The Purest Of Charity
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

I've been quite fascinated with the things Bavani can do and have done ever since I found out this petite girl had been a volunteer zoo-keeper at Zoo Negara and she dares to feed snakes!  What courage!Today, as we were manning the booth together, we talked about lots of things.I told Bavani I had learnt from a very devout Hindu friend many years ago that helping animals, for Hindus, is the best way to redeem one's unwholesome karma.  He never told me why, though.  Bavani said it's...

The Cow Story....the Novelty Is Wearing Out....
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

My friend, CP, came over this evening to get a tshirt and we got talking, so Cow's medication was delayed till quite late.  Throughout our chat, Cow was nearby, trying to attract attention, I think.  CP wanted to do some healing on Cow, but he hissed and scratched.  Yup, the Cow is back to being the Cow again....So, medication was delayed till quite late. Now, Cow was nowhere to be found.  I went out and called him.  He finally came...I don't know where from.  I want...

Updates On Karuna
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/07/old- dog-badly-injured.htmlI have spoken to the vet, but the line was really bad, so this is what I've got.The X-Rays looked good because it did not reveal any major damage.  The fact that Karuna is eating is, of course, a very good sign.  However, her lower quarter is extremely weak, and this cannot be diagnosed yet.  She did stand up, though.  The vet thinks there could still be some sort of minor paralysis, but there is no cert...

Rescued Dog In Need Of Fosterer Or Adopter...or Is It Your Dog?
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Ken Huber rescued this dog yesterday, from a grocery store.  Apparently, the workers were ill-treating this dog and Ken stepped in. The dog looks like a lost or abandoned pet.  It was found in a grocery store in Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas. With the help of MDDB, Ken has sent the dog to their vet for an evaluation and possible treatment, if any.Ken has requested that I put the dog up for adoption.  However, I think the dog could be lost.  Here are the photos:

Old Dog, Badly Injured
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Yesterday, someone from the local temple called me.  Apparently, a dog had been attacked and bitten by a pack of wild dogs at the playground near the temple and was very badly injured.  I was at work all day but I told the person to bring in the dog to our panel vet immediately.  By evening, the person still had not sent the dog, and our vet had waited.  I found out today that they could not catch the dog....until this afternoon.  The vet called me this evening as I was ...

Malaysians In Motion, The Event
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

We started at 9.45am this morning.... My students, Yang Yik and Bavani were a big help. Here we are... Irwin, who very much inspired me to write "Make Time While the Sun Shines" (especially the part about...ahem, punctuality) came by to give moral support.  He collected some of my Time books to give to his friends (yes, those who are always late for class!)Luckily I had a Size 40 in my car for Yang Yik.  Good fit.  There was no tshirt sales today, but everybody liked this...

Malaysians In Motion
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Today is going to be a long day, and hopefully, it'll be a productive and rewarding one.  One of my former students has organised this event called "Malaysians in Motion" where the theme is.....And it's also about standing up for what you believe in even if you are standing alone.  That's their catch-phrase.    AnimalCare has been invited to open a booth.  No money transactions, so no fund-raising and no tshirts.  Just promoting the awareness that even if you are st...

How To Give A COW A Pill (written With Some Confidence Now)
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Day 3 Round 1 goes to yours truly!!Looks like the carrier-trick is working, and instead of Cow developing resistance to the trick (which we thought he would), he seems to understand that's how things are going to be and he's relenting/cooperating....OR, I'm just pushing my luck and dreaming?Never mind.....it's moments that matter.  If it doesn't work, we have Plans B, C and D in store. So, this morning, it was breakfast as usual first.  After everyone had eaten, I first took out the pil...

Appeal For Help To Catch Stray Dogs In North Port, Klang
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

As you all probably know, Klang has a stray dog problem, especially in the many factory areas.  I'm told there could be hundreds of stray dogs roaming in each of these areas, some being fed by the staff and workers of the respective factories, if they are lucky.  Some are subject to accidents from heavy vehicles and machinery.  It's really sad.  If anyone were to complain, the council would capture-and-kill.  The only feasible way to help these dogs would be to help them...

The Cutie Pie Cannot Be Found...sobs
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This is a follow-up to : http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/06/abandon ed-dog-for-adoption-real-cutie.htmlOn 24th June, a rescuer had alerted us to this cute little puppy being tied up at the guardhouse (without shelter from rain and shine) in an apartment area in Puchong.  A resident of the apartment had taken on the responsibility of rehoming the dog as no one came forward to claim it.  We blogged for adopters, and one of our readers responded.  The guards were informed that ...

The Section 19 Rescued Dog - What A Wonderful Tale Of Perseverance!
7th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This is beautiful account is from Koo.  Koo had earlier written to Wani and me, asking if we could help sponsor the medical treatment of a dog, rescued from Section 19.  We both replied we'd certainly help.  Then....Dear Dr Chan,I have some positive news about the Section 19 stray but most friendly dog.Firstly, BOTH the parents and one of the 2 daughters (the one back for holidays from studies in Australia) came (the other daughter has went to Singapore again) at our 6pm appo...

Pregnant Cat, Caught And Now, Released
6th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

CP has been encouraging her neighbours to practise CNRM.  One such neighbour is Mrs Wong.  With the aid of one of my cages, Mrs Wong managed to trap this elusive female cat last night, so CP helped bring the cat to our panel vet this morning.  She didn't want to go in, but the fried fish was just too irresistible....Eat first, figure out how to escape later....\ On the way to the vet's, in the car....She avoided the vet like crazy...Upon checking, the cat is pregnant. &n...

Round Two....(with The Foresight Of "How To Give A Cat A Pill")
6th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

So, it was getting late and the clinic would be closed by 7pm.  Time for Cow's evening dose of medication.  We attempted the usual method but as expected, it failed miserably.  I was about to give up and drive him to the vet's when Ming-Yi said we'd put him in the carrier and feed him while he is inside.  Good idea....And if that fails, we'd put the carrier in the car (with Cow inside) and try.And if THAT fails, we'd drive the car out (with the carrier containing Cow) and whi...

Rozita sent photos of Rex and Honeybear the other day, so here's one of Fox today.  Looks like they are all so active, the only time Rozita can take their photos is when they have gone kaput after playing all day!Gosh, that's really "gone kaput" alright!Hey Fox!!And there's great news from Rozita too:The Sunnies have graduated to University Litter Sand Box. I can allow them to roam freely now indoor (definitely) without worrying that they would poo n pee evrywhere. If we see either one just...

Make Time While The Sun Shines - My 6th Book!
6th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This is so exciting....my sixth book is finally published and ready for distribution! A more "feminine" cover...that's because this time (for the first time, too), it's designed by a woman - Erin Lee, thank you! That's Tiger looking at the clock. But no, it's NOT (another) book about animals this time.  I think I have written enough about animals for now.  This is about.....(well, read the e-book and find out!). But of course, it has a chapter about animals, and Cleo...
