And...the Trap Works Again! (Marina's 1st TNRM On Her Street)
6th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to collect our cat-trap from the vet's yesterday.  It was left there after Blackie's capture and subsequent neutering surgery.  Well, what do you know, Blackie had destroyed the trap!  Both springs had been torn out completely.  The vet helped me repair it but I don't think it works very well now.  I thought we could do without the springs as it still worked (we tested it) but the vet said it could be hazardous because the closure would not be tight enough and the...

The Cow Story Continues...amidst Bribery, Scratches And Battle Scars
6th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Everyone (else) wanted Cow's Royal Canin S/O this morning.  I guess they thought it was a new treat and yes, the vet told me it's tasty.  Cow ate just a bit; he didn't seem to care much for it.  But he appears "normal" to me.  He even urinated in the kitchen sink for me to see.  Yup, the urine is absolutely clear.  A little yellowish, which I was told, is good.  Cats' urine should be yellowish as it's supposed to be concentrated and it should smell too.  T...

Naughty Cow Mau!
6th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Cow seemed to be feeling much better after the trip to the vet's (and the vet gave the first dose of medication too).  He ate his S.O. though he did not quite like it, but the best news is (and I hope this IS good news), he sprayed his urine for me to see (!) and it's been clear the last three times this evening.  No trace of blood at all.  And, when Ming-Yi and I tried to give him his medication, gosh....he fought tooth and nail, I mean, claw.  Literally, that is.  It w...

Rescued Dog In Ara Damansara... Is It Yours?
5th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This is from Eileen Ng (019-320 3875):This sweet dog was rescued by two young girls outside my house in Ara Damansara yesterday evening. The girls saw her at first and fed her some biscuits. Then the dog came over and hid under my car which was parked outside. She was afraid of me but ok with the girls. So I had to guide the girls on how to stroke her and make her comfortable before quietly putting the leash over the dog. Bravo to the girls, they followed my instruction to the tee and we got her...

Poor Cow....he Has FLUTD
5th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This afternoon, I saw bloody urine stains on the wall. Cow and Bunny are my two alphas and they are the only ones who spray (mark territory) in the house. Before that, I already suspected something was wrong with Cow because he jumped onto the table to drink Ming-Yi's water. A lot of it too. That got me really worried as it is indicative of kidney problems. But I was dead tired after work and thought I'd take a nap before taking him to the vet. When I woke up, Cow sprayed on the wall rig...

Brother, A Lucky Dog!
5th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Koo wrote this last night and I'd like to share it with all of you:Dear Dr Chan,In May 2011, I came across a Rina Chew's posting of an adoption appeal for a stray dog which hangs out at a playground in Section 19.  The dog is possibly a Jack Russell mix, medium-sized and male. Rina was previously renting a room there and she was attracted to this stray dog, named Brother, who was extremely friendly to everybody.  Apparently, Brother has once ushered puppie...

Updates On Lilac
4th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Lilac is FINALLY walking on her own now.  Her broken leg was repaired by IM-pin insertion, but there was an adhesion between the leg and the hip, so a second surgery had to be conducted to "separate" the adhesion.  Even then, she wasn't keen to use the leg.Today, she is finally walking on her own.  At long last!We are not sure of the ownership of Lilac, but we were approached by a rescuer to help with funds or the owner would have had her euthanised.  It was literally a matte...

Newly-Rescued Puppy For Adoption
4th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Shenaaz Khan called this evening saying she had received news that a young puppy was being kept in a basket (or box) at a restaurant with hardly any space to move about.  The restaurant people probably wanted to keep the puppy safe from harm.  Shenaaz wanted to take the puppy and rehome it, so she asked if I knew of any fosterer.  Well, I don't, but we could ask MDDB if they have any space in their halfway house.  I called Wani who said she would be able to take the puppy (pr...

Updates On Amber And Gobby (Heng Ngoh's TVT Dog)
4th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Krystal brought Amber for another TVT jab last Saturday.  The tumour had started bleeding a little two weeks ago, so another few jabs are probably needed again.  Other than that, Amber is as fine as ever, as usual.Heng Ngoh also brought her TVT dog for the 2nd jab today.  She has called this dog "Gobby" and will adopt her.  Gobby is a street dog who frequents Heng Ngoh's restaurant.  Heng Ngoh is also planning to bring Gobby's puppy for treatment (skin problem).  Go...

Blackie Goes Back To His Colony
4th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Blackie is the terrorist in CP's neighbourhood and has been reigning supreme over Manja, Didi and Mimi, the three cats already spayed-neutered under our sponsorship and are being managed by CP and her family.  Each time Blackie comes into CP's compound (yes, he is THAT brave), it is always Manja (the oldest female) who will be protecting the home territory.  Then, there would be the raising of fur and war-cries....you know, the works.  Blackie was finally captured by using our cat...

Something Beautiful...in Honour Of Chewie
4th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Even though Chewie has left us now, I continue to be amazed and deeply touched whenever I think about how much love Hebi, Lina, Angie, Doris and Zax have showered on little Chewie.  They displayed a level of responsibility, love and care far beyond their years.  They also displayed a camaraderie amongst themselves that leave us all hoping that we too have such wonderful friends in life.  As I spoke with our vet on the morning right after Chewie's burial, he too was absolutely deva...

A Talk At Lumbini Garden
3rd Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This morning, I gave a talk at Lumbini Garden in Puchong.  This was my first time being invited to this centre and I must say, it is a beautiful place with very warm and friendly people.  I shared with the audience what our One-Street CNRM is all about, especially when we now have two panel vets in Puchong.  One of the vets in a certain clinic in Puchong had heard about our work and she offered their clinic to be on our panel.  I am now in the process of getting a representat...
