Did you know that a turtle's shell is made up of tough keratin, which is the same protein that makes up our nails?
Hard-shelled turtles, such as the river terrapins, box turtles, and Asian brown tortoises rely on their shells for protection. They are able to retract their head and neck into their shell to avoid being eaten by their predators.

⚠Graphic Images ⚠This is sweet Naihua. He was the victim of terrible abuse and was rushed to our shelter with a big open wound on his right ear. A local resident told us he was scalded with hot water 😱😱. This poor boy must have been in such unbearable pain. His ear was severely damaged and he was absolutely terrified.
