Mas' Cats Spayed-Neutered 30th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Mas and her friends are cat rescuers and they practise CNRM actively in PJ even though Mas is not of very good health. Recently, Mas sent two cats to be spayed-neutered at their vet in PJ under our subsidy programme (since it's not our panel vets). Oten and Comel after the procedure. We are happy to subsidise the cost of spay-neuter if you use your own vets, but it would be based on our rates, and it's only for strays and rescued animals.

Woman Saves Baby Coyote From Highway 30th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Mrs Wong sent this:Today, The Great Animal Rescue Chase is proud to share a story from an everyday hero in Washington who came across what she thought was a puppy in the road. When it turned out to be a coyote, she began a determined crusade to get professional help. She was turned away by police who advised her to let it die. Fear not, there is a happy ending to this story, but it reminds us of how far we have yet to go in making compassion toward wildlife a be...

Spiders Are Useful Too 30th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
A sharing by Belinda Mosiun:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-137 0181/Millions-spiders-crawled-trees-creepy-effect- Pakistan-floods.htmlWe can see from this news how spiders can help save people's lives by reducing the risk of malaria. I think this information is especially useful to Malaysians because I believe many of us see spiders as pests and we like to destroy their webs and get rid of them from our houses. I hope this news will change people's minds.I know that many peo...

A Loving Send-Off For A Beloved Pet, Chewie 30th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal. -Irish Saying-It has only been a matter of 3-4 days that I have had the opportunity of knowing Chewie, yet she has left such an indelible mark in my heart even though I am not her primary caregiver. As I sat here last night, writing a memoriam for Chewie, knowing that is perhaps that would be only thing I could do for her memory that is befitting of a hero, besides sending her thoughts of loving-kindness...

11pm - Very Sad And Shocking News (Chewie's Gone) 29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
I just received a call from Lina. Chewie's gone.Lina and friends had gone out and had just got back. They had left Chewie to sleep in the cage before going out. When they got back, Chewie was already gone. It appeared that she could have vomited blood.I was shocked to receive the news, but perhaps it wasn't totally unexpected because we all know anything can happen, especially with a young kitten like Chewie. The surgery had been so high-risk and difficult, yet she ...

The Cat With Faucitis 29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Faucitis? That's the first time I hear of this medical jargon. It means infection of the fauces (inside of the mouth). That's what Amy Thum's rescued mama-cat has. Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/0 6/poor-mama-cat-with-boils-inside-her.htmlPoor thing...it must be VERY painful. The treatment is to go under sedation, extract the bad teeth (already decayed) and inject steroids into the multiple 5-cent size boils inside the mouth. There are multiple causes for faucitis - it...

Another Previously-Spayed Female Cat 29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Siew Choo lives in USJ6 and she has been feeding this cat (photo below, pretty, yah?). She heard about our programme from the temple and thought she should bring the cat (her family calls her "Belle") for spaying. Isn't she pretty?Well, guess what? The same old story. Belle has probably been spayed already. Our vet informed me sometime this morning that he saw a prominent incision line at the side of the abdomen. So I went to the clinic after work and coincide...

But the bad news is that she is still very weak and has no appetite.Lina and friends force-fed this morning and gave her her medicine. CP went in the afternoon to do healing and said Chewie was just lying very still. Our vet is worried too. Lina will bring Chewie in for a check-up later this evening.

Winnie Pup's Adoption! 29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
From Koo:Dear Dr Chan,Winnie the pup has been adopted after a month of fostering. After being born into an uncertain future and only knowing life under a container, she and her family were finally rescued after many appeals from Azimah their guardian angel. But with lots of loving foster care, she ...

From Gingershells To Popsicles (the 5 Kittens) 29th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Nandhini offered to foster the 5 kittens that were dumped in front of my gate in a styrofoam box 2 weeks ago. I've been in contact with Nandhini daily on their progress after they were discharged from the vet's. Initially, they all had diarrhoea (really watery type) and the flu. After the vet declared them to be "well enough", he advised that they should be taken out of the clinic environment as soon as possible. So, Nandhini brought them home. This would be Nandhin...

Wii's Secret Is Out!! 28th Jun 2011, by AnimalCare
Wii was one of my rescued cats. More than a year ago, my alphas (Cow and Bunny) started chasing poor Wii out into the alley, and Wii's constant mewing there incurred the wrath of my back neighbour who threatened Wii in very frightening ways. Long story cut short, I asked Roselin if Wii could live with her (for his own safety from my wrathful neighbour) and Roselin took Wii in. Ever since living with Roselin, Wii has not been able to get along with any of Roselin's cats. R...

From Lina:We gave Chewbacca more water to drink, but she is still very weak. Angie, Zax, Doris and Hebi (Christine) have been here since we left. Now, just "sayang"ing her while she sleeps on the hot-pack.It's so heart-warming to know that five young people are so keen on looking after one little stray kitten. As our vet said, "this kitten is so lucky!"Yes, life is not about how long we live, but how much love we can give and if we're lucky, how much we are privileged to receiv...
