stage now (7 years and above), so everyone needs a full bloodwork.
I knew Indy has to be next because he has had many medical issues in the past. He also has a gum problem (with bad breath quite often), so I won’t be surprised if he already has medical issues.
I bought a new carrier so that I could take Indy.
A few minutes before we reached the clinic, it poured. Ah, bad timing. Luckily I had a raincoa...

Cow Is Home!! (with 2 Teeth Extracted) 27th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy and I drove to the clinic and we reached before 4pm. It was raining heavily. Luckily I had a raincoat, but we parked a bit far, so by the time I got to the clinic, my sports shoes were soaking wet. Luckily Indy was the carrier, so he did not get wet at all.
I will write about Indy’s examination in a later post.
The vet assistant said Cow was already waking up!
I was so relieved!!!
Hi Cow!!!! He was still a bit groggy.
Two teeth were extracted – the confirmed very rotten ...

Waiting With Cow 27th Mar 2019, by AnimalCare
Our appointment was at 11.30am.
Luckily Jia-Wen hadn’t gone to work yet. It was quite difficult loading Cow into the carrier. He protested and clawed. It took two of us to load him in.
The trip there started with mewing at a constant interval, but Cow soon settled down. The journey took about half an hour. Traffic was heavy in certain parts.
Cow was placed in a cubicle after we arrived, but since he looked so scared, I decided I’d just hold him.
Soon, it was time to put in the IV p...
