Pole Is…..A-Okay!
30th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

I really hope so…. Yesterday, my friend, Cathy, came over and she brought some treats for the cats. These were treats from iherb.com. There was a chicken treat, a rabbit treat and a fish treat.  The cats only liked the chicken treat. So Bunny ate up everything that was left behind! I think it was the chicken treat that stimulated Pole’s appetite again. She loved the treats and right after that, she asked her normal food! This morning, I rewarded her with the chicken treat again...

Brothers United
30th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Cow’s anger management problem seems to have dissipated now. He is much calmer and allows prolonged petting. The petting aggression is also gone. Since his infant days, Cow had taken upon myself to protect Bunny and Pole. His duty continues until today, unwaveringly. He is totally resolute and committed to looking after his siblings, especially Bunny. Cow has the loyalty of a dog.

How Cow Drinks Water And More Stories Of The Aftermath Of “The Wall”!
30th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Here’s how… https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/up loads/2019/04/WhatsApp-Video-2019-04-29-at-23.23.3 1.mp4 Cow is SO happy these days because he gets to come into the room (after we tore down “The Wall”). He is also very well-behaved. It’s Indy and Bunny who are competing by spraying on the polycarb at the door, one after another. I haven’t seen Cow spray, actually! Indy sprays the most these days. It’s like he has a “spare bladder” for th...

Is Pole Finally Okay Yet?
29th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

You might remember that Pole had a vomiting problem which started four days ago when I gave all of them a different brand of fish oil (yes, my fault, I shouldn’t have changed the brand). Ever since then, she has not gone back to 100% yet. I was monitoring her all day yesterday and there was no more vomiting. However, she still did not eat as much as she normally does. This afternoon, she vomited at two spots, but it was just very small amounts and it was the white froth. I texted her vet ...

Heidi Bullies Zurik
29th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

What started off as playing has now become a case of bullying. I have caught Heidi whacking Zurik at least two times so far. And on each occasion, I told Heidi off. Today, Jia-Wen witnessed it all. Zurik was sleeping on the sofa minding his own business. Heidi came, walked over to the sofa, put her two paws up and whacked Zurik, giving him a shock of his life (Zurik was sleeping). Zurik then came down and fluffed himself up. Poor Zurik no longer fights now; his fighting days are over. He isn&rsq...

28th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Little Wonders Cafe is our go-to diner when we want 5-star meals served with the warmest hospitality, so near to home, at the most reasonable prices. Today, there were 18 of us. It was a small family get-together with 13 adults and 3 young children. The chef prepared a special vegetarian dish for my mum and two fruit salad which isn’t on the menu, by special request. My mum said it was absolutely delicious. Their service has a very personal touch. When I requested a small salad for myself ...

Animal “shelter” Or Animal “hoarding”?
28th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

The sad news: https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/law -and-crime/article/3007965/decomposing-bodies-dogs -and-cats-found-new-territories In our experience, we have encountered a few cases of hoarding before. The animals were in dire straits and yet the caregiver/hoarder still thought that he/she was giving them the best and that no other person can do better than he/she. Hoarding is a mental disease and the animals are the victims. Sometimes, the caregiver starts off with good intentions, b...

Solid Gold Superfood For Zurik And Everyone!
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

I was looking for a high protein kibble for Zurik (since he loves kibble so much). Coincidentally, Ecopet Sdn Bhd (sister company of Avant Pet) just brought in their latest product from the USA, Solid Gold. Website: https://www.solidgoldpet.com/ The question isn’t “what is Solid Gold,” it’s “who is Solid Gold.” Solid Gold is a group of animal lovers, explorers, and nutritionists who want to give their pets the best. Our pets give so much to us so we&rsqu...

Cat Tunnels For The Cats!
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Seeing how Heidi loves the laundry basket, we decided to buy cat tunnels from Ikea today! Also, Ginger needs to exercise so we are hoping he will play in the tunnels. Heidi was the first to try out the tunnel. She wasn’t scared. She ran in and came out, and sped off into her safehouse! Ginger had to check it out first. On the outside. Tabs didn’t dare go in. What if it’s a trap?? Finally Ginger went in. We bought two – one for the Cow Clan and one for the Blanket Cats...

