Heartfelt Thanks To Our Vets (Bushytail's Surgery)
11th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I learnt from the vet's assistant yesterday that the pyometra in Bushytail was only detected late Thursday evening when pus flowed out from Bushytail's vulva.  In fact, it sort of "flooded" the tray of the cage.  That indicated that it was really bad.  Very bad.But the vets had just forcefed Bushytail that afternoon because the plan (and that was our decision, too) was to opt for the less risky of the two options, ie. between immediate surgery for the necrotising mastiti...

A Third Panel Vet For Subang Jaya Folks!
11th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

As promised, I have now enlisted the help of a third panel vet to do spay-neuter for our One-Street CNRM programme for Subang Jaya and USJ. However, the rates are a wee bit higher and just like our other vets, there is also no boarding.  We need to understand that the strays that we bring in may carry diseases and there are other boarded pets in the clinic, so we should not insist on boarding because it could lead to an outbreak of disease at the clinic.  Most clinics do not have ...

The Prognosis Of Bushytail's Condition
11th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I stopped by twice yesterday, to check on Bushytail's condition. The prognosis remains grave even though Bushytail is hanging on.  The senior vet explained to me just what had happened and how badly infected Bushytail's mammary glands were (and still are).  From the diagram drawn, it appeared that the skin on her entire underside would have had to be removed if all the infection was to be removed.  This, of course, was not possible, so they could only remove the worst of the infect...

The BFM 89.9 Experience
10th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

In one word....it was real FUN!Chwi Lynn and Meera Sivajothy were so hospitable, they made me feel right at home.  Being inside the studio was such an enjoyable experience, too. However, time passed SO fast while the interview was on.  Of course it would, especially if you had so much more to say! What I liked most of all was their punctuality and adherence to time.  Well, of course they would have to - it's radio!  It's just so nice to do things when time is given due respect....

Bushytail's Kittens - Another Passes Away
10th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Poor little kittens.  After the passing of the weakest one, another developed diarrhoea this morning.  I sought advice from the vet and she agreed that we could try giving glucose water for 2 feeds and slowly reintroduce milk.Sudhamma did that, but the poor thing passed away by afternoon.Again, we hope the kitten is in a better existence now.  From five, it's down the three now....

Bushytail's Surgery Has Been Successful!
10th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Bushytail's surgery went unexpectedly well today.  There was no messy bleeding and her PCV was good enough, so blood transfusion was not even necessary.  She was also very stable throughout the entire surgery.  That, is a very good sign.  However, the vets could not remove all of the infected parts as the infection of the mammary glands had spread down to the other glands as well.  To remove all would mean there would not be enough skin to pull together for suture.&...

Bushytail's Youngest Kitten Passed Away Last Night
10th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

The poor thing did not make it.  That's the one who had fallen into the deep drain earlier and also the smallest in size.  Sudhamma texted me just now to say he (or she) had passed away last night.  May he (she) be in a better existence now.  Please send positive thoughts.  Many thanks to Bro Sze Too for volunteering to help Sudhamma give the little one a proper burial.  Bushytail will be going in for surgery this morning.  Please wish her well, and her fo...

Please Pray For Bushytail
10th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

This morning, Bushytail will be going in for surgery to remove her two infected mammary glands (mastitis) and the infected uterus (pyometra).  Initially, the surgery for the mastitis was supposed to be delayed until next week when she is (hopefully) stronger after a course of antibiotics and IV-drips, but upon discovery of the pyometra yesterday evening, the surgery simply cannot be delayed anymore.  Bushytail is in a very critical state as the infections have resulted in her bein...

The Sunny Kittens' Hair-Styling Experience
9th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Uncle Bobby's been long overdue for a haircut.  So, my husband finally got down to doing it this afternoon.  Rex was extremely fascinated and stood totally transfixed by the whole thing. It sure looks like a lot of fun, he thinks... I guess he was hoping he'd get a haircut too.... He didn't get one, so he walked back into the room, quite dejected...(Oh, he's just been frontlined in the morning, hence, the punk look!) Er no...he wasn't dejected...he brought reinforce...

Emergency Surgery Tomorrow For Bushytail (pyometra & Mastitis)
9th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

The vet has just called me.  They have found a more serious and life-threatening condition in Bushytail - she has pyometra (infection of the uterus).  The mammary gland infection is already life-threatening.  Now, coupled with the pyometra, surgery cannot be postponed.  Bushytail's chances of survival is 50%.  The vet, in her professional opinion, has given us the option of having Bushytail put down, but we cannot do that.  We have never done that.  So, the sur...

Mother-Cat With Infected Mammary Glands (mastitis)
9th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Two days ago, Sudhamma Chua had texted me about a mother-cat who had disappeared leaving her five newborns behind.  I told Sudhamma what to do for the newborns, based on whatever I knew - syringe-feed Pets Own Milk, keep them warm and stimulate the privates to make them pee and poop.  Yesterday, Sudhamma said the mother-cat had come back, but did not seem to be interested in feeding her kittens at all.  This morning, again, Sudhamma texted me and said the mother-cat looked sick, s...

The Money Is Yours But The Resources Belong To The Society
9th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I received this forwarded email and although it is not about animals per se, I feel it's useful to share it with all of you.THE MONEY IS YOURS BUT THE RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY A good lesson to remember . . Germany is a highly industrialized country. It produces top brands like Benz, BMW, Siemens, etc. The nuclear reactor pump is made in a small town in this country. In such a country, many will think its people lead a luxurious life. At least that was my impression before my study trip.Wh...

"We're Eating Kibbles Now..."
9th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Photo updates:We're getting tired of milk, can we have some of Uncle Bobby's food?  Bunny normally cleans up left-overs, but he walks away and lets Fox and Rex sniff at the food.  No, don't worry, they did not eat any of the chicken.  I took it away.   Fox looks at the ball, but doesn't quite know what it's for.  Ah...still too young.Rex is the first to eat dry kibbles, and here he is, claiming it for himself.Rex loves this space behind the washing machine.&nbs...

Klinik Kembiri
9th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

There has been an increase in the number of rescuers asking for spay-neuter help ever since the Star Two article was published and we see this as a good thing as it shows that the awareness and the willingness to do something for the animals is there.  Some of you may be located too far from our panel vets in Subang Jaya and Klang, so we strongly encourage you to use Klinik Kembiri as their charges are the most affordable (definitely lower than our vets!).Pls see this: http://www.spca....

Amber Discharged, And Is Much, Much Better
8th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to see Amber and to settle her bill this evening.  As usual, she's oh-so-happy, active and absolutely excited.  I had to ask her to sit so that I could take her photo, and she obediently sat!Take me out, take me out!I wanna play!We did take her out...to get her vaccinated.  All the vet assistants love her, and she loves them too.  Amber loves everyone!  Even the vet says she's so happy. Look...no more TVT!  Compare this normal-looking vulva to the infect...

The Sunny Kittens' Upstairs Tour
8th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare

Yesterday, the Sunny Kittens went for a tour....upstairs!It was afternoon, and nap-time, so after exploring the room, they decided to take a nap...in Tiger's basket.  An typical afternoon nap for them usually lasts a few hours, but this time, it was interrupted as someone had other plans... I thought I too could take a nap while they nap, but.... Honeybear stirs in his sleep, and gets up... He stretches and plays by himself. I'm bored...I want to find something more inte...
