The Search For Citta
31st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

The vet called me today, from out of town. Citta had run off as another vet was taking her for a walk this morning.I rushed to the clinic, got a friend to put that posting you see before this, and called Koo for help. Koo was at MidValley, but he said he would come.  At the clinic, the vet who took her for a walk told me Citta had wriggled out of her collar and bolted. She trailed Citta several times around the block; Citta was just running round and round the block. But at one point, Citta...

Feeding Bobby...
31st Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Getting Bobby to eat has been a difficult task for many months now. He, as with some old people, has become extremely choosy with food. And we also don't know if some sort of senility has set in (Bobby will turn 15 this October), or he is just plain strong-willed as he had always been all his life! Or, maybe, too much association with the cats have rubbed off some cat characteristics in him, ie. "you stand your ground, don't have to pander to what 'em humans want you to do, we cats don't do that...

About Lilac
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Lilac was an injured pet, brought in by her owner to the vet's. Her leg was broken and the owner wanted her euthanised. Two rescuers intercepted and called me to ask if we could sponsor Lilac's surgery. An extremely long and complicated story cut short, for the sake of saving Lilac's life, I agreed to sponsor but someone would have to take responsibility for Lilac after the surgery. One of the rescuers agreed to foster Lilac before returning her to the owner.     The owner's ...

Karuna On Homeground Again
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

I was facilitating a course at the temple today, so I went to see Karuna after the talk. She was so happy to see me! She didn't look so sad anymore now.Let's go for a walk, Karuna. This is the playground which used to be her home. She seemed very at home and again, was attracted to the cars on that main road. I had to pull her back again. I do wonder if she wants to cross that main road to go home...? But that road is next to impossible to cross.  After the walk around the playground, I...

'Tis The Season Of The Bluepoints!!
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Fa la la la laLa la la la....Rozita sent this eat-your-heart-out photo of the bluepoints she is looking after.First there were four, remember?  Then, one more came to the back of her house and wanted to join the bluepoint fraternity in her house. After all, he figures he qualifies by all counts. So, he's joined the fray now and though he is the biggest, he allows himself to be bullied by the rest! And I guess Honeybear would be the highest-in-command in this bluepoint platoon?'Tis bluepoint s...

How About A Meatless Saturday Today? Or Just A Meatless Lunch?
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

From the Humane Society International:http://www.humanesociety.org/issues/ eating/meatfree-guide-2011/ Eating meat-free meals is more popular than ever. Oprah Winfrey recently devoted an entire episode to encouraging people to eat more meat-free meals. And major companies -- like food service giant Sodexo and Mexican restaurant chain Moe’s -- are encouraging people to participate in Meatless Monday as an easy way to celebrate the difference we can each make.See how The Humane Society of t...

Dr Veeranoot's Two Kittens, For Adoption
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

If you remember, Dr Veeranoot had to send four of Kwanjit's six kittens to the cat sanctuary in Segambut because her neighbour complained. Kwanjit is the mother-cat the doctor rescued from Section 17 while the cat was still pregnant.  Dr Veeranoot provided her (Kwanjit) with a safe place (no, a safe haven!) to give birth and nurse her kittens. The four kittens have since been adopted from the Segambut sanctuary, and all by one person. This was truly heaven-sent as the four kittens were all b...

Jessy Lian's Rescue Story
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

From Jessy:Dear Dr.Chan,I'm going to share with you my another rescue mission. Here goes:I found a brown male puppy wandering near my neighbourhood on Tuesday. This cute little puppy is so so friendly, playful, happy & active. He lie down on his side & wanted me to pat/scratch his tummy. I then notice that his right hind leg is straight (cannot bend). He walks/run by dragging his hind leg, he doesn't seem to be in pain. I was afraid that his leg might be broken a long time ago. And I sus...

Maslinda's Two Cats Spayed-Neuter
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Maslinda and her group of friends are cat rescuers in PJ and we have been subsidising the cost of spay-neuter for their rescues for some time now.  What touches me deeply is that Maslinda is suffering from cancer, yet it does not deter her from helping the stray cats. She does not allow the disease to quell her spirit and determination; and she her health does not permit, she does a little less, but when she can, she goes all out to help the cats.  We are proud to be able to offer some...

Children Forced To Stomp On Defenceless Animals In The Philippines
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

This is news from PETA Asia:PETA Asia has just blown the lid off a horrifying and heartbreaking case in the Philippines that involves cruelty to two of the most vulnerable members of any society—children and animals. You will need a strong stomach to read on, but please know that for the first time in history, something is being done about what you are about to read: For the last year, PETA's affiliate in Asia has been working to expose and stop those behind a series of pornographic snuff...

Why? Is This Necessary??
30th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

Someone sent me this link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/ article-2019871/First-glow-dark-cat--Now-meet-Tago n-worlds-glowing-dog.html#ixzz1TRq80urDGosh, why must humans do such things? Animals are not meant to be experimented with. They are meant to be helped and respected AS THEY ARE.  One wonders how many cats and dogs have been sacrificed in order to "successfully" produce these glow-in-the-dark animals.I hear there are also tea-cup pets now, ie. dogs and cats that there s...

Karuna Back At The Temple
29th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

I was worried that Karuna might not have food to eat back at the temple today since she went back after noon (the temple devotees bring food for dana for the monastics, which is only for lunch), so I called the temple caretaker, Harsha, to ask if there was any food for Karuna.  Harsha, bless him, said he would go out to buy food for Karuna later. Not wanting to take chances, I decided I might as well buy an 18kg bag of dry kibbles for Karuna as stand-by food, just in case they migh...

Baby Paloh's Case (a Baby Elephant Needs OUR Help)
29th Jul 2011, by AnimalCare

UPDATES: Baby Paloh has been freed!!  But please continue to source out any form of animal cruelty and send the news to me - I'll post it here and we can collectively do something constructive about it.  For one who doesn't even have the time to read the newspapers or listen to the news, I am totally guilty of now knowing what is going on in the world around me except whatever I have direct contact with (unless it's a big enough event like Bersih!). So, I would really appreciate all of...
