Amber Will Be Starting Treatment This Evening
12th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/05/updates-on-amb er.htmlI know many of you are very concerned about Amber so this update is necessary. Krystal and her husband, Simon, collected the cage yesterday evening and will send Amber to the vet's this evening, if they can make it after work.  With the unpredictable after-work traffic jams, this could prove to be a mean task.    The TVT medication has arrived (most vets don't keep stock) and everything is ready for Amber now.&nbs...

Male Kitten Neutered (in Melaka!)
11th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Qiang Qiang is one of the stray kittens fed by Catherina Tay who hails from Melaka.  Yes, the same Catherina who also looks after Jackie, the little kitten who had wandered into an abandoned shoplot last month, remember?  We all sure learnt a lot from this case - who we could write to, who has the authority to help, etc.  Btw, Jackie is fine.  Catherina got Qiang Qiang neutered at the vet's in Melaka and has applied for our subsidy (If it's not our panel vet, we only sub...

11th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Today, we sponsored the spaying of two more of Aini's female cats.  Aini feeds many stray cats around her house.  The photos are blurry.  Aini doesn't have a camera-phone and has to depend on a friend.  I was running around all day and had no time to visit the clinic. But the cats have been spayed and are now home with Aini.

Goodbye AnimalCare...
11th May 2011, by AnimalCare

After two years of doing all that we can in extending our help to stray animals and their rescuers, it is now time for us to say Goodbye and move on...In these two years, we have been privileged to help a total of 987 animals in the areas of sponsoring free spay-neuter, subsidised medical treatment and publicising animals for adoption through the blog. We have also raised funds for needy rescuers, done some food donations and even dabbled a little in some "rescue" (that's just taking dogs out of...

Working Together For Amber
11th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Krystal was waiting for the loan of a cage before she could bring Amber for boarding and subsequent treatment at our panel clinic.  I had told her a 2ft X 3 ft cage should be able to fit right into any MyVi, but not her bigger cage (that's why she needed the two boys to bring their pick-up the last time). Mary has already raised donations from amongst her friends to pay for Amber's boarding while undergoing treatment at the clinic.Yesterday, another friend donated some money to pay for Ambe...

The Feline Art Of War
11th May 2011, by AnimalCare

My family alerted me to this late last night as I was still busy doing the tshirt accounting in my room, in between typing lecture notes for a new semester AND replying emails!  Apparently, there was an impending feline war outside in the living room.Come quickly, come and watch, they said. Tiger had just come through the window, back from a midnight stroll, and the two alphas, Cow and Bunny, decided to "have some fun", staking out an ambush on Tiger, from both sides.Tiger is currently...

10th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Steffie and Mrs Chong sent Boy Boy, a rescued stray whom they have adopted, to be neutered under our sponsorship yesterday.  Boy Boy was quite fierce and growling all the time while at the clinic until he had to be muzzled and quickly sedated to undergo immediate surgery.Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/05/boy-boy-neuter ed.htmlWell, Boy Boy recovered quickly and Steffie just sent a photo of him and wrote this:This is Boy Boy’s latest picture. Ginger's Last Mange Jab
10th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Alex brought Ginger for her last mange jab today.  Our vet had asked Alex to keep a record of Ginger's water consumption for a week.  This, Alex did.  From the daily amounts of water consumed, the vet did some calculations and based on the fact that Ginger consumes double of amount of water of a normal cat's, the vet suspects Ginger may have either diabetes or kidney problems, the latter being of a higher probability. The next thing to do now would be to bring a sample of Ginger's ...

10th May 2011, by AnimalCare

This is a request from Jamie Khoo:This is Toby. He's been a resident at a condominium compound for over a year. A few kind residents feed him (along with 4-5 other cats) almost on a daily basis. On 2 May, he was discovered hobbling about on only three legs and was immediately taken to an animal hospital for medical attention.Xrays showed no fracture but inflammation and abscess from a bite wound. The wound has been surgically cleaned and he is recovering very well. He is also currently being tre...

What Mary Did....for Amber
9th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/05/amber-emciated -dog-has-tvt.htmlAs a follow-up to Amber's case (she has severe TVT and requires the chemotherapy injections), Krystal had requested for a fosterer and transport for Amber.  Currently, Krystal cannot foster or confine Amber (a dog) in her house compound because Amber's presence scares her cats. However, Amber has TVT and should not be allowed to roam at all.  TVT spreads through contact, and it is a cancer that kills, if not treat...

9th May 2011, by AnimalCare

The stocks have finally arrived!!Been waiting all day for this.  Drove to the supplier, loaded my little Kelisa with 7 boxes of tshirts and brought them home.  Then, I found that the "Ladies" labels had fallen off, so I had to open up each pack and check which are the Ladies', buy masking tape and label every single piece.  Lots of behind-the-scenes work, as always, before we can start selling.  It's a labour of love.  Jia-Wen decided to help.  He's wearing my ...

Steffie's family has adopted Boy Boy already and he has been with them for 2 months now.  I took off from work to meet Boy Boy at the clinic today, for his neutering.Boy Boy was quite aggressive and refused to enter the clinic!  He knows....While he was at the clinic, he was also growling non-sto...

Suhaida's Kitten Spayed
9th May 2011, by AnimalCare

Updates:  I have just been informed that this spaying has been postponed because just prior to it, the kitten had diarhoea.  Nor Suhaida, a worker at FRIM, wrote to me last week, requesting help for a female kitten, estimated to be about 6 months of age, who was thrown in front of her house.  Suhaida would love to adopt the kitten but was worried that she (the kitten) would eventually breed and she won't have the financial resources to look after so many! With the help of her colle...

Happy Mother's Day!
8th May 2011, by AnimalCare

As we humans celebrate Mother's Day, allow me to wish all of you out there who have acted as surrogate-mothers to the many kittens, puppies, cats and dogs (and other animals) whom you have nursed as preciously as your own children. Many of the little ones would not have survived out there in the cold had you not intervened and taken them under your care. A Tribute to Mothers They love their own...like precious gems. That's my mother with me (the one with very little hair) on my first birthday.&nb...

8th May 2011, by AnimalCare

This is a request from Cheong Sook Kuan :Contacts:  Sun Shung - 012-2355151 / Sook Kuan - 012-2528098You see i was bringing my 3 dogs to the park near my house in Kepong when a dog followed us home. He's quite nice looking; doesn't look like a stray dog at all so perhaps he is lost. Since then he thinks my house is his territory and had been standing guard outside my house for the past 3 days. He barks at people who comes near the house and sometimes even chase vehicles. The neighbors ...
