The Line Of Uncertainty 19th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/06/anot her-previously-spayed-female-cat.htmlSiew Choo brought this white cat, Belle, to be spayed in June, but our vet was very sure there was a telltale incision line on her side, which indicates that she had already been spayed. Coincidentally, Belle also disappeared from Siew Choo's back alley for a whole week about a month before that. All this pointed to the fact that Belle had probably been spayed during the time she "disappeared". &n...

Visiting Meiji Again, With Dogfood Supply 18th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
We had already ordered the dogfood and was awaiting confirmation of the availability of the lorry. The confirmation only came last night at 11pm. Amy Tham and I had planned to go together this time, so we started off at 9.30am this morning to Amy Lim's shop to wait for the lorry. I would drive and Amy would navigate since I'm completely hopeless with directions. I don't even know how to get to Genting Highlands from Subang Jaya, so....that's why I needed Amy! Here's the food.Unf...

Mulan, Penny and Lilo are three of the five kittens (the Popsicles) that were left in front of my gate in a stryrofoam box many weeks ago. Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/07/race -against-timekittens-adopted.htmlCindy and Stuart are the two kittens we were frantically trying to find an adopter for two days ago because the rescuer said he had no choice but to send them to the shelter. Kittens this young would probably be put down. Thank goodness Devi Narayanan came to the rescue and offered, not just to foster, but to adopt and give them a permanent home. Here's an update from Devi:Took Cindy & Stuar...

Winnie And Dad - New Rescuers In The Making!! 18th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
I wrote this about a week ago: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/07/appe al-for-help-to-catch-stray-dogs-in.html. It was about Winnie Low and her father, who feeds the stray dogs at his workplace in North Port, appealing for rescuers to help capture the dogs to be spayed-neutered. Since no one volunteered, Winnie and her father decided to try to do it themselves. So, Winnie and her mum came over yesterday to borrow two of our large foldable cages. This morning, W...

A Wonderful Carnival At SS19/1 17th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
We starting setting up our booth at 7am this morning. The moment I arrived, the children and residents of the neighbourhood were right there to offer to carry all our stuff from my car. The committee members of the SS19/1 Residents' Association were very helpful too. One cannot help but feel the warm hospitality and friendly welcome extended by everyone who was there. "This is going to be a good day", I thought to myself. Soon, CP arrived, followed by Mary and Amy. ...

Remembering Dodo, Mayo Clinic's Resident-Cat 17th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
This is a short but very sweet tribute to Dodo, Mayo Clinic's resident-cat who passed away a few days ago. It's from Cheryl Poo:Sigh Kah Yein, I just read your blog post about Dodo. I'm feeling sad as I've always liked the ginger guy. He was one of the most gracious cats I've ever seen. When I brought Cookie in to be spayed, I let her out to wander around and Dodo followed her into the first room. He was so cute... he was eyeing Cookie and I was a little worried that this way bigger cat mi...

An S.O.S. Trip To The Hospital For Bunny 17th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
After Indy came home and all the hustle and bustle in feeding him medicine and trying to deworm the rest, we noticed the Bunny was unusually quiet. It was after dinner that we felt his body and it felt really warm. He was also sleeping and not looking too good. The previous two days, he had been making a lot of mischief. But he is definitely unwell now....Oh dear...tomorrow is Sunday and Bunny's regular vet is closed. Why do pets usually choose to fall sick on Satur...

Young Adult Male Dog For Adoption 16th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Here's another request:This is the picture of the young dog my selfish and irresponsible neighbour threw out. She said, "he's naughty" and she "can't accept" it. He is around 7 months old - he's a puppy, of course he would be energetic and high spirited!! He's now in my garden, too intimidated by my 4 to go into the house. They seem determined to menace him because, well, they can! He's good with cats and small dogs (my 4 are smaller than him!!) and sweet natured and ver...

Kitten For Adoption (Jessy Lian's) 16th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Here we go again....I know, it's endless, but that's the reality, and if we give up and say, "there are so many of them, how many can we help", then everybody will stop helping and the animals will suffer. So, here goes:Dear Dr.Chan,I would like you to help me post the photo of this kitten on your blog seeking for fosterer/adopoter. Apparently, my neighbour - the Aunty have no choice but to give the kitten away because her husband (the MAN OF THE HOUSE) DOES NOT LIKE CAT & ask Aunty to take t...

Indy Goes To The Vet's 16th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
I've always been concerned that Indy drinks a wee bit too much water. He only drinks from the running tap and no where else. He would call us (yes, he CALLS us) to go into the kitchen and turn on the tap for him. Then, he licks the running tap water. And it has always seemed to be me that he licks a bit too long. Cats are not supposed to drink a lot of water. So, I thought I should bring him for a check-up, especially after just visiting the kidney failure cat...

Karuna's Old Age Problems 16th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Yesterday the vet called me in the evening. Apparently, one of Karuna's lesions had ruptured and needed either dressing with antiseptic, or surgery under sedation. The vet was concerned about putting Karuna under sedation because of her age. This afternoon, there was another swelling on the side of her body. The vet decided not to use sedation and just try lancing to drain off the swelling. Karuna, surprisingly, did not put up a fuss at all. She allowed the vets to d...

End-Stage Kidney Failure Cat 16th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
This afternoon, Mary and I spent some time accompanying Mary's colleague at the clinic. The colleague's cat is suffering from end-stage kidney failure. There seems to be little that allopathic medicine can do for a cat at this stage of kidney failure except to put him on drips and to force-feed.There are numerous causes of kidney failure. Too many to list down. But some of the signs would be excessive intake of water and weight loss. This cat used to be obese, but b...

A Race Against Time....kittens Adopted! 16th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare
Punitha, Nandhini and I must have spent a fortune on smses and phonecalls this morning, racing against time to find a fosterer or adopter for the two kittens (the ones I named "Creamie and Crackers"). A very long story cut short, Devi Narayanan responded and said she would adopt the kittens. Bless her kind heart!More phonecalls to make the connections, and finally....The kittens are now safe with Devi.Devi's text message to me:Wei Kien couple sent over the kittens around 1pm. E...
