Castrated Male Caught And Spared, Another Caught Instead
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Cathy Thong has been trying to catch two (intact) males to be castrated since these two have been terrorising the area around her house. She managed to catch Mr White and he is already neutered now. The other one is a Mr Black. Last night, she successfully trapped a jet black cat, suspected to be Mr Black. But this morning, it turned out to be the wrong Mr Black as this black cat is a neutered male. Cathy writes:So last night's capture turned out a castrated male.  He is definitely ...

Five Newborns Dumped In Front Of Office
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

This morning, Punitha found five newborn kittens dumped in a box in front of her office. Arrangements were made quickly, and they are now with Rozita Halim (adopter of the Sunnies). Rozita has given 3 of her bluepoints (whom she is fostering) to Punitha. It's like a foster-exchange programme that works well. From Rozita:Punitha followed me home bringing 5 newborn kitts (one of them with placenta still intact). Such tiny ones. We r surrounded by cruel humans n also by angels. Kudos to Punitha for s...

4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Hooray!!Updates from Winnie:Good day, Kah Yein. Visited Brownie. His WBC has gone up to 4.3. The vet said should monitor for another day or 2. Should be at least 5-6 then only will be considered back to normal healthy state. I can't wait to take him home to see mummy Angel. Angel was upset for few days, only today she looks happy & a little active as you know she has been a very passive dog. She loves milk.Hey brave little Brownie! You'll be going home soon!!On the first two days of Brownie's...

Sorry, Boss-San, I'm Late Because....
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Amanda sent this heart-warming story:The three-month-old kitten pictured above caused delays for 15 Tokyo trains after climbing underneath a train car. Passengers heard the kitten meowing, and the train made an emergency stop at Kamata station. The kitten was found and pulled to safety, but not before delaying the commutes of about 23,000 people.Oh, little kittens, you masters of mischief! We are so glad to hear he survived his dangerous adventure, though!

Please Pray For Kenya, Injured Cat Battling For Her Life
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Reena Kong contacted me yesterday. She asked if I knew of any vet who could do surgery of the jaw. I immediately recommended our vet in Subang Jaya who had successfully repaired a broken jaw on Clariss (accident victim) last year.  Reena's cat, Kenya, was involved in an accident (though, not sure how the injury happened as there were no eye witnesses), and the vet said the injury on her face is so extensive, he suggested euthanasia. Reena said no, she would go all the way for Kenya even if ...

Morning Cheers For Karuna!
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I have just spoken to my mum. She says Karuna is very well-behaved and did not bark last night (that's a relief, because previously, some neighbours had complained about Sean and Tara's barking). She is so well-behaved, she just slept by the door all night and in the morning, was very happy to see my mum and accompanied her while she (my mum) did her taiqi. The only thing is that Karuna refused to eat the dry food last night (that's because we pampered her with wetfood!). But this morning, ...

People, People....
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

It's 12.45am now, and I have just finished reading, replying and responding to all the emails in my mailbox. This is a daily affair, besides visiting the animals at the vet's, etc. I overheard someone say that there are people badmouthing AnimalCare at other forums, saying that Kah Yein only talks but never does anything.  If I just talk and don't do anything, I wonder how we have managed to help more than a thousand animals in two years and where on earth our funds come from?  Bu...

A Side Story....
4th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I was at the vet's yesterday and was told a most interesting story.  Apparently, Citta is quite an escape artist! The vet trainees found she had ESCAPED from her cage yesterday morning and was running around the ward (which is enclosed). How did she escape for her cage?  Nobody knows. She must have kangaroo-jumped out of her cage.So the vet trainees quickly reported the case to the vet's assistant and when the vet assistant went to the back to check....guess what?Citta had freed her mot...

Doby's Skin Problem
3rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Doby is one of our Klang rescues who was initially staying in Lotus Life, Bentong, in 2009. When Meiji visited the place, she found that Doby was kept in a cage and did not look good at all.So Meiji brought Doby back to her sanctuary in Raub and since then, Doby has been with Meiji and the 127 other dogs.Doby has a very stubborn skin problem and even after repeated visits to our panel vet, the skin problem persisted. It isn't life-threatening, though. This is Doby, see the white spots on his face...

Mr White, Caught And Neutered
3rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Last night, Cathy, who lives down my road, sat by the drain with the cat-trap (borrowed from us) in her ongoing attempt to catch the two (intact) male cats on that part of her road. These two fellows have been terrorising the other cats in that colony.Mr White, as he is known, had actually walked into the trap. Unfortunately, our trap had been used too many times and the spring had got loose, so Mr White managed to squeeze out of the trap and escaped!Sigh...this means BOTH our traps cannot be us...

Karuna Goes To Her New Home!
3rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I spoke with my mother this morning, if there was any possibility that she could foster or even adopt Karuna. My mum had helped foster Tara and Sean last year - both had distemper and were our rescues from the Klang Dog Pound. Tara and Sean have since been adopted into good homes.I was worried ever since the temple told me that the wild dog who attacked and bit Karuna had gone up to the temple to look for Karuna. Karuna is tied at the back of the kitchen and wouldn't be able to defend herself sh...

Meeting Up With The Scientist Himself (RetroMAD1)
3rd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Ever since Brownie started on the experimental drug, RetroMAD1, I had been communicating by sms and phone with the biologist who co-developed the drug. Mr Huan invited me to visit his lab and meet up so that he could explain to me how the drug works. So, I went to his lab today. Mr Huan spent a long time explaining everything about the drug and his research. In short, this is what I've gathered, from my layperson's understanding, using very simple layperson language. Any inaccuracies is enti...

No Black Gold....just Yellow!
2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/07/anim alcares-black-gold-tshirt-new.htmlOn 21st July, I publicised that we would be producing a Black Gold tshirt (a black version of our Gold (first) tshirt) because my college is holding a charity drive in September and the committee has requested for a Black Gold. However, the response (from the blog readers) to this Black Gold has been very poor. We need a minimum order of 100 for it, and we don't think we can sell it off.   So we h...

Karuna Has A Surprise Visitor
2nd Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Adelyn Yap wrote to me offering to help look in on Karuna as well so that it won't be so taxing on any one person to keep checking up on her. So, Adelyn went a-visiting this evening, after work:Hi Dr. Chan,I went to temple ard 7pm just now. Did some praying and then went to the back n saw Karuna. I got her a rawhide bone and a toy. I wanted to take her for a walk but there is no one around for me to ask for permission. Perhaps it's dinner time. I changed her water (from the sink i assume) a...