Zurik Plays With Heidi
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Heidi is an old cat, but she still loves to play. Very often, she plays with Tabs. But since Tabs is a timid cat and Heidi can play rough, Tabs is often scared of Heidi. Lately, Heidi has been playing inside our laundry basket. She loves going inside to scratch, roll about, then run off and hide in her safehouse (the blue carrier, which is hers). Who would know that his simple laundry basket can be such a source of joy for Heidi’s playtime?!! Zurik played with her today. Heidi’s r...

Zurik’s Blunt Teeth And Still More On FIP
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Zurik has “blunt” teeth.  You’d think that is less dangerous, but it isn’t necessarily so. He can inflict blunt force trauma on me when I feed him his medicines! But I suppose blunt force trauma is less painful than sharp teeth injury!! There is less likelihood of puncture wounds which warrant a tetanus shot! It was a good reminder for me to read from the catvirus.com page that raw meat is good for FIP cats. So I will offer Zurik some raw meat at the start of his me...

Debunking The Myth Of L-Lysine Benefits For Cats
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

“Cats with FIP, those that have been exposed to and have the coronavirus and those who are at risk of developing FIP should never be given L–lysine. The reason is clear. Arginine is necessary for a good, healthy immune system. As explained, L–lysine prevents arginine from being taken up in the body.” The article: http://fipcaregroup.com/pages/l-lysi ne-FIP-cats.html There are certain buzz words in the feline community, and one of t...

Zurik’s Saliva-Spitting Technique And More About FIP
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Every day, after medicines, Zurik will ask for a reward from the kitchen. His reward is Cindy’s Salmon Recipe (with chicken) kibble. This is his current favourite kibble. He eats raw chicken fillet for breakfast. Zurik has also perfected a saliva-spitting technique because he hates having liquids syringed into his mouth. Here is how he does it: The moment he knows I am going to syringe in either RetroMAD1 or Vetri DMG, he accumulates saliva in his mouth. Then, when I syringe in the liquid...

Pole’s Vomiting Problem
27th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Pole vomited many times yesterday. I think it could be due to a different brand of fish oil that I tried out with wetfood. After eating that, she vomited no less than 10 times, but initially, it was the food she had eaten, then followed by many rounds of small amounts of whitish bile. It did not look serious enough to warrant a trip to the vet’s. Knowing Pole, she would be totally freaked out of a car trip and that itself could do more harm than good. By night time, she asked for food, but...

Mr Zurik’s News
26th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Zurik is on twice-day steroids now, but still within the anti-inflammatory dosage. We can only hope that this will reduce the inflammation and thus, reduce the effusion. As explained by the vet, his body will adjust and get used to the fluids in the lung cavity. So it will appear that he can breathe “quite well” but this doesn’t mean that the lung cavity isn’t filling up. As evidenced by Wednesdays’ aspiration, there was 90ml of very thick yellow fluids pulled out. ...

The Alpha-Amigos
26th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

Bunny can sleep for HOURS in the same position. But nothing beats sleeping on someone for the warmth. When I’m in the room, he will sleep on my lap. And he is heavy, so pins and needles will surely follow! Indy seldom gets the wooden chair these days. The group dynamics have changed ever since “The Wall” came down and Cow and Bunny have free access to the room again. This is Cow’ Jabba-the-Hut pose. Cow’s afternoon nap. I did Indy’s subcut singlehandedl...

Eggs, Zurik?
24th Apr 2019, by AnimalCare

I scrambled an organic egg with butter, for Zurik. Let’s hope he eats it. If he does, it would be so easy to make this for him daily. But no. Zurik sniffed at it and walked OVER it. Eggs? You expect me to eat eggs? I’m a descendant of the tiger. I don’t eat eggs! But Heidi does, and so does Cleo. It’s okay, Zuzu, we will give you meat protein. As what your tiger instincts prefer.
