Bunny’s Back To Normal!
20th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Eating serai this morning. https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/uplo ads/2019/04/c-video.mp4 It has taken SIX days for him to be back to normal. Eating… ….and finishing other people’s food. Yes, we are back to normal…finally! Welcome back to being The Bunz! Tomorrow, subcut. Meanwhile, Indy has gone totally wacko. He is dashing in and out of the room and spraying bigtime on the door. Since I’ve been here at my desk, I think he has sprayed no less than 7 time...

Is There An FIP Cure On The Horizon?
20th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

The article: https://www.petmd.com/news/health-sc ience/experimental-fip-treatments-show-promise-aff ected-cats-34629 We don’t have PI in Malaysia. Polyprenyl Immunostimulant (PI) is an investigational biologic used to lessen clinical signs associated with herpes virus infections in cats by promoting immune responses to the virus. PI also has been used to treat FIP. In a small study, three cats with the dry form of FIP were treated with PI. Two cats were alive and still receiving trea...

The Bench “problem” And “stink” Stories
20th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

It’s always been a problem…for more than seven years already. Ever since we bought it. We bought this beautiful teak bench for the cats when we first moved in. But soon enough, it became a target of spraying by the alpha-amigos, Cow, Bunny and Indy. You can imagine how difficult it was to wipe the bench with urine seeping into the gaps and over time, surely the acidity of the urine would spoil the wood too. So I covered it with bedsheets and have been doing this for seven years now...

The Other “patients” And The Other Stories
20th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/0 4/1-video.mp4 This is Ginger’s daily routine – the whining. And the dim sum. I did ask the vet intern yesterday why Ginger is obese thought he eats “little”. We finally concluded that maybe it is because Ginger is not active. He doesn’t run around much unless he escapes, then he will chase the outside cats and will be really fast (Usain Bolt might not even be able to do Ginger’s short sprints). On another not...

Managing Mr Zurik And An Informative FAQ On FIP
20th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

I thought I’d write a separate post on Zurik here, in case anyone is following his story. Zurik ate three breakfasts this morning but they were all small meals. It looks like he likes Ginger’s idea of “dim sum”! Well, anything for Zurik, especially when he is able to eat. Zurik doesn’t mind tablets (wrapped in bread), but it looks like he HATES liquids being syringed into his mouth. I cannot risk putting the liquid into his food because the mere smell of it might m...

Zurik Starts On RetroMAD1
19th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Last night, Zurik started on RetroMAD1, the anti-viral that was experimental many years ago. It was my friend, Agnes, who reminded me that RetroMAD1 might be worth a try, so I contacted my friend, Anita, who recently bought 3 bottles of RetroMAD1 for her cat, to ask from where I could purchase them. Anita immediately offered her two remaining bottles. Sadly, her cat did not make it so she does not need the two bottles now. I know that RetroMAD1 was being used for parvovirus, FIV and FeLV but I d...

Ginger’s A-Okay…so Far
19th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Truly, every cat reacts differently after surgery. So very differently! Look at super manja-pot Ginger… We thought he’d be the “worst” as in he’d surely be whining for attention and complaining of pain, but no. None of that happened at all. Look at the e-collar…haha.  Isn’t this too cute? It’s supposed to be like this, Ginger! Eating, like everyone else. Like normal. Surgery? Four stitches? Where?? I just wonder if he’ll need the e...

Ginger’s Back Home…..with Two Teeth Extracted!
19th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Today was Ginger’s turn. This was after he was put on drips, before surgery. He wasn’t frightened like Cow or Bunny (who was terrified). Ginger was as cool as a cucumber, looking around curiously. This is after the surgery – totally wide awake and curious. Probably saying, “Hmm….why am I here? Did anything happen?” The vet intern said, “Ginger is a chill cat!”.  Haha….he is, he is! Two teeth extracted. Actually, only one rotten one ...

Zurik Is Strong!
19th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

I guess Zurik has regained his strength now (which is good). He has becoming quite choosy with food too, something which I’m learning now. Previously, as you know, he only came for meals 2-3 times a day and would disappear after that. He does like to sit under our cars in the porch and also the shoe rack.  Other than that, he would be in his roof sanctuary. Now (as in currently), he likes to eat raw chicken fillet. He won’t eat Cubgrub, just raw cut-up chicken fillet. I’ll...

Fragile – Jaga Dengan Cermat
19th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

In the midst of handling Bunny, Indy, Ginger and Zurik on a daily basis, isn’t it a welcomed break to see this? Fragile, she certainly is NOT.  But “jaga dengan cermat” – always! You really got to KNOW Heidi to love Heidi. She is very adorable in our books. Yes, she whacks people when they pass by her space, but hey, everyone is entitled to some idiosyncracies, right?

It’s Ginger’s Turn Today
19th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

For a few days now, Ginger has been occupying the “sick bay”. I prepared this for Bunny with fresh towels but Bunny only used it for one night. Then, Ginger quickly took over. We think it’s a territorial thing, or is it because he knows he is going in for a dental procedure and might need to be in the “sick bay”.  We will never know what cats know or how much they actually “know”. I got up at 5am today to make sure Ginger is fed by 5.30am because ...

Indy Goes A Bit “cranky”
18th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

After this morning’s subcut, Indy has been behaving a been crankily all day. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the subcut… https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content /uploads/2019/04/1-WhatsApp-Video-2019-04-18-at-16 .58.48.mp4 He is trying to attack Pole here. She’s hiding under the bed because Indy chased her. I can see you, Pole. You can run but you cannot hide.  That happened in the afternoon. Then, just a few minutes ago, this happened… https://myanimalcare.o...

Zurik’s Test Results – It IS FIP
18th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

All my hopes are dashed now.  The Rivalta test was positive, which means there is an 86% chance that it is FIP.  Coupled with the pleural effusion where the liquid is yellow and sticky, the positive corona virus test on the blood and the ALB/GLOB ratio being 0.5, it all points towards FIP. My last hope was the Rivalta test. I had hoped it would be negative, but it isn’t. It’s positive. There was a small blob which shows the presence of exudate protein. The protein level in ...
