Panda And Ice-Cream, Vaccinated And Dewormed 7th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Joanne (Horsey's rescuer) brought two puppies from the colony at the factory site where she works to our panel vet for a check-up today. According to the vet, both Panda and Ice-Cream (that's their names) are still too young to be spayed, so, they were vaccinated and dewormed. They would be ready for spaying, probably next month. Having their meal at the factory.Panda at the vet's today.Ice-CreamPreviously, we did not have enough funds to cover vaccinations, but now (thanks to ...

Ginger's Updates 7th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Ginger is an elderly cat, rescued by Alex from the street in her neighbourhood. Currently, Ginger is being treated for mange (which looked real bad three weeks ago). Ginger was also skin-and-bones when first brought in, which suggests more underlying problems, but Alex would like to do everything reasonably possible to give Ginger a comfortable life. Alex has adopted Ginger, and we are helping with the costs of the medical treatment. Ginger is also long-haired, which sugg...

Clarification: Helping Needy Rescuers 6th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Helping needy rescuers with money or food donation is not actually within the mission of AnimalCare as our resources are very limited and we can only focus on providing medical help (spay-neuter and medical treatment) for stray animals, especially to needy smalltime rescuers who face a financial burden in settling vet bills for their rescues. Within these two years, I have, on my own initiative, raised funds to help rescuers like Meiji, Phaik Imm and recently, Susan, in areas other than sp...

Mr & Mrs Yuen, Angels To The Voiceless And The Helpless 6th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Mr Yuen contacted me sometime last year, to ask for assistance in the spaying of some dogs. He only managed to bring one dog to our panel vet, after which I had not heard from him again. Recently, through the help of Agnes and Sumitra, we were in contact again and we sponsored the spaying of a few cats under the care of Mr & Mrs Yuen. Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/03/3-cats-spayed- neutered-and-up-for.htmlThe Yuens have been looking after many (close to a hundred!) ...

Updates On The Semenyih Kitten (now Named Raka) 6th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/04/cat-sos-at-mid night.htmlHere's one happy story to start off your morning...Jess contacted me with an S.O.S. a few weeks back. She had rescued this little kitten but she knew her parents would not allow her to keep him. Jess found a fosterer in Semenyih but had to drive all the way there at midnight. I told her it was really unsafe for a young girl to drive all the way on that lonely road with only a GPS and at a most unearthly hour...

Updates On Buzz 6th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/04/buzz-cat-with- diaphragmatic-hernia.htmlBuzz was found to have diaphragmatic hernia about two weeks ago. Since she was only rescued about two weeks prior to the check-up, there was a chance she might be pregnant. If so, surgery would have been absolutely necessary as delivery of her babies would cause more organs to be pushed into the chest cavity, resulting in almost-certain death. An X-Ray revealed that she was probab...

Mrs Lim's Dog Spayed 5th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Mrs Lim contacted me about 2-3 months ago about getting this female dog whom she's been feeding spayed. The dog was sent to our panel vet and found to be pregnant so we had to delay the spaying.Last week she called to say the dog had already delivered and is ready to be spayed now. The dog was quite nervous when brought to the clinic this morning. She was obviously very scared. Two vets had to hold her down, and quickly sedate her and the surgery was performed immediately. ...

Aini And Her Cats 5th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Aini is a cat-rescuer from USJ. She contacted me last week to ask if we could help with the spaying of the female stray cats under her care. I told her we would help get her cats spayed in batches of two per day. This is done so that it would not tax on our panel vets so much. We have to respect the fact that our vets run their own practice and cannot be doing so many of our cases each day. So, Aini brought two cats today. Both were spayed under our s...

The 3:3:3:1 Ratio In Helping Animals 5th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Here's sharing something else that I've learnt recently, which I think, makes sense and might be useful for us to consider. Many rescuers have their own thoughts and beliefs about how best to help animals. I think the opinion below, which I learnt from a vet, makes a lot of sense. There is this 3:3:3:1 ratio involved when it comes to helping animals.30% - what the vet can do.30% - what the caregiver can do (and this includes lots of love and tender loving care).30% - what medicine can do.10%...

Of Miracle Drugs For Humans And Animals 4th May 2011, by AnimalCare
Thought it might be useful to share this with all of you. I learnt this from a vet today.Vets, being people of science, normally prefer to adhere to research-tested medicines. However, currently, there is a whole industry of "miracle drugs", for humans as well as animals and it is practically revolutionising the whole world of medicine. These miracle drugs are usually founded upon testimonies from users and not properly-conducted research. Having said that, it does not me...
