It is not wrong to rehome your pet when you are truly no longer able to take care of him/her. Better rehome than dump. However, it is important how you go about it. Yesterday someone sent us a private message seeking urgent rehoming of their uncle's pet dog Terry. The reasons given were valid enough - Terry's owner and his daughter - were gravely ill and cannot take care of the active young dog anymore.
