Updates from Devakie:Dr. Chan,Just to give you a small update on the abandoned dogs at Bayan Lepas. We managed to catch 4 females to be spayed on Monday (18.04.2011) with the help of a resident. They were boarded at the vet to recuperate from the surgery. On the same evening, 2 male dogs were taken by Ms. Jong to her shelter just to try out how they behave. They were reported to be doing well and socialising with the others there and at least they are getting a hearty meal from now on. Today (20...

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/04/yb-hannah-yeoh -replies.htmlThere's no enforcement on muzzling the dogs. Only requirement when walking the dog is to use a leash. Also, from my conversation with Dr Roslan, he denied telling the reporter that we actually are going around looking for the banned dogs, that's not being done.Rajiv Rishyakaran

Of Muzzles, Banned Breeds And....other Things
20th Apr 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/04/yb-hannah-yeoh -replies.htmlMy friend has these to share:Muzzling a dog:The muzzle is used by vets when handling a snappy dog, not for dogs out on a walk.  The muzzle makes it difficult for the dog to breathe properly and is unnatural and stressful as well.  All dogs cool down their body by breathing through their mouth and by muzzling those dogs while out on the leash is not only cruel, it can cause the dog to go into heat stroke and ultim...

Another wonderful piece from Mrs Wong:With all of the tragic news about animals out there, it's nice to be able to share this uplifting story that shows the positive side of human nature. A teacher in Serbia came to the aid of 500 homeless dogs and puppies that had been fending for themselves at an animal shelter after their caretaker died tragically in a house fire.PETA reported last week that a teacher from the Backa Topola region of Serbia contacted their office in the United States to ask fo...

A Mother And 3 Kittens, Dumped
19th Apr 2011, by AnimalCare

One of our panel vets called me this afternoon.  A lady by the name of Lillian had brought a mother-cat and 3 kittens to the clinic, asking for help in spaying the mother-cat and getting the kittens adopted. I said we'll pay for the spaying of the mother if the vet feels she is fit enough to be spayed. Apparently, someone had dumped the poor mother and her 3 kittens in front of Lillian's house. The mother-cat.  She is practically skin and bones.  Poor thing.  I could see her ...

An Appeal To The ADUN Of Subang Jaya
19th Apr 2011, by AnimalCare

I have just sent this email to YB Hannah Yeoh:Dear YB Hannah,As a resident of Subang Jaya, I am very disturbed by this news: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/04/what-shame.htm lIt is not the fault of the dogs that they exist or have been brought into the country. It is the fault of the humans, and perhaps, even the immigration officers who allowed them to be brought in in the first place. Confiscation would probably mean the dogs would be put down. Killing is never the answer to solving any prob...
