DonDon, RayRay And Mimi 10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Here are some pictures I took two days ago when I visited DonDon and friends at the clinic. DonDon was one of the Popsicles dumped at my front gate many weeks ago. Alex, the clinic assistant adopted DonDon and made him the new clinic cat, in place of Dodo (who passed away of kidney failure at the age of 12).I think you can see from the photographs what a cheeky little thing DonDon is. His mentor is RayRay. Playing peek-a-boo with RayRay. He's been trying very hard to win over Mim...

Two Sad Cases 10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Today seems to be a day of sad news.First, a rescuer contacted me yesterday about the case of a dog she was asked to rehome from a well-to-do family. The family had purchased the dog, but were not willing to treat the dog for a skin problem. Before this rescuer could find a home for the dog, she heard that the family had sent the dog to the shelter because they decided they did not want the dog anymore. She asked if I could help check with the vet (I only know one vet there) if there is such a d...

I just heard the Mimi, Mayo's resident cat has been put on drips. Don't have any other details.Dodo, Mimi's brother, just passed away last month of sudden kidney failure. They are the same age.Mimi, photo taken just two days ago, when I went to the clinic. Please pray for Mimi to be well and free from suffering.P.S. It is really sad that we seem to be hearing quite a few cases of kidney failure. I suppose it happens as a cat ages or for those who have been born as strays. When I visited the other...

Very healthy and was even called fat by the vet! He is now ...

Indy At The Vet's 10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
I have been rather concerned about Indy's excessive water-drinking. I've mentioned this to the vets before, so I thought to be safe, I'll better bring him in for a check-up this morning.Since young, Indy has developed this habit of drinking running water from the tap. We suspect it was Vixey who taught him that he must always drink fresh water. Indy was brought up by Vixey.Excessive water-drinking in normally indicative of kidney problems (which can become a real nightmare if it becomes chronic)...

Tommy Passes Away 10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, we received the sad news that Tommy has passed away.Tommy was diagnosed with total kidney failure more than a month ago. The vets only gave him 3 days more to live at that time, but he pulled through and even regained his appetite and gained weight. But he deteriorated again and had to be put on dialysis twice a day.Norsidah, his owner, did everything possible for Tommy and gave him lots of love and care. We provided Tommy with Echinacea and Noni Enzyme as supplements, and he was also ...

Wolverine And X-Friends At The Vet's (Jessy Lian's Rescues) 10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Jessy Lian wrote to me about her latest rescues who needed medical treatment. I suggested that she brought them to the nearest vet that is convenient for her and we will subsidise the treatment. From Jessy:Updates on Jaguar & it’s 3 siblings:-Yesterday afternoon I bought all 4 kittens to the nearest vet. The vet said all of them have flu. Their gender are still too young (1+ month old) to tell. I told the vet that some of them (or at least 1 of them) have diarrhoea, cos I found a few ...

Cleo The Poodle Passes Away 10th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Cassandra sent me a video of Cleo yesterday afternoon. She looked alright, and had been given four blood transfusions. At around 7.45pm, Jessie (Cassandra's sister) texted me to say Cleo had passed away about an hour ago. According to Jessie, when Cassandra visited in the afternoon she had given her blessings to Cleo to let go if she is too tired of fighting on. Animals know when to let go.Sometimes our animal companions are so loyal that they will fight on just to make us happy. I've seen ...

Lolo's Post-Mortem Results 9th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Lolo's blood test (sent immediately after admission) and her subsequent post-mortem has revealed that the cause of death was a severe (possibly prolonged) bacterial infection which had resulted in organ failure. Lolo's heart, spleen and lung was covered with a whitish bacterial growth. Her earlier blood test had already shown liver failure but the kidney results were alright. However, the post-mortem reveals that the kidneys were also dilated, which indicates that the kidneys were probably ...

Mama With Gum Disease 9th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Mama is a female cat who was treated for faucitis a few weeks back. She recovered but lately, had trouble eating again. Gum disease is usually viral in nature. The vet checked the inside of Mama's mouth - yes, the ulcers are back again, but not as "cauliflower"-like as before, that means, it's just beginning again. We had to test Mama for FIV and FeLV. If it's positive, we can start her on the RetroMAD1. I just went down to the lab today to get a small amount for our Sporo cat, Pu...

Updates - She Came Back To Eat! 9th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/08/she- prefers-to-be-streeet-kitten-after.htmlWe think the smart little kitten came back yesterday for food because Aimy's daughter, Natasha, saw a streak of grey running from the cage to the bushes, and the food is all finished.Aimy says there is no other tabby around her area, so we hope it was the smart little kitten. Aimy will keep putting food and water and Herbie (I just named her after the ever-resilient survivor-car, Herbie, the Love Bug, ...

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/08/stre et-kittennow-safe-and-sound.htmlAimy texted me yesterday morning to say that the street kitten had escaped from the cage, despite the cage door being reinforced with tubings. How she got out remains a mystery, but cats are known to be extremely resourceful in doing and getting whatever they want. Until now, the kitten has not been found.I informed Prem yesterday, and she said the kitten is an extremely smart one and will always have h...

Puppy Fosterer Needed (VERY URGENT) 8th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/08/visi ting-tvt-dog-at-local-shelter.htmlI have just found out today, from our vets, that the 5 puppies should not be kept together with the mum-dog who has TVT as TVT spreads through contact. Hence, I have informed the shelter about it and the puppies need to be isolated from the mother, given a bath and hand-fed. The shelter needs a fosterer VERY urgently to save these puppies. The mother-dog can then be treated with chemotherapy jabs. Please hel...

Rescued Dog For Adoption 8th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
From Stephanie Chung:Dear Dr Chan We have saved a young female dog from the streets recently, spayed and vaccinated her. She is currently receiving further treatment at a vet centre in Kepong.
