Fosterer Needed For Injured Cat
28th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Cathy Thong has just trapped and rescued a badly beaten-up cat. Cathy lives down my road and apparently there are 2 (intact) male cats who terrorised her area and attack other cats.  The cat is wounded and there are blood stains on his face and head. But the consolation is that he has a good appetite.  Cathy just came to borrow a cage and she will send the cat to our panel vet tomorrow for a check-up. We will sponsor the required treatment.  Meanwhile, Cathy is urgently lookin...

Rescued Dog For Adoption (Elaine Chan)
28th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

From Elaine Chan (echankm@hotmail.com):Just to let you know that I had taken in a stray dog last night.  He has been seen  wondering around Taman Cheras Permata the last two weeks.  When I took PhowPhow and Toto for walk last week, he was following us around and after that he disappeared.  He had a broken collar on then.   Last evening,  when I went for walk, he was again wondering around the street. I called him and he followed me...

Here's updates from Szetoo Weiwen on the 4 kittens that she rescued and have been fostering:Just to update you on the kittens, they're doing fine and two of them are drinking more and very active. The other two males have their moods, sometimes they drink very little, sometimes they drink more. The black one had watery poop for the first time this morning, not sure if this is normal. Will see if this happens again later today or tomorrow. My partner and I have named the kittens Jet, Bruce, Donni...

Winnie Low Sends Her Rescues For Spay-Neuter
28th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Winnie Low first contacted me to seek help to rescue a few dogs in North Port. Winnie suspects these may be abandoned dogs, and the piece of land where they reside in is totally barren. Winnie's father has been feeding them bread and leftovers. No one responded to her request for help, so Winnie thought she should just attempt to catch them herself, and she succeeded on Sunday. She caught two of the friendlier ones - a young mother-dog (now called Angel) and her young male puppy (now called ...

Human Cruelty Knows No Bounds (bear Bile)
28th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

My friend sent me this and he told me it would make my heart bleed. I didn't dare read it, so he told me about it today, and yes, my heart bled just hearing the story. This is the story:Apparently, in China, bears are captured and tied up in cages where they cannot move and an incision is made on their bodies where bile is sucked out to make some Chinese medicine. It is excruciatingly painful for the bears and they endure this pain for YEARS. Not days or months, but YEARS.One day a baby bear was ...

Another Young Rescuer In The Making
28th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Last week, Karuna Tan called me. She is 17 years old and has read all my books. Karuna found a litter of 2 kittens in the drainage of her school. As it was raining and the mother-cat was nowhere to be found, Karuna brought the kittens home.  This is Karuna's first time nursing baby kittens. She fed them milk using a syringe, massaged their tummies and wiped their mouths after each feed (based on what she has read from Pawprints).  Being her first time, she did not know what to feed the...

Mooi Yeng picked up this puppy on 4th July. It appeared that the puppy may have been abandoned.Mooi Yeng sent the puppy for a check-up and the puppy was diagnosed with a skin problem and was also very thin.  It's been more than three weeks now, and the puppy has been vaccinated, dewormed and given a clean bill of health.  Mooi Yeng's children have named him "Mocha" and he is playful, friendly and obedient.  Since Mooi Yeng already has her own dogs, she would like to put this ...

This account is from Koo. Goldie is the first dog rescued from the Rawang Container Operation. Goldie's daughter, Winnie, has already been adopted.Dear Dr Chan, Thank you for arranging for the vet appointment for Goldie's 2nd vaccination. I would like to share a few lessons from the vet that I didn't know as a newbie fosterer:1) After every vaccination, the dog should not be bathed for a week because it might adversely affect the vaccine which needs the time to be fullyeffective.2) It ...

And There Are Those Who Suffer....
26th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Amy Tham called me about this poor mother-cat who has given birth at least 3 times but each time, her kittens would all die.  This is precisely what we sometimes do not see, especially those who claim that street animals are "okay" and that if you just leave them alone, they'll know how to survive.  No, some of them don't.  One of our rescues, Joanie, who is featured in my book "See you at Rainbow Bridge" was found with obstructed labour. One fetus was stuck at her vulva, causing ...

This Schnauzer Was Dumped (now, For Adoption)
26th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to the vet's today, to meet up with a mange cat case (but the cat got away before it was brought in) and chanced upon meeting Alice Ong instead.  Alice had just rescued this pedigree Schnauzer. She said she saw a man (we presume it's the owner or maybe also a rescuer (the kind that picks up and dumps to others)?) drive up to the bus stop near the local shelter, open his car door and dump this doggie out. Sigh...no wonder I often see dead bodies of dogs on this road. People would...

It's "Zandy" For This Gutsy And Lucky Little Bluepoint Kitten!
26th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

My previous post said there will be no more posts or updates on Stuart the kitten, who had been through so many challenges in the last one week.  Yes, no more Stuart....Because Punitha and I have renamed this gutsy little kitten after the great doctor and Nobel Prize Laureate, Alexander Fleming... He's called "Zandy" now. Why this Scottish doctor? Because apparently, Alexander Fleming too had a bad start in his childhood and nearly died, but he pulled through and went on to become a great d...
